Introduction 2. Background 2.1 The Problem 2.2 The PatchPnP Utility 3. Installation and Operation 3.1 Installation 3.2 Operation 1. Introduction ============================== The PatchPnP Utility resolves an issue found with Panasonic DP-6000/7000 PCL printer driver on upgrading from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. 2. Background ============================== The utility is used when upgrading from Windows 2000 to Windows XP on condition that Panasonic DP-6000/7000 PCL printer driver is previously installed on Windows 2000. 2.1 The Problem ============================== If Panasonic DP-6000/7000 PCL printer driver is previously installed on Windows 2000, A PCL printer driver install wizard window is incorrectly displayed after Windows XP is installed in the environment and starts. However, whether this installation is proceeded or not, the PCL driver runs correctly on Windows XP. This issue will not affect the cases as follows: 1. The case of cleaning the hard disk and installing Windows XP. 2. The case of not installing a PCL printer driver on Windows 2000. 3. The case of installing PCL drivers via Plug-and-Play. 2.2 The PatchPnP Utility ============================== @The utility should be used after Windows XP is installed. The PatchPnP Utility displays affected device entries and allows the user the option of "retouching" them all with a single mouse-click. The utility does NOT remove any drivers, files, or anything from the registry. 3. Installation and Operation ============================== 3.1 Installation ============================== The utility is supplied in a self-extracting archive INSTPNP.EXE. (1) Run this archive, and click on the OK button when a disclaimer document is displayed. (2) Input the path to the location where the utility is installed when a prompt for that is displayed. (3) A confirmatory message box should appear after successful extraction of the files. 3.2 Operation ============================== (1) Run PatchPnP.exe, and it displays the dialog which contains a listbox showing any printer entries that need to be "patched". (2) Push the button marked 'Patch' to mark the relevant registry entries. (3) After a short pause, all of the entries should disappear and the 'Patch' button will be disabled. (4) Press 'Exit' to finish. (5) Reboot the system to check that there are no more false Plug- and-Play messages. Microsoft is the registered trademark of Microsoft Incorporated.
