1. Installation Instructions
----------------------------
* Install from Setup Package
1. Run Setup.exe from the extracted Setup Package
   or run self-extract execution Audio_{Version}_Multi.exe
   to start Setup process.
2. In 98/ME, Setup program will prompt you to reboot system.
   After system reboot, driver installation will complete properly.
   In 2000/XP, driver installation may complete without any system reboot.

* Install from Device Manager
1. Start Control Panel's System applet, then
   select "Device Manager" tab (in 98/ME),
   or select "Hardware" tab and click on "Device Manager" button (in 2000/XP).

(If audio driver has never been installed ...)
2. In the device list,
   double click on the "PCI Multimedia Audio Device" item
   under "Other Devices" category.
3. In the Properties dialog,
   click on "Reinstall" button.

(If audio driver has already been installed ...)
2. In the device list,
   double click on the "AC'97 Audio WDM Driver" item
   under "Sound, video and game controllers" category.
3. In the Properties dialog,
   select "Driver" tab and click on "Update Driver" button.

4. Follow Hardware Update Wizard (or Update Device Driver Wizard) prompt.
   Select Install from the specific location and specify the correct path.

2. Uninstallation Instructions

* Uninstall from Add/Remove Programs
(This method is recommended if driver is previously installed by Setup program.)
1. Start Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel.
2. Select "AC'97 Audio Controller" item.
3. Click on "Remove" button.

* Uninstall from Device Manager
1. Start Device Manager from Control Panel's System applet.
2. Right click on "AC'97 Audio Controller" item, then
   select "Remove" (or "Uninstall") item from the popup menu.

3. AC'97 Sound Setup Utility
--------------------------
* From Control Panel window, double chick on the "AC'97 Sound Setup" applet
  icon to launch this program.

* CODEC Power Saving Configuration
- "Power Management" tab
- "Enable Power Management" checkbox:
	to enable or disable CODEC power saving function
- "Always"/"Only in battery power mode" combobox:
	to select the active time of CODEC power saving function
- "Turn off CODEC power after (when no sound is played)" combobox:
	to set the idle time to automatically power down CODEC (PR0:ADC, PR1:DAC)
- "Enable External Amplifier Power Down":
	to further power down CODEC (PR2:Mixer, PR7:EAPD)
- [Apply] button: to apply the new settings,
- [OK] button: to apply the the new settings and exit program

  - is the driver binary
  - will be installed to %windir%\System32\Drivers
* ALi55CPL.cpl
  - is the AC'97 Sound Setup Utility binary
  - will be installed to %windir%\System (in 98/ME) or System32 (in 2000/XP)
* ALi55PRP.dll
  - the property page will display some AC97 codec features.
  - will be installed to %windir%\System (in 98/ME) or System32 (in 2000/XP)
* ALi*.inf
  - will be installed to %windir%\inf (in 2000/XP)
    or inf\Other (in 98/ME)

  - Changed the method to communicate with modem about audio/modem status while suspend or resume.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
