RS-232C Communication Program for HIOKI 3169-20/21

Confirm the following before the use of this software.

* Introduction
This "RS-232C Communication Program for HIOKI 3169-20/21" is distributed as 
freeware and as such, HIOKI E.E. CORPORATION takes no responsibility for damage 
or loss of data during the running of the program.  
Furthermore, we bear no responsibility for the introduction of viruses or other adverse 
conditions.  Please understand that we cannot answer any questions regarding the 
software once it has been distributed.  Thank you for your cooperation.

   The following files are created when extracting the RS3169M.LZH
         README.TXT ... This file
         SETUP.EXE
         RS3169m.CAB
         SETUP.LST

  Double click SETUP.EXE on explorer, etc., then, the installer is automatically started.
  After starting installer, follow the instructions of installer.


<< Uninstall >>

  Uninstall from "Add and delete application" in Control Panel.


<< Connection >>

  Before starting this RS-232C communication program for 3169-20/21, connect the 
  PC and 3169-20/21.
  There are 2 methods in below to connect.

  1. Direct connection
     Connect the 3169-20/21 directly to the RS-232C port of a PC.
     Use the 9612 RS-232C Cable (for PC connection).

  2. Connection via modem
     Provide 2 modes to connect one each to the 3169-20/21 and PC.
     The initial setting shall be made beforehand for the modem connected to the 
     3169-20/21.
     The initial setting of modem is made on a PC. Please refer to "Initial Setting of 
     Modem" for detailed 
     procedures.
     When the initial setting is completed, remove the modem from a PC and connect 
     it to the 3169-20/21 via the 9721 RS-232C Connection Cable (for printer).
     Then, connect another modem to the RS-232C port of a PC.


<< Setting of the 3169-20/21 >>

  To communicate with the 3169-20/21, the RS-232C setting on the 3169-20/21 is 
  required.
  This RS-232C setting is common for both direct connection and connection via 
  modem.
  Set as in below on the setting screen of the 3169-20/21 (SET UP 4/5 SYSTEM).
      BAUD RATE:  9600bps
      TERMINATOR:  CR+LF
      FLOW CONTROL:  NONE
  After setting the above, return the 3169-20/21 to the measurement mode.


<< Initial Setting of Modem >>

  Before connecting a modem to the 3169-20/21, the initial setting of modem is 
  necessary.

  The following is the minimum required settings.
     Auto receiving setting (S0=1)
     No echo back (E0)
     Disregard ER signal (&D0)
     No result code (Q1)
     Save setting (&W)

  A PC shall be used to create these settings.
  The following explains the setting procedures by using the HyperTerminal.
  Command input on (11) shall be relevant to the modem used.
  Setting parameters and commands may differ by the modem type, so that please
  refer to the instruction manual of modem for details. 

  ( 1) Connect the modem to a PC and turn on the power.
  ( 2) Start the HyperTerminal.
  ( 3) When starting the HyperTerminal, "Connection Description" window appears.
       Input the name to the "Name" position of window.
       Press "OK" after typing the name.
  ( 4) When pressing "OK", "Connect To" window appears.
       Select "COM1" or "COM2" for "Connect using".
       (Select the port connected to modem.)
       Press "OK" when "Connection Port" setting is completed.
  ( 5) Then, "COM1 Properties" or "COM2 Properties" window appears.
       Select "9600" for "Bits/s" and press "OK".
  ( 6) Select "Property" in "File" menu. Then, "Modem Setting Properties" window
       appears. Click "Setting" tab to display the setting page.
  ( 7) Press "ASCII Setup" button in this setting page.
  ( 8) Click "Send line ends with line feeds" and check to the check box in
       "ASCII Setting" window. Then, press "OK".
  ( 9) Press "OK" when the screen returns to "Modem Setting Properties".
  (10) Input the following command on the HyperTerminal screen.
          AT&F[ENTER]
  (11) When you receive "OK", input the modem initializing command.
          ATQ1E0&D0S0=1&W[ENTER]
  (12) Finish the HyperTerminal and turn off the power of modem. Then, remove
        a cable.


<< How to Use Communication Program >>

1. Connection Screen
  When you start the RS-232C Communication Program for the 3169-20/21, 
  the connection screen appears first.
  ( 1) Select the port connected to the 3169-20/21 or modem.
  ( 2) Set the baud rate same to the 3169-20/21 in direct connection. Any rate
        is acceptable for connection via modem.
  ( 3) Select either one of "Direct" or "Modem" for the radio button of connection 
        method.
  ( 4) If the connection via modem is used, input the telephone number to be connected to.
        The initial coding of "AT" is usually acceptable, but there are some modems require
        the other initializing. Refer to the instruction manual of modem in this case.
  ( 5) Press "Connect" button. The connection is completed when the button changes to 
        "Disconnect".
        If it remains as "Connect", the communication is not properly made with the 
        3169-20/21.
        Please confirm the cable, setting on the 3169-20/21 and setting of program.
  ( 6) When the connection is completed, "Measurement Screen" and "Download" buttons
        are enabled.

2. Measurement Screen
  This screen appears when "Measurement Screen" button is pressed in connection screen.
  Receiving the measurement value, confirming the setting and changing setting are possible 
  in this screen.
   * "Single" button
       Receive the measurement value once and display it when pressing this button.
   * "Repeat" button
       When pressing this button, you can receive the measurement value at every repeat
       interval and the value is displayed. While this function is activated, the button changes
       to "Stop". Stop receiving data by pressing "Stop" button.
       Note the data can be not received if the specified repeat interval is too short.
   * Repeat interval
       Specify the repeat interval for "Repeat" function.
   * "Start/Stop" button
       Used to start and stop the integration measurement of the 3169-20/21.
       The current integration status are displayed in above of this button as the reference.
   * "File" menu
       When clicking "File", "LOGGING" menu appears.
       By clicking this, the check blinks.
       Execute "Single" or "Repeat" data acquisition while the check is lighting, so that the 
       file "data.log" is created in the directory of this communication program is installed.
       The received data is transferred to this file.
   * "Settings" menu
       When clicking "Settings", "3169Settings" menu appears.
       By clicking this, the setting dialog for the 3169-20/21 is opened.
       You can send or receive the settings of the 3169-20/21 in this dialog. (This dialog 
       cannot be opened while "Repeat" data acquisition is enabled.)
       While integration measurement, receiving settings is possible, but an error occurs if
       you try to send the settings.

3. Download screen
  This screen appears when pressing "Download" button in the connection screen.
  Downloading the data in a PC card of the 3169-20/21 is possible in this screen.
   * "Receive file names" button
       The list of data files in a PC card of the 3169-20/21 can be received.
       The received file names are displayed in "File name list".
   * "Download" button
       This is the button to download the file displayed in "File name list".
       Select the file name displayed by clicking and press this button to start download.
   * "Storage directory"
       The downloaded file is saved in a directory specified here.
   * "Delete" button
       Delete the file specified in "File name list" from a PC card.
   * "Download the additions only"
       When you download by checking this check box, download files except the same name 
       files in the specified directory.
       If there is no same name file or this box is not checked, the download is started from 
       top.
       This function is effective when the download is interrupted by any reason, or when the 
       3169-20/21 is in the integration and new data file is added.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
