1. OVERVIEW
The OPS628 plotter driver is designed to run on Microsoft Windows for IBM PCs
and IBM-compatible PCs.
This driver enables you to control Graphtec plotters through Windows in order
to plot (or print or cut) using software programs that run on Windows 2000/XP/
Vista/7.
This driver supports output from Graphtec's pen plotters, penless plotters,
cutting plotters, and inkjet plotters. For a complete list of compatible
Graphtec plotters, see Chapter 10, "COMPATIBLE PLOTTER MODELS".
Moreover, when using this driver, note that all of the Windows functions (such
as output of bitmapped images) may not be available due to restrictions of the
plotter functions.
2. INSTALLATION
This chapter describes how to install the plotter driver.
Notes on Installation
o To register a printer or update the driver, log on as a member of an
Administrators group.
o If an earlier version of this driver is already installed, remove it by a
Delete operation and then reboot the system before installing this plotter
driver.
o For more information, use the Help feature of Windows.

o When connecting the FC5100 or CE3000, FC3600, MP303-04, CE3000-120AP,
CE5000-120AP via USB, please read Section 2-3, "When connecting the
FC5100 or CE3000, FC3600, MP303-04, CE3000-120AP, CE5000-120AP via USB",
and install the USB driver.
For Windows 2000
(1) Boot Windows.
(2) Click the [Start] button, and then select [Settings] with the pointer.
(3) Click [Printers] to open the Printers menu.
(4) Double click the [Add Printer] icon. When the [Add Printer Wizard]
display appears, click (Next >).
(5) Select [Local printer], and confirm that the box [Automatically detect
and install my Plug and Play printer] is unchecked.
Next, click the (Next >) button.
(6) Select the printer port you will be using and then click on the
(Next >) button.
(7) Click the (Have Disk...) button.
(8) When the [Install from Disk] window appears, insert the Windows Plotter
Driver disk in the computer's disk drive.
(9) Specify the disk drive containing the disk either by typing in the
drive followed by <WIN2K_7> from the keyboard or by clicking the
(Browse...) button, then click the (OK) button.
For example, if your CD-ROM drive is D, then type
<D:\Driver\English\WIN2K_7\OEMSETUP.INF>.
(10) "Graphtec Plotter" is listed under <Printers>, so select the model you
are using.
(11) Click the (Next >) button.
(12) Decide whether or not to change the Printer Name and/or use the plotter
as the current printer, then click the (Next >) button.
(13) Select whether or not the plotter will be shared via a network, then
click the (Next >) button.
(14) Select [No] for [Print Test Page], then click the (Next >) button.
Note: If you output a test print without making this setting, output
may not be performed correctly.
(15) Click the (Finish) button to end Add Printer Wizard.
(16) The [Digital Signature Not Found] dialog box is displayed next.
Click [Yes] to continue installation.
(17) When installation is completed, the Graphtec Plotter icon appears in
the Printers window.
For Windows XP
(1) Boot Windows.
(2) When Windows starts up, click the [Start] button and choose [Control
Panel].
(3) Click [Printers and Other Hardware].
(4) Click [Printers and Faxes].
(5) Click [Add a printer] to launch the [Add Printer Wizard] and click
(Next>).
(6) Click [Local printer attached to this computer] and confirm that the
[Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer] check box
is deselected. Then click the (Next>) button.
(7) Select the printer port you want to use and click the (Next>) button.
(8) Click the (Have Disk...) button.
(9) When the [Install from Disk] window appears, insert the Windows Plotter
Driver disk in the computer's disk drive.
(10) Specify the disk drive containing the disk either by typing in the
drive followed by <WIN2K_7> from the keyboard or by clicking the
(Browse...) button, then click the (OK) button.
For example, if your CD-ROM drive is D, then type
<D:\Driver\English\WIN2K_7\OEMSETUP.INF>.
(11) Model names are listed in [Printers], so select the name of the model
you are using and click the (Next>) button.
(12) Change the [Printer name], specify whether or not to use the Graphtec
driver as the default printer, and press the (Next>) button.
(13) Select [No] for [Print Test Page], then click the (Next >) button.
Note: If you output a test print without making this setting, output
may not be performed correctly.
(14) Click the (Finish) button to end Add Printer Wizard.
(15) A [Not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with
Windows XP.] dialog box may be displayed. In that case, click the
(Continue Anyway) button to continue with your installation.
(16) When installation is completed, the Graphtec Plotter icon appears in
the [Printers and Faxes] window.
For Windows Vista
(1) Boot Windows.
(2) When Windows starts up, click the [Start] button and choose [Control
Panel].
(3) Click [Hardware and Sound].
(4) Click [Printer].
(5) Click [Add a printer] button.
(6) Click [Add a local printer].
(7) Select the port which you use from [Use an existing port], click [Next].
(8) Click [Have Disk...] button.
