###################################################################### README.txt for SSDUpgrade.exe ###################################################################### SSDUpgrade.exe is a software application that upgrades the micro-code of SSD drives made by STEC Inc. for the Dell Inspiron 910 netbook computer. SSDUpgrade.exe and its associated file UMPC.sys are intended to run under Windows XP environment. Its use is not recommended under other operating systems. To use SSDUpgrade.exe, please follow the directions below: 1) Intall the upgrade utility using "SSD Upgrade Install.exe" program program will prompt you for a folder to install the utility 2) Start SSDUpgrade.exe by double-clicking on its icon. SSDUpgrade.exe will stop with a warning message if: - UMPC.sys is not found in the same directory - no upgradable drives are found in the system - no upgradable micro-code can be found 3) Please read the entire legal disclaimer, the "Upgrade" button will not be enabled until the entire disclaimer is read. By installing or using this program you agree to the legal disclaimer displayed in the upgrade utility 4) Please follow the direction in the disclaimer and backup data in the SSD drive. 5) When ready, click on the "Upgrade" button to start the upgrade process. 6) The upgrade process should complete within a few seconds. If the upgrade process was successful, then please follow the prompt and restart the computer. If the upgrade process failed, then please follow the prompt and contact customer service. Whether or not the upgrade process is successful, SSDUpgrade.exe will create a log file, called "netbook-ssd-micro-code-upgrade.log" in the same directory as SSDUpgrade.exe. Customer service may ask you to provide this file, which contains information regarding why the upgrade process failed. If successfully completed, upgrading the micro-code of SSD drive using SSDUpgrade.exe should not erase data on the SSD drive. Never the less, because of the risk of failure during the upgrade process, you should back-up all data on the SSD drive before performing the upgrade. ###################################################################### Regarding UMPC.sys ###################################################################### UMPC.sys is a filter driver program that when activated, disables all other program’s access to the SSD drive, and only allows the firmware update program access to the drive. This driver is loaded and activated right before the update process starts, and is de- activated and unloaded right after the update process finishes. This program is needed because the micro-code upgrade process can not be interrupted by any other process.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
