Package Version 0.30 / ReadMe Version 0.30 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ VIA VT6410 IDE RAID is a RAID controller that supports RAID 0, 1, 0+1 and JBOD. It also supports up to four IDE hard disk drives. This "VIA VT6410 Linux Driver Package" is provided for drivers and utility installations, which are needed when using the VIA VT6410 IDE RAID Controller. System BIOS must integrates VIA VT6410 RAID BIOS. Supports up to four hard disk drives, which all support LBA address. To install the driver, run the install script:drvinstall # ./drvinstall 2. To use the driver, type: #modprobe viaraid If there are no other SCSI cards on the system, /dev/sda, sdb ... are our devices. =========================== == Driver Uninstallation == =========================== To uninstall the driver, type: #rmmod viaraid 4) Utility Installation ====================== == Software Version == ====================== BIOS version: Driver version: v0.30 VIA RAID Tool Software Utility version: v0.20 Operating Systems: Red Hat Linux 7.2, ===================== == Release History == ===================== v0.1 3/20/2003 Initial release v0.2 05/06/2003 Version 0.2 release ========================================= == VIA RAID Tool Software Installation == ========================================= Verify System Requirements: To run the RAID Tool, the following software packages must be installed onto the system: 1) X-Window system 2) Java VM v1.4 or later, add java VM path into file /root/.bash_profile Before installation, the user must log on as root and change the directory to the location where installation files are stored. The user can then install the tool. 1) If KDE or GNOME workstation is being used, please note that X-Window is has been installed. If X-Window is not installed, the user can check his or her system and refer to the Linux system manual for how to install the X-Window system. 2) To install Java VM , add java VM path into file /root/.bash_profile 3) Run command "sh ./viartinstall.sh -i " Note: If an older version is installed in the system, the user will be prompted to choose whether or not to overwrite the existing files. To continue installation, type in "Y". ======================================== == Running the VIA RAID Tool Software == ======================================== The user must log on as root to run the tool. To run the software from a console window, just type in "viaraidtool". ============================ == Utility Uninstallation == ============================ Before uninstalling the software, the user must log on as root. The user can then use the command "viartinstall.sh" to uninstall the software. 5) Insatll Operating System RedHat 7.2 Due to the RedHat 7.2 installation bug, the updates disk is used instead of the driver disk. How to use the updates disk: 1. Make a driver disk: (a) On a DOS or Windows system, the Red Hat 7.2 driver diskette rawrite.exe can be made. It can be found on the Red Hat Linux CD (under /dosutils), just run it under a command window and follow its prompt instructions. (b) On a Linux system, use the dd command to make the boot diskette. Insert a floppy disk into the floppy drive and type the command: dd if=rh72dd-athlon.img of=/dev/fd0 2. Install OS: Boot from redhat7.2 install CD, when it prompt boot, type: linux dd updates 6) NotesDownload Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