(9) Specify the disk drive containing the disk either by typing in the
drive followed by <WIN2K_7> from the keyboard or by clicking the
[Browse...] button, then click the [OK] button.
For example, if your disk drive is D, then type
<D:\Driver\English\WIN2K_7\OEMSETUP.INF>.
(10) Select the plotter you want to use, click [Next] button.
(11) Click [Next] button.
(12) The installation starts. Click [Install this driver software anyway].
(13) Installation of the driver software has been completed. Click [Finish].
For Windows 7
(1) Boot Windows.
(2) When Windows starts up, click the [Start] button and select [Control
Panel].
(3) Click the "View devices and printers" in the group of the "Hardware
and Sound".
(4) Click [Add a printer].
(5) Click [Add a local printer].
(6) Select the port which you use from [Use an existing port], click [Next].
(7) Click [Have Disk...] button.
(8) Specify the disk drive containing the disk either by typing in the drive
followed by <WIN2K_7> from the keyboard or by clicking the [Browse...]
button, then click the [OK] button.
For example, if your disk drive is D, then type
<D:\Driver\English\WIN2K_7\OEMSETUP.INF>.
(9) Model names are listed in [Printers], so select the name of the model
you are using and click the [Next] button.
(10) Change the [Printer name], specify whether or not to use the plotter
driver as the default printer, and click the [Next] button.
(11) The installation starts. If a "Windows Security" alert prompt appears
during the installation procedure, click [Install this driver software
anyway].
(12) Installation of the driver software has been completed. Click [Finish].
This completes the installation process.
Before using your plotter, proceed to the next chapter to configure the
plotter driver.
2-3 When Connecting the FC5100 or CE3000, FC3600, MP303-04, CE3000-120AP,
CE5000-120AP via USB
For Windows 2000
(1) Boot Windows.
(2) Connect the USB cable to the FC5100 or CE3000, FC3600, MP303-04,
CE3000-120AP, CE5000-120AP and plug the other end of the cable into the
USB port of
your computer.
(3) Turn on the power to the FC5100 or CE3000, FC3600, MP303-04, CE3000-120AP,
CE5000-120AP; [Found New Hardware Wizard] is displayed.
Click the (Next>) button.
(4) Select [Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)] and
click the (Next>) button.
(5) When [Locate Driver Files] is displayed, specify the location in which
to search for driver files and click the (Next>) button.
(6) When the system finishes searching for driver files, [Driver Files Search
Results] is displayed. Click the (Next>) button.
(7) The [Digital Signature Not Found] dialog box is displayed next.
Click [Yes] to continue installation.
(8) When the installation is completed, [Completing the Found New Hardware
Wizard] is displayed. Click the (Finish) button.
(9) When installation is completed, the Graphtec Plotter icon appears in
the Printers window.
For Windows XP
(1) Boot Windows.
(2) Connect the USB cable to the FC5100 or CE3000, FC3600, MP303-04,
CE3000-120AP, CE5000-120AP and plug the other end of the cable into the
USB port of
your computer.
(3) Turn on the power to the FC5100 or CE3000, FC3600, MP303-04, CE3000-120AP,
CE5000-120AP; [Found New Hardware Wizard] is displayed.
Select [Install the software automatically (Recommended)] and click the
(Next>) button.
(4) The [Not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with
Windows XP.] dialog box may be displayed. In that case, click the
(Continue Anyway) button to continue with your installation.
(5) When the installation is completed, [Completing the Found New Hardware
Wizard] is displayed. Click the (Finish) button.
(6) When installation is completed, the Graphtec Plotter icon appears in
the [Printers and Faxes] window.
For Windows Vista
(1) Boot Windows and set the software CD.
(2) Connect the USB cable to the FC5100 or CE3000, FC3600, MP303-04,
CE3000-120AP, CE5000-120AP and plug the other end of the cable into the
USB port of
your computer.
(3) Turn on the power to the FC5100 or CE3000, FC3600, MP303-04, CE3000-120AP,
CE5000-120AP; [Found New Hardware] is displayed.
Click [Locate and install driver software (recommended)].
(4) If the "Allow Windows to search online for driver software?" screen
will appear, click [Don't search online].
(5) The "Installing device driver software" message appears in the lower
right corner of the desktop. Do not click on this message - simply wait.
(6) The "Insert the disc" screen appears. Click [Next] button.
(7) Please select the plotter which Manufacturer is "Graphtec - English".
Click [Next].
(8) The installation starts. Click [Install this driver software anyway].
(9) Installation of the driver software has been completed. Click [Finish].
For Windows 7
(1) Boot Windows and set the software CD.
(2) Connect the USB cable to the Plotter and plug the other end of the cable
into the USB port of your computer.
Turn on the power to the Plotter.
(3) Click it when the "Installing device driver software" appeared on the
bottom right of the desktop.
(4) Click it when the "Skip obtaining driver software from Windows Update"
appeared in the Driver Software Installation dialog.
