Contents ======== 1. Functions and features 2. Limitations 3. Known problems 4. Silent Setup 1. Functions and features ============== - Easily control - Windows Media Player 12 - Apple iTunes 9 - Nullsoft WinAmp 5.57 with the thumbs without disturbing your writing flow. 3. Limitations ============================== - Philips Media Player Control may work but is not supported under Windows 2000 and earlier. - Philips Media Player Control may work with but does not support earlier versions of the supported media players. 4. Known problems ================= - Player issues - If you play back a track till the end, usually the next track in the playlist is started. you have no chance to get back to the previously played track using the hand control. - If you play back a track till the end, and there is no other track in the playlist, fast rewind and Auto Backspace on the hand control do not work (because there is no current track). However, pressing play on the hand control restarts playback. - Some asynchronisms can occur between the playback state of the media player and the playback state of the hand control (displayed by the led), if actions are triggered not only via the hand control but also via the user interface of the player. Example: user starts playback via hand control. user pauses playback via player UI. the player is now paused, although the hand control led is on. if now pressing the right button on the hand control, the player will not start to play again, in order to re-establish the synchronity between hand control and player. - Button issues - The buttons on the hand control have to be pressed properly, otherwise the press might not be recognized by the hardware. - Auto Backspace is only working with a between-click-time of max. 300 ms. Furthermore, if the button is not properly pressed, the hardware does not send a clicked event at all. So it is possible, that no Auto Backspace is carried out, if the button was not properly doubleclicked. if only one of the two clicks is forwarded by the hardware, a one-second-rewind/forward can happen. - Parallel use with other Philips software - Philips Media Player Control can be used parallel to any other Philips software. However, when using it parallel to Philips Device Control Center (Speech Control), some unexpected behaviour may occur. See two use cases: Use case 1: - Both Philips Device Control Center and Philips Media Player Control are running - In Philips Device Control Center, the “Play” event is mapped to a keyboard shortcut, which causes the media player to pause - User presses “play” button on the hand control - if media player is paused, it starts playback and immediately gets paused again Use case 2: - Both Philips Device Control Center and Philips Media Player Control are running - In Philips Device Control Center, the “Play” event is mapped to the Ctrl+K keyboard shortcut, which causes MS Word to bring up the “Insert Hyperlink” dialog - MS Word is in focus. User presses “play” button on the HC - media player starts playback, word brings up the dialog in parallel -> all commands are carried out - OS issues - All OS: If Windows Media Player is minimized to run in the taskbar, it is not controllable by Philips Media Player Control. - Vista/7: if run as administrator, Philips Media Player Control is only working on media players also run as administrator. - Other issues - When Philips Media Player Control is running, and you uninstall it, the system tray icon is still displayed after uninstall. 4. Silent Setup ================= - Philips Media Player Control can be installed silently using msiexec via the command line. Examples: msiexec /i PhilipsMediaPlayerControlSetup.msi /qn is installing the software. msiexec /x PhilipsMediaPlayerControlSetup.msi /qn is uninstalling the software. please consider: no custom parameters are possible. Settings which can be configured during UI install (Add Startmenu entry, Run on windows startup) are set to true by default. the installation path will be default (c:\Program Files\Philips Speech\Media Player Control\). - Vista/7: Silent Setup requires administrator rights and UAC turned off. Command Prompt must be run as administrator. Otherwise the installation/uninstallation will not work. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Microsoft Office are registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.
