EFI System Firmware Update Package Install Instructions

S5520HC, S5500HCV, S5520HCT and S5520SC System Firmware Update Package PR9 Update Instructions

This Update package includes the following system software updates:

  System BIOS  - 48.2
  BMC Firmware - 00.51
  ME Firmware  - 1.12 
  FRUSDR       - 25

Important NOTES: 

- All the updates provided in this package are EFI based (unless otherwise noted).To 
  run these updates, you must boot the system to the embedded EFI shell and then 
  access the USB device or hard disk containing the system software updates.

                       SYSTEM HARDWARE and SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
*************************************************************************************
The contents of this update package is used to update the System Firmware for 
the following Intel Server Products only:

  - Intel(R) Server Board S5520HC FAB4 or later
  - Intel(R) Server Board S5500HCV FAB4 or later
  - Intel(R) Server Board S5520HCT FAB4 or later
  - Intel(R) Workstation Board S5520SC FAB3 or later

  - BIOS R0025, R0025.1, or later Version
  - BMC 00.28 or later Version
  - FRUSDR 11 or later version
  - EEPROM 1.3 or later version

                 Standard Update Procedure from the embedded EFI Shell
*************************************************************************************

- Unzip package and copy all files to a folder in USB disk on key
- Insert USB disk on key to server / workstation USB port
- Boot Server to EFI shell
- Run command "map -r" in EFI shell to mount USB disk on key
- Run command "fs0:" to change folder to USB disk on key, USB key may also mount to
  fs1:. The number of "fs#" is dependent on the result of command "map -r"
- Change folder to the folder storing the firmware package
- Run command "startup.nsh" to start updating all the firmware and BIOS


Warning: 
!!Do NOT reboot or shut down power from your system during following software update!!

If you want to update single component like BMC/BIOS separately, please go to the 
EFIscripts folder and execute the specified scripts separately, and follow below 
update process to ensure trouble free update from BIOS R0025 or R0025.1, BMC 00.28:
  1) BMC firmware update to 00.51
  2) BIOS update to R0048.2
  3) Manageability Engine (ME) Firmware update to 01.12
  4) FRUSDR update to 25

                                Update BMC Firmware
*************************************************************************************
1) Boot the system to the EFI shell and go to EFIScripts folder
2) At the shell prompt, run "BMC51.nsh" to start BMC Firmware update
3) When complete, go to the BIOS update section described below, or power off the 
   system and cycle AC power before continuing.

                                 Update System BIOS 
*************************************************************************************

Warning:
!!Ensure BMC 00.45 is well installed in your system prior to run this BIOS 
update, if you update BIOS from R0025 or R0025.1!!

1) Boot the system to the EFI shell and go to EFIScripts folder
2) At the shell prompt, run "BIOS48.2.nsh" to start BIOS update
3) When complete, reboot the system and enter BIOS Setup by pressing the F2 Key during
   POST 
4) Verify the BIOS string on main BIOS menu shows the BIOS revision as S5500.86B.01.20.0048.041620101015 
5) Press F9 to load defaults and press F10 to save and reset the system
6) The BIOS update is complete. Either reboot the server or go to the ME firmware Update 
   section described below.

                                   Update ME Firmware
*************************************************************************************
1) Boot the system to the EFI shell and go to EFIScripts folder
2) At the shell prompt, run "ME1.12.nsh" to start ME firmware update
3) When complete, go to the FRUSDR update section described below, or power off the 
   system and cycle AC power before continuing.

                                      Update FRUSDR
*************************************************************************************
!!Warning: Ensure BMC release 00.40 or later is pre-installed before attempting this 
FRU/SDR update!!

1) Boot the system to the EFI shell and go to EFIScripts folder
2) At the EFI command prompt, run "FRUSDR25.nsh" to start FRUSDR update
3) Answer questions and enter desired information when prompted.
4) When complete, reboot the system by front control panel

                                    Verifying updates
*************************************************************************************

1)  During POST, hit the F2 Key when prompted to access the BIOS Setup Utility
2)  Hit the F9 key to load BIOS Defaults
3)  At the MAIN menu verify the BIOS revision is 'S5500.86B.01.20.0048.041620101015'
4)  Move cursor to the SERVER MANAGEMENT Menu
5)  Move cursor down to the SYSTEM INFORMATION Option and hit Enter
6)  Verify the BMC Firmware revision is 0.51
7)  Verify the SDR Revision is 'SDR Package 25'
8)  Verify the ME Firmware revision is 1.12
9 ) Hit the F10 Key to save changes and Exit


The System Software Update is Complete.

How To Update Drivers Manually

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