(5) Click the "Yes" when the "Do you want to skip getting driver software
from Windows Update?" appeared in the Driver Software Installation dialog.
(6) Click the "Close" to close the Driver Software Installation dialog.
(7) Click the "Start" button, and then click the "Computer" by the right
mouse button to select the "Manage".
(8) The "Computer Management" dialog will appears at left area.
Click the "Device Manager" of the console tree of
"Computer Management (Local)">"System Tools".
Select the "Other Devices" at middle area, and then click the connected
cutting plotter icon by the right mouse button to select the "Update
Driver Software".
(9) Click it when the "Browse my computer for driver software" appeared in
the Update Driver Software dialog.
(10) Click [Browse...] button.
(11) Select the folder where the driver is contained.
And then click the "OK".
For example: When the CD/DVD drive is "D:\".
Select the "D:\Driver\English\WIN2K_7\OEMSETUP.INF".
(12) The selected pass name is appeared in the "Search for driver software
in this location:".
Then, click the [Next].
(13) The installation starts. If a "Windows Security" alert prompt appears
during the installation procedure, click [Install this driver software
anyway].
(14) Update of the driver software has been completed. Click [Close].
This completes the installation process.
Before using your plotter, proceed to the next chapter to configure the
plotter driver.
3. CONFIGURING THE PLOTTER DRIVER
The configuration of the plotter driver involves selecting the communications
port, plotter type, paper size, page orientation, and options.
Be sure to choose plotter settings that match the plotter you will be using.
3-1 Selecting the Communications Port
This procedure selects the port (and interface) for use in exchanging data
with the plotter.
To use the RS-232C serial interface, select a port from COM1 through COM4.
To use a Centronics-compatible parallel interface, select either LPT1 or LPT2.
In the steps below, the [Graphtec Plotter] icon refers to the driver you
installed in the previous chapter.
(1) To enable you to make the plotter driver settings, click the [Start]
button and then select [Settings] with the pointer.
Click [Printers] to open the [Printers] menu.
If you are continuing from Chapter 2, the [Printers] menu is already
open so simply proceed to step 2.
(2) Select the [Graphtec Plotter] icon and display Properties.
(3) Click the <Ports> tab.
(4) Select the port to which the plotter is actually connected from <Print
to the following port(s)>.
Note: In order to output raster data using a penless plotter or inkjet
plotter, select LPT1: (a printer port).
(5) When all the displayed values are satisfactory, click the (OK) button
to terminate port selection.
3-2 Selecting the Paper Source
If your plotter allows you to select the paper feeding method, use this
parameter to select the Paper Source parameter.
Setting this parameter changes the plotter's Paper Size setting.
(1) Click the [Start] button and then point to [Settings].
(2) Select the [Graphtec Plotter] icon and then click [Printing Preferences].
(3) Click the Paper tab.
(4) To select the Paper Source parameter, click the down arrow in the Paper
Source box to display the Paper Source menu, then select the desired
source.
(5) When the displayed setting is satisfactory, click the (OK) button.
3-3 Selecting the Paper Size
The Paper Size parameter determines the plotter's effective plot area
according to the settings of the Paper Source, Paper Size, Margin, and Rotated
parameters.
With certain applications, changing the Paper Size setting may alter the size
of previously generated images, so be sure to set the Paper Size parameter
before creating an image.
The available Paper Size settings vary with the plotter type as described
below.
* The Plot Area of Pen Plotters and Cutting Plotters
The size of the medium can be set to ISO, DIN, ANSI, ARCH, Free Size,
User Size,
or "Specify within application".
The resulting effective plot area will consist of the respectively
specified standard size or User size, minus the margins on all four sides
of each page.
The width of the margins will vary with the settings of the Paper Source,
Margin (Normal, Enhanced, or None), and Rotated parameters.
* The Plot Area of Penless Plotters
The size of the medium can be set to ISO, Free Size, User Size, or "Specify
within application".
The resulting effective plot area will consist of the specified size
without any margins.
* The Plot Area of Inkjet Plotters
The size of the medium can be set to ISO, DIN, ANSI, ARCH, Free Size,
User Size,
or "Specify within application".
The resulting effective plot area will consist of the respectively
specified standard size or User size, minus the margins on all four sides
of each page.
The width of the margins will vary with the settings of the Paper Source,
Margin (Normal, Enhanced, or None), and Rotated parameters.
Note: "Specify within application" uses the paper size specified within an
application.
Select this option when using an application that replaces the paper
size set by the driver with one that is specified within the application.
If no paper size is specified within an application while "Specify
within application" is selected, the default value (210 mm x 297 mm) is
assumed.
Setting the Paper Size
Either click [Printing Preferences] for the driver at the [Printers] menu
under [Settings] or open the Graphtec Plotter dialog box by selecting
<Print Setup...> from the <File> menu of the Windows application.
You are now ready to select the paper size.
Unless the paper standard is set to FREE, the dimensions of the currently
selected paper size appear in the Paper Size box.
