*** Defax 6900/7900 GDI Print Driver Installation The Defax 6900/7900 GDI Printer has a parallel and a serial port, either of which can be used to connect to your PC for printing. Using the parallel port is recommended as speed is faster and setup is easier. The Centronics port cannot be used in combination with a network board. The Defax 6900/7900 GDI Printer can be interfaced as a 300 x 300 dpi or 600 x 600 dpi printer for Microsoft Windows via the accompanying print driver on this diskette. To install the Defax 6900/7900 GDI Printer, you must first connect it to your PC. Then install the GDI print driver into your Microsoft Windows System. Hardware Installation: 1. Shut down your computer. 2. Turn off the Defax 6900/7900. 3. For Parallel connection: Obtain a good quality Parallel Printer cable. Connect it between the "Centronics" port on the rear side of the Defax 6900/7900 and the parallel printer port on your PC. For Serial connection: A serial cable is needed. Defax 6900/7900 has a 9 pin serial port. Connect it to the serial port on your PC. If your PC serial port is a 25 pin type you will have to obtain a 9-to-25-adapter. 4. Turn on your Defax 6900/7900. 5. Turn on your PC and start Windows. --------------------------------------------------------------- Installing Defax 6900/7900 GDI Print Driver for Windows 95 --------------------------------------------------------------- 1 Click the "Start" Button on the taskbar, point to "Settings" , click "Printers" to open the Printers folder, then choose the "Add Printer" icon in the Printers folder to open the Add Printer Wizard. 2 On the Add Printer Wizard that appears. Click "Next", choose "Local Printer", and click "Next" again. 3 A list of Printers will appear along with a "Have Disk..." button to the right. Click the "Have Disk..." button. 4 A dialog box appears, instructing you to insert the manufacturer's installation disk. Insert the program disk. Click the "Browse" button, select the folder "\Win95" that contains the file "Minolta.inf" on the program disk. Click the "OK" button. 5 Click the "OK" button. The Add Printer Wizard then lists a Defax 6900/7900. 6 Select the printer you want and click "Next". 7 From the list of available ports, select the serial port or parallel port to which you have connected the print device. If you are using a PARALLEL PORT (such as LPT1) GO TO STEP 8. If you are using a SERIAL PORT (such as COM 2), you must also click the "Configure Port" button to configure the serial port of your PC to match the print device. GDI printer is: Bits per second (Baud Rate): 38400 Data bits: 8 Parity: None Stop bits: 1 Flow control: Hardware Click "OK" after you have adjusted the port settings. 8 Click "Next" to continue following the instructions provided by the Add Printer Wizard. This Wizard will copy all the necessary files to your hard drive and load the new printer driver. During the file copy process, A "Copying Files..." dialog may appear to instruct you to insert the original Windows 95 installation disk. The files requested may already reside in your Windows system. Click the "Browse" button on the "Copying Files..." dialog, then direct Windows to search for the files in the "System" directory of your Windows directory first. (Ex. c:\windows\system ). If the files requested are not found in the Windows System directory, insert the Windows 95 installation disk and instruct the "Copying Files..." dialog to search for the files on the Disk. --------------------------------------------------------------- Installing Defax 6900/7900.GDI Printer Driver for Windows NT 4.0 --------------------------------------------------------------- 1 Click the "Start" Button on the taskbar, point to "Settings" , click "Printers" to open the Printers folder, then choose the "Add Printer" icon in the Printers folder to open the Add Printer Wizard. 2 On the Add Printer Wizard choose "My Computer", and click "Next" again. 3 From the list of available ports, select the serial port or parallel port to which you have connected the print device. If you are using a PARALLEL PORT (such as LPT1) GO TO STEP 4. If you are using a SERIAL PORT (such as COM 2), you must also click the "Configure Port" button to configure the serial port of your PC to match the print device. During the file copy process, A "Insert Disk..." dialog may appear to instruct you to insert the original Windows NT installation disk. The files requested may already reside in your "Win32x86" directory. Click OK then browse on the "Files Needed..." dialog and direct Windows to search for the files in the "Win32x86" directory of your Winnt directory first. (Ex. c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\win32x86 ). If the files requested are not found, insert the Windows NT installation disk and instruct the "Copying Files..." dialog to search for the files on the Disk.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
