A. How to program the RTL8139(A/B/C)/8130/810X Boot rom.

1. Use Realtek FLASH memory programming utilty(\\exe\rtflash.exe) to program
   RPL boot ROMs(\\exe\rpl.rom) into a RTL8139(A/B/C)/8130/810X network 
   interface card(NIC).  

    For example: 
	rtflash  rpl.rom      <enter> (program rpl.rom to NIC)
	rtflash -v rpl.rom    <enter> (verify the contain of the FLASH memory.

2. Or you can program RPl ROM image into the EPROM using EPROM program machine.

3. Last, the most important, run "RSET8139.EXE" utility to set the "Boot Rom Size"
   to the FLASH/EPROM size on the RTL8139(X)/8130 adapter. Otherwise, the system 
   BIOS might miss this ROM.	

    For example:
  	M27C128	 (16K bytes/128K bits EPROM) ---> set to 16K	
  	M27C256	 (32K bytes/256K bits EPROM) ---> set to 32K	
  	M27C512	 (64K bytes/512K bits EPROM) ---> set to 64K				
	AT29C512 (64K bytes/512K bits FLASH) ---> set to 64K
	AT29C010 (128K bytes/1M bits FLASH)  ---> set to 128K
	AT49F001 (128K bytes/1M bits FLASH)  ---> set to 128K
	39SF512  (64K bytes/512K bits FLASH) ---> set to 64K

B. How to enable RTL8139(A/B/C)/8130/810X RPl  Boot ROM to boot from network.

The new RPL ROM (v3.14) does no longer hook Int18h and Int19h at the same time
to always boot from network first. It let the users to make the decision.
User can select from four bootstrap selections:ROM disable, Int18h, Int19H and
PnP/BEV(BBS).

->First, when system boot, press <F10> when screen shows:

Press F10 key to change bootstrap selection.
Current Selection is -- RPM Disable

->Then, the following message will be displayed:

  Realtek Bootstrap selection menu
  --------------------------------
1 - ROM Disable -- Network boot disabled, boot local devices network boot
2 - Int 18h     -- Boot the devices ordered in BIOS setup
3 - Int 19h     -- Always boot network first, then local devices
4 - PnP/BEV(BBS)-- Boot devices ordered by BBS supported BIOS
Press 1, 2, 3, or 4: 

->The ability to enable the RTL8139(X)/8130 BootROM to boot from network depends
  on underly BIOS support. You should select

1 - ROM Disable
if you like to disable RTL8139(X)/8130 RPL bootROM. The RTL8139(X) will operate
normally, but will not attempt to remote boot.

4 - PnP/BEV (BBS)
if your BIOS supports BBS. And then, select the RPL ROM as the first boot device.

2 - Int 18h
if your BIOS does not support BBS, but it support 'network boot' in the boot 
device re-ordering list of the BIOS setup. And then, select 'network boot' as
the first boot device.

3 - Int 19h
if your BIOS(older platforms) does not support BBS, nor 'network work' in the
re-ordering list. Using 'Int 19h' will force the RTL8139(X) BootROM to be the
first boot device over the Hard Disk and Floopy all the time.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