To select a different paper standard, open the Paper Size drop-down list
box and click the desired size.
If the paper standard is set to FREE, click the dot preceding mm or inch
in the Unit box (a black dot indicates the currently selected unit) and
then input the dimensions of the plot area from the keyboard.
Note: With certain Windows applications, changing the paper size setting may
alter the size of previously defined plots, and the <File> menu's
<Print Setup...>. option may have a different name.
3-4 Selecting the Page Orientation
To select the page orientation, click the dot preceding Portrait or Landscape.
A black dot indicates the currently selected page orientation.
Portrait : The page is oriented vertically
Landscape : The page is oriented horizontally
Note: Be sure to set the page orientation before you generate plot data using
a Windows application.
With certain Windows applications, changing the page orientation may
alter the orientation of previously defined plots.
3-5 Specifying the Number of Copies (Penless Plotters and Inkjet Plotters)
This function specifies the number of copies of plot data to output.
It can only be specified for plotter models equipped with the Copies function.
3-6 Setting the Unit
The numerical value display unit can be set to mm or inch.
3-7 Setting the Pen Parameters
In addition to specifying the line width and plotting speed, you can also
assign the colors available with your Windows application to your plotter's
Pen Nos.
With an inkjet plotter, if no pen parameters are specified, the image
displayed on the screen will be output to the plotter.
* Setting Procedure (Pen Plotters, Cutting Plotters, and Penless Plotters)
To assign a color to a pen number, double click the desired <Pen> number
to display the Pen Setting menu.
For each pen number, input numerals from the keyboard to specify the
<Pen> number, <Width>, and <Speed>.
<Speed> is not displayed in the case of a penless plotter.
To assign a color, click the (Color Setting...) button to display the
[Color Setting] menu.
Specify your color by combining Red, Blue, and Green.
Color assignment defines the correspondence between the screen colors
displayed by your application and the plotter's Pen Nos.
The number of colors which can be selected is around 16 million.
If you click the (Default) button, the default colors are as follows.
Try to match the colors in your application to the colors below.

specify the Pen No. you want to use.
If you want to output in black only, click the (Delete) button to delete
the pen list, then use <Plotting Unlisted Colors> to specify black for
the desired pen(s).
<Width> selects the pen which corresponds to the line width displayed by
the application.
However, the width setting takes precedence over the color setting,
and if there are two pens of the same color, the pen with the specified
width is selected.
A one-dot line on the screen corresponds to a pen width of 0.1 mm.
With penless plotters, set the line width at the plotter beforehand.
<Speed> selects the plotting speed for pen plotters and cutting plotters.
This setting is ignored by penless plotters.
If set to zero, the plotter's default speed setting takes effect.
The <Force> parameter enables the Cutting or Pen Force value to be
specified.
Please refer to your User's Manual for the range of specifiable values.
The <Quality> parameter enables the Quality (Acceleration) value to be
specified.
Please refer to your User's Manual for the range of specifiable values.
The <Force> and <Quality> values are specified in tandem, and 0 cannot be
specified for just one of the two parameters.
If both parameters are specified as 0, the settings made at the plotter
will be enabled instead.
To revise any of the preceding settings, click the (Modify) button and
then click the desired Pen No.
To add a new pen, click the (Add...) button.
To remove the pen list, click the (Delete) button.
To return the pen parameters to their default settings, click the (Reset)
button.
Note: Clicking the (Reset) button will return the pen parameters of all
the Pen Nos. to their default values.
* Setting Procedure (Inkjet Plotters)
To add a new pen, click the (Add...) button.
To remove a pen, select the target Pen No. from the list of pens then
click the (Delete) button.
To change a current setting, select and change one of the parameters on
the Pen Table and then click the (Modify) button.
At the [Pen Parameters] window, click the (Color Settings...) button to
display the [Color Settings] menu. At this menu, you can define colors
as combinations of R, G, and B (red, green, and blue).
If you check the (Disable output) box, the data of the specified screen
color will not be output.
3-8 Setting the Allowable Color Value Range
This specifies the allowable range for the specified color with respect to
the RGB values.
If the range is set to 64, for example, the RGB values of each specified
color are set with a range of +/-64 on either side of the specified color.
The color specified in <Color Setting> is searched for within this range.
If several colors are considered suitable, the one closest to the specified
color is selected.
3-9 Adjusting the Resolution of the Line Width (Pen Plotters, Cutting
Plotters, and Penless Plotters)
With many applications, even if you have changed the resolution, there is no
change to the width of the lines output.
On the other hand, there are also applications where the line widths are
changed if you change the resolution.
Use the <Line Width Adjustment> function as necessary to suit your
application.
3-10 Selecting the Chart Feed Mode
These settings are only valid if your plotter can handle roll paper.
Click the box preceding <Feed> to enable chart feed.
(Pen Plotters and Cutting Plotters)
If you select <Page>, the paper is fed to the start of the next page after
the end of every plot.
