Introduction
This file provides the information on how to use the GelSprinter GX Series
firmware update tool.
Please read this file carefully before using the product.
* The following procedure uses Windows XP.
Other Windows: Some procedures are different.

[1]Function
The GelSprinter GX Series firmware update tool (hereinafter referred to as
"firmware updater") updates firmware on the printer.
[2]Operating environment and Limitations
(a)PC
When utilizing the PC's USB interface to update the firmware, the USB port
must be comply with the USB standard 1.1 or higher.
The proper operation is guaranteed only when the printer is directly
connected to the computer with a USB cable or a Network cable.
(b)OS
The following OS are supported.
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition
Microsoft Windows XP Home / Professional Edition
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard/Enterprise Edition
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic/Home Premium/Business
Enterprise/Ultimate Edition
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard/Enterprise Edition
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium/Professional/Enterprise
Ultimate Edition
For these operating systems, the User must log in as the Administrator.
(c)Printer driver
In order to use the firmware updater, the printer driver should be
installed on your PC and printing should be available via USB connection.
[3]Before starting the update
(a)Make sure the printer is turned on.
(b)Be sure to connect the printer "directly" to the PC with a USB cable or
a Network cable.
The use of a USB Hub or like device may prevent proper update operation.
(c)This firmware updater is for GelSprinter GX Series only.
Make sure your printer is supported by this updater.
(d)Before starting the firmware update, please close all open applications,
windows, and or dialog boxes. This includes: the printer properties dialog
box, status monitor, and SmartDeviceMonitor status monitor.
(e)Complete all print jobs before starting the update.
(f)Do not turn off the printer or unplug the USB cable, or unplug the Network
cable during the update.
Also, do not start or print from other applications including the printer
driver, the GX status monitor and the SmartDeviceMonitor status monitor.
(g)If you turned off the printer or unplugged the USB cable during the update,
start the update again.
(h)Check the "System standby" and "Hibernate" settings of "Power Options"
before you start the update.
Set "Never" for the "System standby" setting and deselect "Enable hibernate
support".
(Under WindowsXP, set "Never" for "System standby" and "System hibernates"
settings.)
(i)Do not have the system standby or hibernate mode enabled during the update.
(j)Close status windows of SmartDeviceMonitor including "Status List" before
starting the update.
(k)Ensure that the "Extended Features Check Box" is unchecked, in the
SmartDeviceMonitor application. This setting is located within the
"Tools- Extended Features Settings" dialog box.
[4]How to update
- Double-click [GelSprinter_GXXXX_FirmwareUpdater_VX_XX.exe] to start the
update. (X_XX represents the version.)
Follow the instructions displayed on the screen.

Note: If the printer was unplugged, or USB cable/ Network cable was unplugged
during the update process, the printer will be started in one of the
following modes, when it is powered on:
(a) "Print mode" ("Ready" displayed on the LCD of the printer)
Solution: Restart the process by double-clicking the
[GelSprinter_GXXXX_FirmwareUpdater_VX_XX.exe]
(b) "Update mode (*)"("Update start" displayed on the LCD of the printer)
Solution: Restart the process by double-clicking the
[GelSprinter_GXXXX_FirmwareUpdater_VX_XX.exe], during this
process "Update start" will be displayed on the LCD of the
printer for approximately one minute.
In this case, it is not possible to update it in the Network.
Be sure to connect the USB cable, please update.
Note : if the process does not start after the allotted time, the
printer will automatically power off. Turn the power of the
printer on and restart the process.

Q1. How can I check whether the printer driver has been installed or not?
A1. On the [Start] menu, point to [Settings], and then click [Printers
(Printers and Faxes)].
Installed printer drivers are displayed on the [Printers (Printers and
Faxes)] dialog box.
Q2. How can I check which printer is supported by the updater?
A2. Start the firmware updater and check the printer name displayed on the
window title of the firmware update dialog box.
Q3. How can I check that USB has been selected for the port of the printer?
A3. Open "Printers and Faxes" folder from "Start" menu.
Click the icon of the printer, and then click [Properties] on the [File]
menu.
Select the [Ports] tab of [Properties]
Q4. How can I enable "bidirectional support"?
A4. Open "Printers and Faxes" folder from "Start" menu.
Click the icon of the printer, and then click [Properties] on the [File]
menu.
Select the [Ports] tab of [Properties], and enable "bidirectional support"
Q5. How can I delete print jobs manually?
A5. Open "Printers and Faxes" folder from "Start" menu.
Click the icon of the printer, and then click [Open] on the [File]menu.
Select [Cancel All Documents] from the [Printer]menu.
Q6. An "error" message has appeared on the LCD of the printer. How can I
update my printer?
A6. Refer to the User Guide supplied with the printer, for trouble-shooting
information.
Start the firmware update after fixing the error.
Q7. What will happen if I update with a firmware updater older than the
firmware?
A7. The firmware is not updated.
Q8. How can I cancel a "paused" printing state of the printer?
A8. Open "Printers and Faxes" folder from "Start" menu.
Click the icon of the printer, and then click [Open] on the [File]menu.
Select [Pause Printing] from the [Printer]menu.
Q9. How can I make the printer online?
A9. Press [Online] button on the operation panel of the printer or re-connect
the printer to your computer via a USB cable. A lamp of the online
button will be on.
Q10.(When I turn off the bi-directional support)
No message has appeared on the applicatoin. How can I confirm the process
of updating?
A10.Check the LCD of the printer.

Q11.(When I turn off the bi-directional support)
No finished message has appeared on the applicatoin. How can I confirm
the result of updating?
A11.Print system summary by the operation panel of the printer, check that
the printer was updated to the specified version.
(1)Push the [Menu] key of the operation panel of the printer.
(2)Select [Test Print].
(3)Select [Config. Page].
(4)Check the "System Version" of the system summary.
Q12.I guess the printer was restarted automatically. The process of updating
is finished?
A12.Yes, it ends normally. See <<J00767XX.pdf>>

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
