Upgrading drivers and utilities from previous versions
======================================================

The first time you run the Intel PROSet Installer, the Installer
automatically upgrades installed utilities to version 7.0. For example,
if a previous version of Intel PROSet is installed, it is automatically
upgraded to version 7.0.

The second time you run the Installer, options, and the ability to
uninstall or modify installed components
or install new components, are available.

Before installing devices or updating drivers, you must uninstall
all devices first. After uninstalling all devices, continue with the
installation of the new devices and utilities.

Required Service Pack for Windows 2000
======================================

For the driver and software to function correctly on Windows 2000, you must
install Service Pack 3 or later.

Required Service Pack for Windows XP
======================================

For the driver and software to function correctly on Windows XP, you must
install Service Pack 1 or later.

Required Service Pack for Windows NT 4.0
======================================

For the driver and software to function correctly on Windows NT 4.0, you must
install Service Pack 6 or later.

Known limitations
=================

Installing multiple VPN clients:

If there are multiple VPN clients installed, this might cause the wireless adapter
in the PROSet main window Network tree to not be displayed.

To fix this issue:
Ensure that there is only one VPN client installed. Uninstall all other VPN clients.

Windows 98 (Retail) Mini PCI adapter Driver Installation:

If Internet Explore version 5.0 in not installed before the hardware driver installation,
Plug-and-Play installation will not launch.

To fix this issue:
Ensure that Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or later is installed
before Installing the PRO/Wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter driver.

Meetinghouse* Supplicant (802.1x Authentication client software):

In certain situations when using LEAP, the wireless adapter can take too long to
authenticate to the AP during the 802.1x authentication process. To fix this problem
it is recommended that the Timeout setting in the application be decreased
to a minimal setting to attain optimal connect time to the AP. The minimal Timeout
setting can also depend on the number of APs within range of the wireless adapter
and the signal strength.

Workaround:
change the Authentication timeout setting to a lower setting:

1. Click the Aegis Client's icon in the system task tray to open the program.
2. Select the installed wireless adapter and Right-click.
3. Select Configure.
4. Click the Protocol Settings tab.
5. Enter a new timeout setting in the Authentication timeout drop-down box.
6. Click OK to save the setting and close the dialog.

Ad Hoc 802.11a is not implemented at the time of this release due to regulatory
restristrictions and lack of common transmit and receive channels.

Windows Nt4.0 Admin. Tools (AP Discovery and Site Survey) Installation:

A warning installation message "The system already has WLAN Transport ver 4.01.
Use (Repair) to update the software." displays during the AP Admin. Tool
installation.

Solution:
If the above messages displays, press the keyboard space bar once (instead of using
the mouse to select OK) then continue with the installation.
After the installation process is complete, the application is ready to use.

Using a Bluetooth device with adapter switching:
When using a Bluetooth device that supports IPv4 (Widcomm driver) and adapter
switching, traffic for an installed wireless adapter may be directed through the
bluetooth device that has a lower bandwidth. Also, if a VPN connection is being used
with a wireless adapter, the connection could fail.

Solution:
After selecting a wireless adapter from the adapter switching dialog, make sure that
the DHPC address is the correct one for selected adapter. From the Intel(R) PROSet
General tab, click the Details button to display the DHPC address.

Ad Hoc Mode 802.11b only:
For this release of Intel(R) PROset Ad Hoc mode operates only with 802.11b band only.
Ad hoc mode using 802.11a band is not available for this release.
