1. Instructions for setting up Display Adapter
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The display driver is built to work with ASIC Mode by default.

After the first time installation restart the PC to see the display adapter in the "Display Properties".

Configuring SW for ASIC/FPGA:
----------------------------------------
> The display miniport driver is built with default setting as ASIC Mode, i.e., if no change is done in the registry the driver is meant to work with ASIC board.
> To make driver work with FPGA, do the following changes.
After the Installation of Drivers.
1. Start->Run, Type in "Regedit"(Excluding quotes) and Enter.
2. Goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video
3. Search for a subkey which has a "Device Description" as "Moschip Graphics Adapter". (Note that there will be a "VolatileSettings" entry, if the adapter is connected to the PC.)
4. Create a new DWORD key with name as "IsFPGA" and enter the value as "1"(ONE)[Exclude Quotes].
5. Restart the system.

Configuring SW for Cached/Non-Cached frame buffer:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
> The display miniport driver is built with default setting as Non-Cached Frame Buffer.
> To configure the SW for Cached frame buffer, do the following changes.
4. Set the value of "IsCacheEnabled" to 0 if the key is already present. If the key is not there then, create a new DWORD key with name as "IsCacheEnabled" and enter the value as "0"(Zero)[Exclude Quotes].
5. Restart the system.

2. Choosing Display Mode
+++++++++++++++++++++
In windows display can work in two different modes.
1. Extended mode
2. Mirror mode.

- In Extended mode extension of the desktop of primary display can be seen in secondary display.
- In Mirror mode replica of things appearing on primary display adapter appears on secondary as well.

When the display adapter software is installed it comes up with the default display mode as specified in "Default Values" section.

MDisplay.exe application can be used to shift between these modes.

MDisplay.exe application is found at the following location,

  The application will come up with the current Read Monitor Info flag of the adapter else it comes up with
  Default settings as specified in "Default Values" section.
2)Select the 'Read Monitor Info' check box and click Apply.
  The Monitor Info can be read only when 'Read Monitor Info' is checked.
3)The application will ask for a reboot select OK.
  If you select cancel or ESC the changes will not be applied.The changes will only be applied when a reboot takes place.

Note:
At Color Quality 8 bit, our HW supports only gray scale. There is no support of pallet.
Windows do not provide an option of gray scale at 8 bit color depth.
That is the reason the support of 8 bit color quality options are removed in windows though the HRM claims to support these options.

6. Known Issues
++++++++++++++

	+ General
	----------
		Working In windows Vista & Win7
		================================
		-> if the primary has a WDDM driver. Since, the WDDM drivers are built for vista specific features(eg AERO, Gradient effects), and our card being a basic graphics adapter, we do not support Vista specific features with our card as it requires high end hardware capabilities. Hence, the video quality might degrade.

		To Resolve this, disable the hardware acceleration of the primary.
		Properties->Settings->advanced->(Select Primary)->Troubleshoot->Hardware Accceleration(Disable).
		If the Primary cards, do not allows to disable then, our video quality will degrade.
		In this case some of the players will not work and will not be able to play movies.

		Adapter not seen under Display Settings
		=======================================
		In Win7, some times moschip graphics adapter may not appear in display
		properties when the primary Graphics adapter has WDDM Driver.

		In such case to configure the display in extended mode.
		. Open the mdisplay.exe application which is available on the desktop.
		. See that the display mode as "Extended".
		. Click "Start Display" button.

		This should start the display in extended mode.

		Note: With the above steps it will come up with the default resolution
		(640x480x16bpp, @ 60Hz) in extended mode. Since it wont appear under display
		properties there is no direct provision to change the resolution.

		We are still working on it either to make it appear under display settings (or)
		to comeup with other alternative to configure the resolution.

		3D Screen Savers
		=================
		-> In mirror mode 3D screen savers do not appear on MCS9950 display. This is due to the Hardware Acceleration available for the primary display and unavailability of the same in MCS9950 display.

		To Resolve this, disable the hardware acceleration of the primary.
		Properties->Settings->advanced->(Select Primary)->Troubleshoot->Hardware Accceleration(Disable).

		3D Screen Savers Shrinkage
		===========================
		-> Sometime the 3D screen savers can appeared as shrinked compared to the Primary.
		    The reason for this is the Primary uses the appropriate resolution to display the screensaver, and the secondary
		    display's(MCS9950) resolution is selected as Automatic(By Default).

		    In order make it equal size to as primary, select the appropriate resolution in the 3D Screen Saver Settings.

		Video players
		=============
		-> In extended mode some of the video players cannot be played on MCS9950 display. This is due to the Hardware Acceleration available for the primary
		    display and unavailability of the same in MCS9950 display.
		    When we open AVI files with KM PLayer, Windows Media Player Classic etc we see this problem.

		To Resolve this, disable the hardware acceleration of the primary.
		Properties->Settings->advanced->(Select Primary)->Troubleshoot->Hardware Accceleration(Disable).

		Reading EDID Info
		=================
		-> Display Flickers while Reading the EDID information, this is due to the insufficient bandwidth.
		we have put a checkbox in the display property page, which will decide whether to read the EDID Data or Not.

		-> Automatic detection of change of monitors or child devices is not possible as MCS9950 display do not support interrupts for the reporting of child devices. Software implementation is not feasible as the
		soft polling requires EDID to read oftenly and reading EDID information will flicker the display due to bandwidth

limitation.

	+ Known issues with specific players and applications
	------------------------------------------------------

		-> VLC player cannot be played properly in 24 bit color depth as it is issue with the VLC player itself.
