INFORMATION & INSTRUCTIONS

The AEC95Clk.exe program was created to allow a computer running the
Microsoft Windows 95 operating system to keep its internal clock locked
to an external time code (LTC or VITC) reference.  The Adrienne Electronics
Corporation time code reader boards (expansion cards for ISA bus computers)
continuously read the time code into the computer's memory.
The AEC95Clk.exe program then compares the external reference time with
the internal time, and makes changes to the computer's internal clock
as needed.  Any of the PC-LTC/VITC/VLTC boards that read LTC and/or VITC
can be used with this program.  The PC-LTC/IOR LTC Reader board is the
least expensive model, and works fine for this application.

This program has been developed as a Windows 95 service that has the ability
to start running whenever the operating system is loaded into the computer.
This will allow the computer to always be "time matched" to an external
time code signal reference.  The computer's time will be constantly kept
to within +/- 150milliseconds (max error) of the reference.  The max error
could be kept smaller but the service would end up taking more of the
processor's time to do its job.  This error amounts to no more than 5
time code frames at any given moment.

To use this program and set it up as a Windows 95 service, do the following:

1) Run the AEC95Set.exe program and follow the instructions to register
   the WRTdev0.vxd file into the registry.

2) Create a new directory having a name such as "AECtime".  Copy the
   AEC95Clk.exe and AEC_95TC.dll files into the new directory.

3) Open an MS-DOS window and change to the "AECtime" directory.
   Load/install the service by entering the following command line:
                      " AEC95Clk " <enter>
   This will register the service into the device registry and set it up
   to start automatically each time the computer is turned on (it will
   run in the background like a DOS "TSR" program).  You will need to
   reboot the computer in order for the above changes to take place.

4) You can always stop the service by opening an MS-DOS window,
   changing to the "AECtime" directory, then entering the following:
                      " AEC95Clk -stop " <enter>
   This will stop the program the next time that the time code board 
   reads a time code signal having "00" frames data.  The program may
   also be stopped by pressing the CTRL+C or CTRL+BREAK key combinations
   before the MS-DOS window disappears (after about 5 seconds).

5) If you ever need to remove this service from the computer, change to
   the "AECtime" directory, then enter the following command line at the
   MS-DOS window command prompt:
                      " AEC95Clk -unload " <enter>
   This will cause the program to stop as if the "-stop" argument were used.
   This will also delete this file's automatic starting entry from the
   registry, which then prevents the program from starting at boot-up.


OPERATIONAL NOTES

A) Because Windows 95 does not support the Windows NT Service Control
   subsystem, the AEC95Clk.exe program required some changes relative
   to the NT version of this program.  We have implemented the following
   features to provide "similar" operation.

B) Only one instance of the AEC95Clk.exe program may be running at a time,
   except to execute command lines with the "-stop" and "-unload" options.
   If any other command line is executed beyond the first instance of the
   program, the second instance will not be loaded, and will beep quickly
   five times, with about 150milliseconds between beeps.  This allows
   a way to detect if this "invisible" program is already running.

C) If there is a problem setting up the program to "keep running even
   after the user logs off", there will be four beeps about 
   350milliseconds apart.  You would normally hear this at the time you
   see the MS-DOS window during the first 5 seconds after booting up
   the computer.  The program will keep running if this happens, but
   will most likely "stop" when the user logs off.  Try running tests
   after you first install the program to see if this problem occurs.
   If this does occur, give us a call to discuss a possible "fix".

D) If any other error occurs while the program is starting, it will
   beep once and exit quickly.

E) When the program is running normally and a command line is executed
   with the "-stop" or "-unload" option, the program will beep eight
   times in a short-long-short-long-... sequence.