If you select <Free>, the chart feed length can be freely set.
3-11 Printing a Cut Line (GX3000 Pen Plotter)
A cut line can be plotted after each page feed operation.
3-12 Setting the Programmable Resolution (Pen Plotters and Cutting Plotters)
The programmable resolution determines the minimum distance the pen travels.
Set the resolution to the same setting selected at the plotter.
When large characters and so forth cannot be output due to a limitation of
Windows, increasing the Programmable Resolution setting may permit output.
Note: Be sure to set the programmable resolution before plotting from a
Windows application.
With certain Windows applications, changing the resolution may alter
the size of previously defined plots.
3-13 Setting the Resolution (Penless Plotters, Inkjet Plotters, and PT-5M)
The Resolution parameter determines the resolution of data to be output.
When large characters and other detailed images cannot be output due to a
limitation of Windows, increasing the Resolution setting may permit output.
* With the PT-5M, the Resolution should normally be set to 0.1mm when the
Output Method setting is Vector Only.
* With the JC9000 Series plotters, the Resolution should normally be set to
360 DPI when the Output Method setting is either Vector & Raster Overlay
or All Raster.
* With penless plotters, the Resolution should normally be set to 400 DPI
when the Output Method setting is either Vector & Raster Overlay or All
Raster.
Note: Be sure to set the programmable resolution before plotting from a
Windows application.
With certain Windows applications, changing the resolution may alter
the size of previously defined plots.
3-14 Setting the Line Pitch
This specifies the spacing between the dots and/or dashes in the four line
types (dot, dash, dash-dot, and dash-dot-dot).
If a negative value is specified, end point compensation can be performed.
End point compensation is a function which prevents a break in a line or an
end point from being printed as a white space.
This function can only be used, however, if the plotter comes with this
function.
Specifying end point compensation affects the line pitch.
Furthermore, for applications where circles and curves are output as
continuous straight lines, the distance between points is short and the
lines are output as actual lines.
End point compensation cannot be performed for this type of application.
The Line Pitch function cannot be specified if the Output Method setting
is All Raster.
3-15 Setting the Scaling Factor
The scaling data can be selected in a range of 25% to 400%.
3-16 Selecting the Output Method for TrueType Fonts
Specify TrueType font output.
For fonts other than TrueType, use the Plotter fonts.
This function cannot be specified if the Output Method setting is All Raster.
If <Plotter Font> is selected, drawings are output using the plotter fonts.
If <Output Outline> is selected, TrueType fonts are output as outlines.
If <Output TrueType> is selected, TrueType fonts are output as outlines and
solid filled.
If <Output as raster data> is selected, the characters are output as raster
images. With penless plotters and inkjet plotters, this parameter can only
be specified when the Output Method setting is Raster & Vector Overlay.
3-17 Enabling the Clipping Function (Pen Plotters, Cutting Plotters, and
Penless Plotters)
If you want to set the drawing limits from the application, click the box.
If CLIPPING is specified, a command to specify clipping is output for each
drawing.
If this is not necessary, an alternative is to reduce the amount of data
instead of specifying CLIPPING.
The Clipping function cannot be specified if the Output Method setting is
All Raster.
3-18 Enabling Data Output in Binary Format
This function only appears for plotter models that support GP-GL BINARY
commands.
If you select this option, data is output in binary format, thereby
shortening the transmission time.
3-19 Rotating an Image by 90 Degrees (Penless Plotters)
An image can be rotated by an angle of 90 degrees for plotting with either a
portrait or landscape orientation.
Note: This function cannot be selected if the command mode is set to BINARY.
3-20 Rotating an Image by 90, 180, or 270 Degrees (Pen Plotters, Cutting
Plotters, and Inkjet Plotters)
This function specifies the angle of rotation for plotting with respect to
coordinate axes selected by the [Page Orientation] setting.
0 : Output conforms to the direction specified by the [Page Orientation]
setting.
90 : The image to be output is rotated 90 degrees with respect to the
axes specified by the [Page Orientation] setting.
180 : The image to be output is rotated 180 degrees with respect to the
axes specified by the [Page Orientation] setting.
270 : The image to be output is rotated 270 degrees with respect to the
axes specified by the [Page Orientation] setting.
Note: Due to the size limitations of the paper used for output, certain
angles may not be specifiable.
3-21 Enabling Automatic Layout (Penless Plotters)
This function specifies whether or not automatic page layout will be performed
by the plotter.
It cannot be specified for a plotter that supports fill functions.
3-22 Performing Long-axis Printing (Pen Plotters, Penless Plotters, and
Inkjet Plotters)
This function allows you to consecutively and contiguously print landscape or
portrait images of the specified Paper Size.
To print an image that is long from side to side, set the orientation of
printing to Landscape.
To print an image that is long from top to bottom, set the orientation of
printing to Portrait.
Note: This parameter cannot be specified if rotation is enabled or if the
Output Method setting is Vector & Raster Overlay.
