the Digital Camera application in Windows 95 and Windows 3.1 / Windows 3.11.

1. The working environment of this application
----------------------------------------------

To run this application software, you need the hardware and software
given in the following tables.

Hardware Requirements:

Unit	 	      IBM or IBM compatible computer
Minimum CPU	      More than i486  (25 MHz)
Free Hard disk space  More than 30 MB
RAM		      More than 8 MB (more than 16 MB is recommended)
Color		      More than 256 colors and more than 640 x 480 pixels
		      [Full color (16.7 million colors) is recommended]
Floppy Disk drive     3.5 inch (Readable of 1.44 MB format disk)
Interface	      PCMCIA Type II slot, or RS-232C serial interface
		      connector

Software Requirements:

OS	 	      Windows 95, Windows 3.1/3.11 + Win32s(Version 1.30C)


[Note:]
Full color is recommended. 
If you use 256 colors, you cannot get the correct color and it will take
some more time to display.

2. Installation of this application
-----------------------------------

Install this application software using the supplied Setup disk(s).
Before installing the software, remember to make a back-up copy and store
the original in a safe place. To make a back-up copy, refer to your computer
manual.

(1) Turn on the computer.
    Make sure Windows 95 or Windows 3.1/3.11 is running.

(2) Insert the supplied Application Setup disk into the floppy disk drive.

(3) (For Windows 95)
    (a) Click [Start], point to "Settings", then click "Control Panel".
        The "Control Panel" window appears.
    (b) Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
	The "Add/Remove Programs Properties" window appears.
    (c) Click [Install...].
	The "Install Program From Floppy Disk or CD-ROM" window
	appears.
    (d) Click [Next>].
	The "Run installation Program" window appears.
	At the prompt, A:\SETUP.EXE will be displayed.
    (e) Click [Finish].
	The "Starting Installation" window appears.

    (For Windows 3.1/3.11)
    (a) Click [Run...] from the File menu of the Program Manager.
    (b) At the Command Line, type A:\SETUP.EXE.

(4) Click [OK].
    The "Destination Directory" window appears.
    If you wish to change the directory name, retype it.

(5) Click [OK].
    The "Confirm" window appears.

(6) The "Copying window appears during the setup software is being copied.
    The "Ending Installation" window appears when copying is finished.

(7) Click [OK].


If you are using Windows 3.1/3.11, remember to confirm whether Win32s is
installed in your computer. If it is not installed, install Win32s using
the supplied four "Microsoft(R) Win32s(R) Setup Disk(s)".
It is necessary to install Win32s, if its version is prior to 1.30C.
Refer to "4. About Win32s" in detail.

3. Error messages during installation
-------------------------------------
(1) The directory you typed is invalid.
    
    Use only valid characters (refer to the DOS manual).
    Use less than eight characters.

(2) Could not find the specified drive.
      
    The specified drive does not exist. Change the drive name.
	 
(3) Could not find the file.

    Make sure whether you insert the Setup disk into drive A (or B).

(4) Insufficient disk space.

    More than 2 MB disk space is required.

4. About Win32s
---------------

If you are using Windows 3.1/3.11, you can run only 16 bit applications.
As the Digital Camera application software is 32 bit application, Win32s is
required to work under Windows 3.1/3.11.

Win32s is the software program for 32 bit application software to work under
Windows 3.1/3.11.
However, this Digital camera application does not work using Win32s prior to
version 1.30C.

[How to confirm the Win32s version]

Open WIN32S.INI file under the Windows SYSTEM directory (Example
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM) using such as notepad of Windows Accessories.
You can find the Win32s version in the [Win32s] section. If it is older than
the version 1.30.171.0, it is required to reinstall it.

If Win32s is not installed or the older version of it, install Win32s as
follows.

(1) Insert the supplied "Microsoft(R) Win32s(R) Setup Disk 1" disk into the
floppy disk drive.

(2) Click "Run..." from the File menu of the Program Manager.

(3) At the Command Line, type A:\SETUP.EXE and click [OK].

Note:
A drive name may differ depending on the drive where the disk is inserted.
If the drive is B, type B:\SETUP.EXE.

(4) Follow the instructions on the computer screen.
     

If the following message is displayed during installing Win32s, Run
SHARE.EXE at the DOS prompt after finishing Win32s installation. Then
restart Windows again.

