This document describes the release notes of the OMNIKEY/HID 5x21/5x25/63x1 Driver

I. General
**********
Supported Operating Systems:

This driver supports the operating systems
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition
Windows Vista x64 Edition
Windows 7 x64 Edition
Windows Server 2008 x64 Edition
Windows Server 2008 R2
on Intel EM64T and AMD 64 bit systems.
The installation of the driver is done by Plug and Play under all operating systems.
II. New Installation:
*********************
Plug the OMNIKEY/HID 5x21/5x25/63x1 into a free USB port.
A 'New Hardware Found' dialog box will appear and you will be asked to select the directory where the driver files are stored.
The OMNIKEY Diagnostic Tool is not part of this installation package. It is available as a separate installation file.
III. Updating:

Step By Step Instructions To Update The Driver:

The newest driver versions are always available under http://www.hidglobal.com/omnikey.
The files on this web page are selfextracting archives, which are extracted by doubleclicking the downloaded .exe file. Please keep the directory structure for extraction.
Step 1:
-------
Download the drivers from http://www.hidglobal.com/omnikey.
Change to the directory where you have stored the downloaded file.
Doubleclick on the downloaded .exe file.
When you are asked, where to unpack the files, choose a directory to expand the files to (e. g. c:\drivers\OMNIKEY\).
Step 2:
-------
Windows XP / Server 2003:
-------------------------
Click on 'Start' --> 'Control Panel', doubleclick on the 'System'- icon, the 'System Properties' window appears. Click on the 'Hardware' Tab-Sheet and then click on the 'Device Manager' button.
Click on the '+'-sign on the left side of the Smart Card Readers-entry to display all installed smart card readers.
Then click on the device entry with the right mouse button and click on the 'Update Driver...' entry in the appearing context menue.
The 'Hardware Update Wizard' window appears. AT the Windows Update search selection select 'No, not this time' and klick 'Next'. select 'Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)' and click 'Next' to continue.
Select 'Don't search, I will choose the driver to install' and click 'Next'.
Click on the 'Have Disk...' button.
In the 'Install From Disk' window click on the 'Browse' button and select the '*.inf' file in the directory where you have unpacked the downloaded file and click 'Open'.
Verify that the correct path to the file is shown in the 'Copy manufacturer's files from:' window and click 'OK'. Click 'Next'.
After Windows has copied the driver files a message appears that the software for the listed device has been installed. Click on the 'Finish' button and close all the windows which are not needed anymore.
Windows Vista:
--------------
Click on 'Start' --> 'Control Panel', doubleclick on the 'Device Manager' icon.
If you are prompted to enter your Administrator password in the 'User Account Control' window do this, if not select 'Continue'.
Click on the '+'-sign on the left side of the Smart Card Readers-entry to display all installed smart card readers.
Then click on the device entry with the right mouse button and click on the 'Update Driver Software...' entry in the appearing context menue.
The 'Hardware Update Wizard' window appears, select 'Browse my computer for driver software'.
Select 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'. Click on the 'Have Disk...' button.
In the 'Install From Disk' window click on the 'Browse' button and select the '*.inf' file in the directory where you have unpacked the downloaded file and click 'Open'.
Verify that the correct path to the file is shown in the 'Copy manufacturer's files from:' window and click 'OK'. Click 'Next'.
After Windows has copied the driver files a message appears that the software for the listed device has been installed. Click on the 'Close' button and close all the windows which are not needed anymore.
Now the device is ready for use, because under Windows Vista it is not necessary to reboot the computer.
IV. FCC Information:
********************
OMNIKEY 5121, 5321 and 5125 are certified according to the FCC standard. The user must not modify reader because otherwise the FCC certification is not valid any longer.

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
