Unattended Installation for Windows NT 4.0 This procedure describes how to install Windows NT 4.0 Workstation with the CardBus PC Cards. See the Microsoft Web site for more information and other methods. The unattended installation can be performed either on a local hard disk or an NT server. Requirements · Windows NT 4.0 Workstation CD or source files from the i386 directory · NT server to attach to if installing with the server install method · DOS client bootable diskette if installing with the server install method Installing from your Local Hard Disk 1. Boot the notebook using a floppy diskette. 2. Load HIMEM.SYS, EMM386.EXE, and SMARTDRV.EXE. Loading these files makes the installation proceed much faster. 3. Change the current directory to \I386 on the installation media. Creating a general installion from an NT Server 1. Make sure that you have the proper rights to access the NT server. You need permissions to create directories and copy files to the NT server. 2. Copy the i386 directory from the NT CD to a shared directory on the NT server. Make sure that the folder is shared and you are given full access to the folder. 3. When connecting to a domain, it is recommended that a system administrator create a computer account before installation Creating a specific Windows NT 4 Workstation Installation for the 3C575 1. If you are installing from a CD, copy the NT source files to the local hard drive (ex: c:\i386) or to the server (in the shared folder). 2. In the DRVLIB.NIC folder in the directory where the NT source files were copied, create the following directory: FE575. For example: CD I386 CD DRVLIB.NIC MD FE575 3. Copy the following files to the directory I386\DRVLIB.NIC\FE575 created in step 2. The following files are located on the root of the LAN Installation Disk: OEMSETUP.INF ELPC575.DL_ EL575ND4.SYS EL575ND3.SYS TC575NDI.DL_ UN3C575.EX_ Note: Copy ELPC575A.DL_ also if you are installing any 3C575B NICs. 4. Create an answer file (UNATTEND.TXT) and copy it to the i386 directory. Your answer file must contain the following entries: [Unattended] TargetPath = WINNT OemPreinstall = no ConfirmHardware = no NtUpgrade = no Win31Upgrade = no OverwriteOemFilesOnUpgrade = no [UserData] FullName = "Unattended User" ;Insert your USER NAME OrgName = "Unattended 3Com" ;Insert your ORGANIZATION NAME ; ; Please Specify your computer name and OS product ID ; ComputerName = "?????" Copy your answer file into the i386 directory of your NT CD image on the NT server, or on the local hard drive for the local install method. 6. For the local install method, skip to step 8. For the server install method, continue with step 7. 7. For the server install method, please do the following: a. Create a DOS bootable floppy diskette that will connect you to the NT; it is not necessary to attach to a server for the local install method. You can create the NT DOS Client Boot Disk on the NT Server by running the NETWORK CLIENT ADMINISTRATOR utility. b. Boot your notebook with the NT DOS Client Boot Disk you created in step 7.a. above to connect to the NT server. c. Map a drive to the I386 directory. For example, type: net use Z: \\NTSERVER\I386 8. Remove any diskettes from the floppy drive. 9. Change directory to the location of the i386 files. For example: C:\i386 for a local installation and Z:\ for a network installation (if that is the drive letter mapped to the shared directory where the i386 files reside.) 10. Launch the unattended installation using the following syntax: WINNT /B /S:(path to I386 files) /U:UNATTEND.TXT /B -signifies a diskless installation /S -designates the location of the NT source files /U -designates the unattended mode of installation and specifies the path to the answer file. Example of the install line for a local installation: WINNT /B /S:C:\i386 /U:UNATTEND.TXT Example of the install line for a network installation: WINNT /B /S:Z:\ /U:UNATTEND.TXT %ver - 3C575 Windows NT 4 Unattended Installation Instructions V2.6.5.0Download Driver Pack
