Please read this file carefully before using the product. ƒTable of Contents„ [1] About Firmware Updates [2] Operating Environment and Other Requirements [3] Update Cautions [4] Update Procedure [1] About Firmware Updates Update allows the GX 3000/ GX3050N/ GX 5050N/Network Interface Board Type GX2 to receive the latest firmware. Optional for GX3000. [2]Operating Environment and Other Requirements (a)Operating Environment If the printer is connected to other computers via the following methods, successful updates are guaranteed. 1. Crossover cable (to one other computer only) 2. Peer-to-peer, using a hub (b)Supported Operating Systems 1. Microsoft Windows 98 SE 2. Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition 3. Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional* 4. Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition / Professional Edition* 5. Microsoft Windows Server 2003* If you are using 3, 4, or 5 (above), you must login as an administrator or as a user with administrator privileges. (c)Using the Update Tools' "Save To" Function under Windows 9x If you are using 1 or 2 (above) and the "Save To" path contains Japanese characters, the "Save To" operation might fail. If this happens, save your data to a destination whose path does not contain any Japanese characters (for example: C:\). This problem does not occur on Windows NT-based operating systems (3, 4, or 5 above). [3]Before starting the update (a)Make sure the printer is turned on. (b)Be sure to connect the printer "directly" to the PC with a Network cable. The use of a USB Hub or like device may prevent proper update operation. (c)This firmware updater is for Network Interface Board Type GX2 only. Make sure your network interface board is supported by this updater. (d)Before starting the firmware update, please close all open applications, windows, and or dialog boxes. This includes: the printer properties dialog box, status monitor, and SmartDeviceMonitor status monitor. (e)Finish all print jobs before starting the update. (f)Do not turn off the printer, unplug the Network cable during the update. Do not start or print from other applications including the printer driver, the GX status monitor and the SmartDeviceMonitor status monitor. (g)If you turned off the printer or unplugged the Network cable during the update, start the update again. (h)Check the "System standby" and "Hibernate" settings of "Power Options" ("Power Management" for Windows98) before you start the update. Set "Never" for the "System standby" setting and deselect "Enable hibernate support". (Under Windows XP, set "Never" for "System standby" and "System hibernates" settings.) (i)Do not have the system standby or hibernate mode enabled during the update. Redundant statement? Covered in (d)B (k)Ensure that the gExtended Features Check Boxh is unchecked, in the SmartDeviceMonitor application. This setting is located within the "Tools- Extended Features Settings" dialog box. (l)If Personal Firewall is installed in your computer, the update may fail. So nullify the effects of Personal Firewall, and perform the update. [4]Update Procedure Double-click [ricifgx2.exe] to start the update. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen. For further information about the procedure, see <<About Firmware Updates.pdf>> Note: If the printer was unplugged, or USB cable/ Network cable was unplugged during the update process, the printer will be started in one of the following modes, when it is powered on: (1)Normal Case Perform the update executable file(ricifgx2.exe) before starting the update. Then follow the instruction displayed in the screen. Please refer to <<About Firmware Updates.pdf>> for detail. *There is no need to perform the update in below two cases. ECurrent version of network interface board in your computer is the same as latest version displayed in "Select a network board" dialog. @@@EThe object version displayed in "Select a network board" dialog is older than current version of network interface board in your computer. @ (2)If the Printer was unplugged, or a Network cable was unplugged during the update process, a network interface board will be started in below modes, when it is powered on. EPrint Server Mode(A version before the update.) EFail to update Mode(*) (*)The way to distinguish :A network interface board isn't searched by performing the update. (2-1)Case of Print Server Mode Perform the update of (1). (2-2)Case of Fail to update Mode Turn off the Printer. Hold a push button located at backside of a network interface board and press a power button within 2 sec. A network interface board enters compulsory update mode. Therefore, it is possible to search a network interface board. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
