readme.txt Driver File Contents (wdc_upd.zip)

The instructions below apply to the contents of the .zip file named 'WDC_UPD'.
The utility runs within DOS and is used to update WD drives that are connected to a 3Ware 7500-X IDE (Parallel ATA) RAID controller.

Note: The tool will NOT work on DOS window that is running under Windows.
Currently, the utility does not support updates across multiple controllers.
See below for additional instructions on updating across multiple controllers.

To update drives on a system with a single 3ware controller the following steps must be taken:

1) Unzip WDC_UPD.ZIP onto bootable medium (floppy, CD-RW, network drive, etc.)
2) Boot the system to be updated to the medium where the update files were unzipped to.
3) Run WDcfgupd.bat
4) The utility will proceed to update all the drives on that controller. This process takes approximately 1 min. per drive.
5) Once the update completes, re-boot the system.
6) Update is complete.

To update drives on a system with two or more 3ware controllers the following steps must be taken:

1) Unzip WDC_UPD.ZIP onto bootable medium (floppy, CD-RW, network drive, etc.)
2) Boot the system to be updated to the medium where the update files were unzipped to.
3) Run wdcfgupd.bat
4) The utility will scan for 3ware controllers. Once it finds the first one, it will proceed to update all the drives on that controller.
This process takes approximately 1 min. per drive.
5) Once the update completes, turn the system off.
6) Pull out the 3ware controller whose drives were updated per the aforementioned steps.
7) Repeat steps 2 - 5 as needed until all drives across all controllers have been updated.
8) Re-insert the 3ware controllers that were taken out.
9) Update is complete.
