3. Features
3.1 International Character Set
The Stowaway Portable keyboard supports the full international
character set of your handheld. Most international characters are
entered using a combination of the Alt key and another alpha-numeric
character.
3.2 Menu Commands Most menu commands can be accessed through
keyboard shortcuts. Press Cmd button while pressing the menu's
shortcut character, e.g. Cmd-N for New memo.
3.3 Layout Page There are mulitple keyboard layouts included with
the driver.
To choose a different layout:
1) Run the keyboard application.
2) Select Layout from the drop down list in upper right corner.
3) Select a different layout from the drop down list next to the
Layout: label.
Other options on this page: Tab, Manage layouts. You can use the Tab
selection to change the usage of the Tab and Fn-Tab keys.
Manage Layouts allows the installation of additional keyboard layout
databases.
3.4 On-Screen Pointer A new page has been added to the Stowaway
Software that allows you to enable the on-screen pointer and set the
pointer preferences. The on-screen pointer can be used to press
on-screen buttons, open drop down menus, move in edit fields, and make
selections from the menus. Pointer navigation is performed by holding
down the Alt key and any one of the four arrow keys. Use Alt-Enter key
to put the pointer "down" on the screen at the current location.
To activate the screen pointer:
1) Run the Keyboard application.
2) Select Pointer from the drop down list in upper right corner.
3) Check the box next to Enable Screen Pointer
The on-screen pointer will be visible while the Alt key is held
down. The pointer acceleration speed and maximum speed can be
changed by moving the corresponding slider bars.
There are three screen pointer sizes you can choose from by
accessing the drop down list located next to the Pointer Size label.
4. Known Issues with the Stowaway Software
1. Detatching the keyboard from the device while a key is held down
leaves key repeating. Reattaching the keyboard (or resetting the device)
will stop the key from repeating.
2. Deleting the driver when other hacks are enabled may cause a
Fatal Error.
3. Fn-Cmd doesn't work well when intermixing Graffiti and the
Keyboard. Also, Graffiti shortcuts cannot be completed by the
keyboard.
4. Ctrl-Cmd-W does not work.
5. Cmd-Arrow, Ctrl-Shift-Arrow, and Shift-Arrow do not work well in
all cases. Their behavior depends on the application that is
running.
6. Ctrl-Alt-Shift-<Letter> is not supported.
7. The scroll bar is not updated when pressing the up and down
arrow keys.
8. Find can't be stopped with Ctrl-Cmd-S.
9. Onscreen buttons cannot be selected with the keyboard while a
Pop-Up menu is open.
10. Cmd-# keys cannot be mapped to Find.
11. Key clicks don't keep up with fast typing
12. The "Cmd" key does not make the "command" prompt appear on the
screen.
13. The arrow keys cannot be used in menu items or used to select
items from most pop-up lists.
14. A Fatal Error will be generated if the 1.0 keyboard driver is
beamed over the top of version 1.5.
15. By default, Tab does not insert a tab in any application. This
function is put on Fn-Tab. The function of Tab is configurable
through the Keyboard application's Layout page.
16. When you wake up the device using the keyboard, the key that you
used might be repeated. We suggest using a 'modifier' key (Shift,
Fn, Alt, Cmd, or Ctrl) to wake up the device.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 Handheld computer compatibility: The Think Outside Stowaway
software works with Palm, Handspring, Sony, HandEra, TRGPro, and
Kyocera 7135 handheld devices.
5.2 Some buttons cannot be pressed with Ctrl-Cmd-letter: The
Ctrl-Cmd-letter sequence works when the first character of a button
is different from all other buttons. If two buttons have the same
first character, then try another character within the button that
is not part of any of the other buttons, e.g. Ctrl-Cmd-t for a
Restore button.
5.3 A Fatal Error occurs when the driver is deleted: The Palm OS
does not directly support system traps. Since the driver installs
system traps, it may come into conflict with other software that
also installs traps. If a Fatal Error does occur, reset your
handheld by inserting a paperclip into the reset hole on the back of
your handheld. The handheld should recover with no data loss.
5.4 Software Incompatibility List - The following software is known
to experience problems when the Stowaway software is installed:
Jot - problems exist with older versions upgrade to version 1.21 or
above.
SmartDoc - problems exist with older versions upgrade to version 2.0
or higher.
Some over / under clocking applications - Will make it so the driver
can't communicate with the keyboard. NOTE: The newer versions of
Afterburner have fixed this problem.
Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
