Issues and Resolutions This section identifies known problems with LAN+Modem card installation and operation. Topics include: A. General Issues B. Windows 2000 C. Windows Millennium Edition (Me) D. Windows 98 E. Windows 95 OSR 2 F. Windows NT 4.0 G. Specific Hardware Platforms ------------------------------------------------------------ A. General Issues ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. You Receive the Message "Digital Signature Not Found" During installation you may receive a "Digital Signature Not Found" message. Click "Yes" to continue the installation. ------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Your Modem Won't Answer a Fax Call Most communications software packages allow you to select one of the following ways to answer a call: "detect fax & data", "data only", "fax only", and "ignore ring". If you have "detect fax & data" selected and your modem won't answer fax calls, set the answer mode to "fax only". ------------------------------------------------------------ 3. System Hangs When Card is in Docking Station Some laptop docking stations do not properly manage resources for the LAN+Modem card. Install the LAN+Modem card only in the computer's main card slots. ------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Network Performance is Slow or Computer Not Connecting to Network. If the network interface is set to autosense with auto polarity disabled and the cable is connected to a port set for 10Mbps/Full, performance may be affected. If switch is configured for 10Mbps/Full and the card for Auto, a mismatch of duplex mode may result. If you are connecting to a dual-speed 10/100 hub or to a switch forced to 10Mbps speed, make sure the settings on the card match those on the switch. If not, disable autopolarity and set the speed and duplex to match the port. To disable autopolarity: 1. Open Control Panel/Network. 2. Click Adapters. 3. Select Properties and disable Auto Polarity. 4. Reboot You can manually set network speed and polarity for all supported environments. ------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Unable to Ping Between Two Installed LAN Cards This could be a problem with how the IP addresses are bound. Bind one card to a static IP address and set the other to to specify the IP address automatically. ------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Wake-Up-On-Ring Feature Enabled; Card Will Not Wake Up Suspend/Wakeup-On-Ring is not currently supported by Windows. Hence, in suspend mode, your computer turns off the power to the card, which means that there is no way for it to detect the ring. ------------------------------------------------------------ 7. System Refuses to Enter Suspend Mode While a Communications Application is Running The LAN+Modem card does not support forcing the system into suspend mode while a communications application (such as HyperTerminal) is running. Windows environments reject suspend-mode requests in such instances. After the suspend-mode failure, the LAN interface may no longer show up in the system as a valid device. If this happens, try one of the following: - Close all programs and log in as a different user. - Remove the card from the computer, reinsert it in the same slot, and run Suspend/Resume again. ------------------------------------------------------------ 8. The System Does not Recognize the Card, or Could Not Install the Card The system could not find a valid .INF file. This is a BIOS problem. Contact your computer vendor for information on obtaining and installing the latest BIOS version for your computer. ------------------------------------------------------------ B. Windows 2000 ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Drivers for Card Installation When installing the card, the path for Windows 2000 is d:\install\disks\win2000 (where d: is the CD-ROM drive). ------------------------------------------------------------ C. Install Novell IntraNetware client version 3.1 or later. ------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Cannot Install Two Winmodems This is a Winmodem limitation. Only one installed modem will function under Windows 98. However, both LAN interfaces should behave normally. If you must have two modems installed, you can run a controller-based modem simultaneously with a Winmodem. ------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Modem Does Not Give Sound With the default audio settings for Windows 98, you may not hear the sound from the modem when you dial out. To enable the sound, complete the following procedure: 1. Locate the speaker icon in the system tray. If there is no speaker icon in the system tray, open the Control Panel and double-click Multimedia. On the Audio page, make sure Show volume control on the task bar is checked 2. Double click the speaker icon in the system tray. 3. When the Master Out window opens, select Options. 4. Choose Properties and make sure the Mono In box is checked. Click OK. 5. When the Master Out window is redisplayed, check Mono In Balance. Ensure that the mute box is unchecked. If the modem still does not make a sound, you may need to update your computer's BIOS. ------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Can't Install Two LAN+Modem Cards The modem driver supports only one modem in Windows 95 environments. For this reason, dual installations are not supported. You can disable one modem installation and operate with one modem and two LAN connections. For technical information, see Microsoft Limitation Article Q184191 on the Microsoft on-line support Web site. ------------------------------------------------------------ F. Windows NT 4.0 ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Drivers for Card Installation When installing the card using point enabler or System Soft, the path is d:\install\disks\winnt40\standard (where d: is the CD-ROM drive). When using Softex, the path is d:\install\disks\winnt40\softex (where d: is the CD-ROM drive). ------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Installing the Modem Interface Using System Soft Software 1. Insert the Installation CD in the CD-ROM Drive. 2. From the Windows Start Menu select Run. 3. At the message: "Windows NT is now ready to start the Network so that you can complete the installation of Networking. Click Next to start the Network.", turn off the computer and restart it. This will restore the card to normal operation. ------------------------------------------------------------ G. Specific Hardware Platforms ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Fujitsu Lifebook 585TX A. While using the LAN and modem functions at the same time, the computer fails to respond. Simultaneous LAN and modem operation is not supported on this computer. ------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Texas Instruments Extensa 390 A. System will not detect card. The LAN+Modem card is not supported on this computer. ------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Toshiba (all models) A. Card does not respond when configured with default resources This problems applies to systems running Service Pack 3 under Windows NT 4.0. When the card is set up using the default settings, the system may not respond. Toshiba systems require IRQ 11 for the LAN+Modem card. Changing the interrupt from 10 to 11 solves the problem. Refer to file NTconfig.txt, to which you can link from the user guide. On the Toshiba Satellite 4000 CDT, IRQ 15 is already in use (ATAPI).