If the Windows application does not support paginated output,
it cannot perform Long-axis printing.
3-23 Setting the Offset for the Origin Point
The Offset parameter is used to offset the position of the coordinate
system's origin point.
The new origin position can be offset in 0.1-mm steps to any point within
the effective plot area.
Note: The Offset parameter cannot be specified if Long-axis printing has
been enabled.
When the Offset setting causes the size of an image to exceed the
effective plot area, its surplus area will be clipped prior to output.
3-24 Selecting the Print Quality (Inkjet Plotters)
Set the Print Quality to one of the five choices below. You may need to
produce several test printouts before achieving the optimum setting.
* For JC9x00
Draft : Printing is faster in Draft mode than in other modes.
Normal : Produces better-looking results than Draft mode
without sacrificing too much speed.
Enhanced : Provides high-quality results when printing monochrome
or color data.
Hi-Resolution : Select this mode for high-resolution monochrome
printing.
Plotter setting : Uses the plotter's current Print Quality setting.
3-25 Selecting the Media Type (JC9x00)
Set this parameter to suit the type of medium you will be using.
3-26 Selecting the Color or Mono Printing Mode (Inkjet Plotters)
The Color/Mono parameter can be set to Color for color printing or to Mono
for monochrome printing.
3-27 Selecting the Cutting Method (JC9x00)
The Cut Method parameter lets you select whether or not to automatically cut
the medium after outputting the plot data.
Note: The Cut Method parameter cannot be specified if Long-axis printing has
been enabled or if the Paper Source setting is Cut Sheet Mode.
3-28 Selecting the Print Mode (JX1130/1060)
Select the Print Mode from the choices below. You may need to produce several
test printouts before achieving the optimum setting.
Draft : Select this mode when fast printing speed is more
important than high printing quality.
Standard : This mode enables high-quality printing at a moderate
speed.
Enhanced Color 3 Pass : This mode achieves a good balance between printing
speed and image quality.
Enhanced Color 4 Pass : This mode provides the best image quality.
Draft 3 Pass : This mode enables printing of slightly lower quality,
but at a faster speed.
Plotter Setting : Uses the plotter settings.
3-29 Setting the Save Media parameter (JX1130/1060)
Specify the Save Media function when you want to reduce the amount of roll
media fed between jobs.
If Save Media is specified, the medium is not fed after output has been
completed.
If Save Media is not specified, the medium is fed the specified page size
length after output has been completed.
3-30 Setting the Media Save parameter (JX2100/2150)
Specify the Media Save function when you want to reduce the amount of roll
media fed between jobs.
If Media Save is specified, the length of the output image will be the actual
Plot Area length specified by the image data, regardless of the specified
page length.
If Media Save is not specified, the image will be output according to the
specified Plot Area.
3-31 Setting the Feed Cutting Position (JX2100/2150)
Select the feed cutting position for roll media from the choices below.
Off : After output has been completed, the roll
medium is not advanced to a cutting position.
C. Groove (Cutting Groove) : After output has been completed, the roll
medium is advanced so that it can be cut
manually along the cutting grove
C. Pen (Cutter Pen) : After output has been completed, the roll
medium is advanced so that cross cutting can
be performed by the cutter pen on top of the
cutting mat.
3-32 Selecting the Drying Time (Inkjet Plotters)
This parameter lets you select how much time to allow after outputting one
set of data and before the next set of data is output.
Note: The Drying Time parameter cannot be specified if the Paper Source
setting is Cut Sheet Mode.
3-33 Choosing the Driver as the Default Printer
When this driver is chosen as the default printer, output will be performed
using the driver's settings that were specified at the Printers folder.
This setting cannot be changed from a Windows application.
3-34 Select the Cut Line (JX1130/1060, JX2100/2150)
Specify the color, type, and width of the line(s) to be handled as a Cut Line.
Several types can be specified, but be sure to select at least one.
If the Line Type is a dotted line, a dashed line, a single-dot chain line or
a double-dot chain line, you can specify the output pitch.
Perform line end compensation when a negative value is specified.
If zero is specified, a solid line is output.
Even if a dotted line, dashed line, single-dot chain line or double-dot chain
line has been specified and is displayed on the monitor, the application may
cause it to be output as data consisting of short line segments. In this case,
the line will not be recognized as a Cut Line even if the Line Type has been
specified.
The Line Width setting will cause all lines with dot data of a lesser value
to be handled as Cut Lines.
3-35 Setting the Allowable Color Value Range for the Cut Line (JX2100/2150)
Specify the permissible range width with respect to the RGB values for the
cut line. If the range width is set to 64, for example, the RGB values will
be set respectively within a range of +/- 64, and colors which fall within
this range will be handled as cut lines.
3-36 Setting the Step Pass (JX2100/2150)
Specify the Step Pass for the cutting data.