"File-sharing must be enabled. Run SHARE.EXE before starting Windows or add
SHARE.EXE to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file."


It is necessary to set the swap file setting to install Win32s.
If the following message is displayed, perform the Virtual Memory setting.

"Use the Control Panel 386 Enhanced icon and configure Windows using the
Virtual Memory option."

It is recommended that you set the size which is displayed in the
appropriate maximum size. If you change the swap file setting just after
installing Win32s, you might encounter the condition which the application
does not work properly.

* If you are using Windows 95, it is not necessary to install Win32s.

5. Compact memory card
----------------------
If your computer has PCMCIA Type II card slot, the memory card can be
inserted directly into your computer by using the supplied PCMCIA adaptor.
If you are using Windows 3.1/3.11, ATA card driver must be installed in
advance.
Confirm one of the following descriptions exists in the CONFIG.SYS file.
Install ATA card driver if you do not find it in it by referring to your
computer manual.

  * In case of using IBM card service
     DISKDRV.SYS (PlayAtWill Ver2)
     PAWATA.SYS / PAWATAS.SYS / PAWATASF.SYS (PlayAtWill Ver3)
     PCMATADD.SYS
  * In case of using SystemSoft card service
     ATADRV.EXE
  * In case of using Phoenix card service
     PCMATA.SYS


* If you try to remove or create directory in the memory card, you might not
perform capturing or playing back an image using your camera correctly.

* If you save the other kind of data onto the memory card using the
computer, the number of available images decrease.

* If you try to delete files in the memory card using Windows 95, the number
of available images might decrease as the Recycled file is created
automatically.

6. Connection between the Digital Camera and the computer
---------------------------------------------------------
Use the supplied PC interface cable to connect the camera to your computer.
To prevent from communication error, system lockup or data corruption
observe the followings.

(1) Do not turn off both the camera and your computer while the "Co" mark is
blinking on the camera LCD display or when a camera album is opened.

(2) It is recommended to use the AC adaptor (option) instead of batteries.

(3) Insert/remove the PC interface cable after turning off both the camera
and your computer.

(4) Do not remove the memory card while a data is being transferred between
the camera and your computer.

(5) If the data cannot be transferred properly, select the next Comm Speed
on the "Communications Setup" dialog box. Or select the available port where
the PC I/F cable is connected.

(6) As the other application may occupy the communication port, exit its
application. There may be different to release the communication port in
accordance the kind of application. Refer to the respective manuals.

7. Troubleshooting in case of 256 colors display
------------------------------------------------

If you are using 256 colors screen mode, you might encounter the following
phenomena when displaying or printing an image.

(1) Displaying an image

[Problem]
    If you try to paste the picture to the other application, the number of
    colors may decrease.

[Countermeasure]
    If you use the bitmap (BMP file) when pasting the picture onto the other
    application, it may happen that you can display the pasted picture
    without decreasing the number of colors. However, the number of colors
    becomes 256 colors.

    (Example) In case of using Microsoft Excel for Windows 95
    Click "Paste Special..." from the Edit menu. Select "Bitmap" as "File of
    Type".
    (Note:) You cannot edit the image pasted on the application in this
    case.

(2) Printing an image

[Problem]
    If you try to print an image, the number of colors may decrease.

[Countermeasure]
    If you choose such as "Photo" in the printer setting dialog box, it may
    happen that you can print an image without decreasing the number of
    colors. For detailed information, refer to your printer's manual.

[Problem]
    If you try to print an image after pasting onto the other application,
    the number of colors may decrease.

[Countermeasure]
    If you use the bitmap (BMP file) when pasting the picture onto the other
    application, it may happen that you can print the pasted picture without
    decreasing the number of colors.

    (Example) In case of using Microsoft Excel for Windows 95
    Click "Paste Special..." from the Edit menu. Select "Bitmap" as "File of
    Type".
    (Note:) You cannot edit the image pasted on the application in this
    case.

8. Countermeasure in case of not enough memory
----------------------------------------------
If you encounter "Not enough memory" condition, exit other application
program if it is running. Or increase the virtual memory.
( Regarding the change of Virtual Memory setting, refer to the instruction
manual of Windows and the help files. )
