Use in High Safety Applications
This Product is designed, developed and manufactured for general use, and is 
suitable without limitation for use in 
 - general office environments, 
 - for personal use and 
 - for household use.
 It is NOT designed, developed and manufactured for use in environments bearing 
extremely high risk potentials like fatal risks or dangers.  which require 
extremely high safety measures, and which could otherwise lead to death, 
personal injury, severe physical damage or other similar losses (hereinafter 
called. Use in High Safety Environments. Such environments include without 
limitations, use in: 
 - nuclear power facility control, 
 - airplane control, 
 - air traffic control, 
 - mass transport operation control, 
 - life support, and
 - weapon launching control.  
You should NEVER use this product without making sure that all necessary safety 
measures have been sufficiently taken, to comply with the necessary requirements
for its Use in High Safety Environments.  If you wish to use this product in 
High Safety Environments, please consult our sales person in charge before such 
use.

1. System requirements
---------------------------------------------------------------------

      Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 98
      Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Me
      Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000 Professional 
      Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Professional Edition 
      Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition 

  - CPU (Processor)
      Intel(R) Pentium(R) III 600MHz or higher
      (recommended: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 1.8GHzor higher)
  - Memory
      128MB or more (recommended: 256MB or more)
  - Hard-disk space
      30MB of available hard-disk space

2. Cautions Regarding USB and Your Computer
---------------------------------------------------------------------

 o Be sure to use the USB cable packaged with ScanSnap fi-5110EOX for connecting
   it to your computer.
    
 o Be sure to wait at least five seconds before re-inserting or re-connecting 
   the USB interface cable.  
   If the USB cable is re-inserted immediately after it is disconnected, 
   ScanSnap may not function properly. 
   
 o Use the display at High Color or higher setting. The display may sometimes be
   corrupted at 256 or less colors.

3. Cautions during Installation
---------------------------------------------------------------------

ScanSnap Manager user interface language changes to English if the Windows 
language is not English, German, French, Italian or Spanish. 
Be sure to connect ScanSnap only after installing ScanSnap Manager. 
ScanSnap cannot be registered to the system correctly if ScanSnap Manager is not
installed.   
    
Do not install ScanSnap Manager in the root directory. 
ScanSnap Manager may not function properly. Install ScanSnap Manager on the 
appropriate directory. 
    
 o The path name for the installation directory will automatically be generated 
   in DOS short form if it exceeds 121 characters. 
   When installing ScanSnap Manager, limit the path name for the installation 
   directory to 121 characters. 

 o When installing ScanSnap Manager on Windows 2000 or Windows XP, first log on 
   as Administrator 
  (or as a user with administrator privileges on Windows XP Home Edition). 
   
 o Do not use the following characters in the name of the installation 
   directory. ScanSnap Manager may not function properly if these characters are
   used. 

        \ / ; : , . * ? " < > |
        
 o Be sure to restart your computer after installing ScanSnap Manager.
   The re-boot registers ScanSnap to the system. 
    
 o Uninstall ScanSnap Manager before re-installing ScanSnap Manager. 
   ScanSnap Manager is not installed properly if it has not been uninstalled 
   completely. 

 o Before updating ScanSnap Manager, be sure to uninstall the old version, 
   restart you computer, and then install the new version of ScanSnap Manager.  
   If you do not restart your computer, ScanSnap Manager will not be installed 
   properly. 

When ScanSnap Manager is installed, PDF Thumbnail View is also installed.

4. Cautions during usage
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Document sizes that can be automatically selected are:
            A4 (portrait), B6 (portrait)
            A5 (portrait), Business card (portrait/landscape)
            B5 (portrait), Letter (portrait)
            Post card (portrait), Legal (portrait)
When you scan A6 size document, the size is recognized as Post card size.
However, document other than the above standard sizes may be recognized as a 
larger sized document. 

When automatic image rotation is enabled, scanning speed decreases. 

When Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) or Adobe(R) Reader(R) or Acrobat(R) Reader is the 
selected application, please be aware of the following.  

When Acrobat(R) Reader or Adobe(R) Reader(R) is started and Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) 
is already the selected application, scanned data is passed to Adobe(R) 
Acrobat(R). 

Likewise, when Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) is start Acrobat(R) Reader or Adobe(R) 
Reader(R) already running, the scanned data is passed to Acrobat(R) Reader or 
Adobe(R) Reader(R) . 

When the selected application is Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) or or Adobe(R) Reader(R) or
Acrobat(R) Reader, always set the file type  to "PDF". 

When the selected application is Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) or Adobe(R) Reader(R) or 
Acrobat(R) Reader, and no pages have been saved (i.e, all blank pages, an error 
occurs at the first page, etc.),
Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) or Adobe(R) Reader(R) or Acrobat(R) Reader will start but no
images will be displayed.

5. About PDF Thumbnail View
---------------------------------------------------------------------

 o PDF Thumbnail View is supported by Windows Me, Windows 2000 Professional,
   Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional.
   Note: that this application is not supported by Windows 98.

 o Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) 5.0/6.0 is required for operating PDF Thumbnail View.

 o Disable PDF Thumbnail View when uninstalling Adobe(R) Acrobat(R).

 o PDF Thumbnail View cannot be installed on the PC where ScanSnap fi-4010CU
   Driver (V2.0L20 or later) is already installed. Please use PDF Thumbnail View 
   included in ScanSnap fi-4010CU Driver.
   * When you use PDF Thumbnail View after uninstalling ScanSnap fi-4010CU Driver
   (V2.0L20 or later), it is necessary to reinstall of ScanSnap fi-5110EOX Manager
   V3.0L10.

6. Selecting CardMinder for ScanSnap as the application to link (Application)
---------------------------------------------------------------------

 o When CardMinder for ScanSnap is started, the "Application" setting 
   automatically becomes CardMinder for ScanSnap. 
   This setting is restored when you exit CardMinder for ScanSnap.  

 o While the ScanSnap Manager "Scan and Save Settings" screen is displayed, 
   scanning cannot be performed with CardMinder for ScanSnap.  
   Close the "Scan and Save Settings" screen, and try again.

7. Cautions during Uninstallation
---------------------------------------------------------------------

 o Perform uninstallation from "Add/Remove Programs" in the control panel. 
    
 o When uninstalling ScanSnap Manager from Windows 2000 or Windows XP, first log
   on as Administrator 
  (or as a user with administrator privileges on Windows XP Home Edition). 
    
 o Be sure to restart your computer after uninstalling ScanSnap Manager.
 
 o The Windows "Add New Hardware Wizard" will be started if ScanSnap is 
   connected when restarting your computer after uninstallation. 
   At uninstallation, either turn ScanSnap off, or disconnect the USB cable.

8. Other Cautions
---------------------------------------------------------------------

 o Two or more ScanSnap scanners cannot be connected at the same time.  
    
 o Avoid the following during scanning or while waiting for the scanner 
   initialize (the scan lamp is calibrating). 
   The system may become unstable.  
    
            - Inserting or disconnecting the USB cable connected to ScanSnap
            - Turning ScanSnap on or off
            - Uninstalling ScanSnap Manager
      
 o Scanning may not perform properly if the system is started after your 
   computer enters the power save mode or suspend mode during scanning or while 
   the lamp is calibrating. 

   In that case, turn your scanner off then back on again, and then try scanning
   again. 

 o Documents longer than the Paper size setting cannot be scanned. You will be 
   notified of a double-feed in this case. 
   If a double-feed frequently occurs, check the Paper size setting.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