When the cut line data consists of circle or curve data, the application
software may render this data as a series of short steps. If this happens,
the blade tip control operation will slow down the cutting speed, and the
cut line may not be smooth. To solve this problem, please increase the Step
Pass value. However, if too large a value is specified, the end result may
differ from the original shape.
3-37 Setting the Printing Cut Line (JX2100/2150)
Specify whether the color data specified for the cut line will also be used
for printing out print data.
3-38 Setting the Cutting Conditions (JX2100/2150)
Select the cutting conditions.
3-39 Selecting the Dotted Line Setting (JX2100/2150)
Selecting the dotted line settings for the Cut Line.
If None has been selected, cutting is performed at the pitch set for the
selected cut line type.
If a value from 1 to 10 has been selected, all the cut lines will become
broken lines, and will be cut at the pitch specified for the selected value.
3-40 Selecting the Output Method (Penless Plotters and Inkjet Plotters)
This function, which only appears for plotter models that can output raster
data, specifies the method for data output to the plotter.
Vector Only : Outputs only vector data.
All Raster : Converts even vector data into raster data for
output.
Vector & Raster Overlay : Outputs vector data as vector data and raster
data as raster data.
3-41 Setting the Output Modes (JX2100/2150)
Select the output mode for print and cutting data.
Print & Cut : Output print data, followed by cutting data
Print : Output print data only
Cutting : Output cutting data only
3-42 Selecting the Type of Data to Be Transferred (Penless Plotters)
This function, which only appears for plotter models that can output raster
data, specifies the compression method for transferring raster data to the
plotter.
The PCX setting is the best choice for transferring color data or half-tone
data. The Graphtec setting works best for transferring the data of monochrome
line drawings, such as CAD drawings or text data.
3-43 Selecting the Dithering Mode (Penless Plotters and Inkjet Plotters)
This function, which only appears for plotter models that can output raster
data, specifies the mode for expressing half-tones.
None : Disables half-tone processing by dithering. When you
want dithering to be processed by your software
application, choose this setting for better output
results.
Coarse : Outputs a coarse dithering pattern.
Fine : Outputs a fine dithering pattern.
Error Diffusion : Outputs a dithering pattern using the error diffusion
method.
3-44 Selecting the Driver's Application (Penless Plotters and Inkjet Plotters)
This parameter only appears for plotter models that can output raster data.
The driver's application can be set to CAD/TEXT or PHOTO/CG.
Select CAD/TEXT when outputting CAD drawings, text data, and other line-based
images.
Select PHOTO/CG when outputting photographs, computer graphics data, and
other high-density images.
3-45 Selecting the Size of Memory for Processing Raster Data (Penless
Plotters and Inkjet Plotters)
This parameter only appears for plotter models that can output raster data.
It determines how much of the computer's memory will be used by the driver to
process raster data.
1 : No more than 16 Mbytes of memory is installed
2 : About 32 Mbytes of memory is installed
3 : About 48 Mbytes of memory is installed
4 : About 64 Mbytes of memory is installed
5 : About 96 Mbytes of memory is installed
6 : At least 128 Mbytes of memory is installed
3-46 Selecting Colors for Monochrome Bit-Mapping (Penless Plotters and
Inkjet Plotters)
This parameter only appears for plotter models that can output raster data.
It lets you assign two colors (such as black and white) as the foreground and
background colors for the output of monochrome bit-mapped images.
3-47 Outputting Vector Data as Half-Tones (Penless Plotters and Inkjet
Plotters)
This parameter only appears for plotter models that can output raster data.
When outputting vector data using monochrome raster data, you can output
intermediate shades using half-tones.
With the JC9x00, this function can be used even when the Output Method
setting is Vector Only.
3-48 Emphasizing Lines of One-Dot Width (Penless Plotters and Inkjet Plotters)
This parameter only appears for plotter models that can output raster data.
When outputting vector data using raster data, this function lets you output
lines of one-dot width as lines of two-dot width.
This function is useful when thin lines in intermediate shades cannot be
output by usual methods.
3-49 Enabling the Gradation of Line Output (JC9x00)
This parameter allows you to select whether or not to print vectors using a
gray scale when outputting monochrome vector data. Thin lines of intermediate
shades may not be printed when their tones are converted to the gray scale.
When selected, line shading is enabled and monochrome vector printing will be
based on the gray scale.
When not selected, vector data will be printed using a single shade of black.
3-50 Printing of Registration Marks (JX2100/2150)
Specify whether to print Registration Marks.
3-51 Aligning of Registration Marks (JX1130/1060)
Performs Registration Mark Alignment.
The plotter goes into the 'Align the Coordinate Axes' setting mode. Make the
appropriate settings at the plotter.
3-52 Selecting the type of Ink (JX2100/2150)
Select the type of ink to be used.
3-53 Adjusting the Definition of Colors (JC9x00, JX2100/2150)
This parameter selects the method for adjusting the definition of colors.
* For JC9x00
Use driver for color adjustment : Color definitions are adjusted according
to the driver's internal color table.
No color adjustment : Color adjustment is not performed.
* For JX2100/2150
The items that can be selected will depend on whether Color or Monochrome
has been selected.
When Color has been selected.

3-57 Selecting the Number of Printing Passes (JX2100/2150)
Select the Number of Printing Passes.
The Number of Printing Passes that can be selected varies slightly according
to the Print Quality Mode and the Print Settings File.
3-58 Selecting the Luminance Level (Penless Plotters and Inkjet Plotters)
The Luminance parameter determines the light intensity of bright areas.
3-59 Selecting the Contrast Level (Penless Plotters and Inkjet Plotters)
The Contrast parameter determines the different between an image's bright
and dark areas.
3-60 Selecting the Brightness Level (Penless Plotters and Inkjet Plotters)
The Brightness parameter determines the overall brightness level of images.
3-61 Selecting the Saturation Level (Penless Plotters and Inkjet Plotters)
The Saturation parameter determines the coloration of intermediate shades.
3-62 Selecting How to Output the Color Black (Inkjet Plotters)
This parameter lets you select which ink colors to use when outputting the
color black.
Changing this setting alters the ratio of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black
inks used.
3-63 Selecting the Color Black's Intensity (Inkjet Plotters)
This parameter lets you raise or lower the intensity of the black component
of printed results.
3-64 Finely Adjusting the Output Colors (Inkjet Plotters)
Use this feature to fine-tune your definition of colors to be output.
* Setting Procedure
Under Ink, select the ink color to be adjusted. When all colors are
selected, all colors will be changed concurrently.
Input the output ink volume, as a numeric value, corresponding to each
color that is input. A waveform appears that permits the specified value
to pass through it and thus indicates the output volume corresponding to
the input of each color.
The waveform changes whenever a numeric value is input.
Input values of 0% or 100% cannot be deleted.
3-65 Registering the Driver's Settings in a File
All of the settings for this plotter driver can be saved in a file.
Note: The communications port setting cannot be saved.
By loading this file by a driver installed in another computer, you can
immediately use the same settings.
(1) Click [Printing Preferences] for the driver at the [Printers] menu under
[Settings].
(2) Click the (Register...) button to display the [Register] menu.
(3) Click the (Save As...) button to open the dialogue box for entering the
filename, then input the desired filename and click the (OK) button.
(4) Click the (Close) button to complete the operation.
Settings that have been saved in a file can be loaded as follows:
(1) Click [Printing Preferences] for the driver at the [Printers] menu under
[Settings].
(2) Click the (Register...) button to display the [Register] menu.
(3) Click the (Open...) button to open the dialogue box for selecting the
filename, then select the desired filename and click the (OK) button.
(4) Click the (Close) button to complete the operation.
4. CONFIGURING THE COMMUNICATIONS PORT
If the plotter and computer are connected via the RS-232C serial interface,
it is necessary to set the interface parameters for data transfer.
Using the procedure described in this chapter, select the same settings for the
computer's serial port that you have set at your plotter.
Unless the interface settings match at both the plotter and computer, data
cannot be properly transmitted.
(1) Click the [Start] button and select [Settings] with the pointer.
Click [Printers] to open the [Printers] menu.
(2) Click the [Graphtec Plotter] icon to display [Properties].
(3) Click the <Ports> tab and then click the (Configure Ports...) button.
(4) The [Port Properties] screen is displayed. Set the transmission
conditions for <Bits per second>, <Data bits>, <Parity>, <Stop bits>,
and <Flow control>.
(5) When all the settings have been made, click the (OK) button.
5. HOW TO PERFORM OUTPUT FROM APPLICATION SOFTWARE
(1) Install and configure the plotter driver as described in the preceding
chapters.
(2) Boot a Windows application.
(3) To confirm that the plotter driver is correctly installed, select the
[Print Setup...] menu from the [File] menu of your Windows application.
If the settings are OK, click the (OK) button.
(4) Generate the plot data using the Windows application.
(5) When you have finished, click the <Print...> option on your <File> menu.
(6) The "Printing" message appears and the plot data is sent to the plotter
where it is plotted.
(7) If you selected <FILE> as the communications port, the [Print to File]
box appears.
Input the drive, directory, and filename of the output file.
When you click the (OK) button, an output file is generated.
Note: With certain Windows applications, the [File] Menu's [Print Setup...]
and [Print...] menus may have different names.
6. NOTES ON USE
(1) This driver allows you to select one of three data output methods
according to the plotter model: Vector Only, All Raster, Vector & Raster
Overlay. To output pasted data or bitmap data, be sure to select raster
output. (Pen plotters and cutting plotters can only output vector data.)
(2) When outputting vector data using a pen, cutting, or penless plotter,
even if the Windows applications can display opaque lines and planes
that obscure the graphics underneath, they will be plotted as
transparent graphics.
(3) When using paint or draw applications with pen and cutting plotters,
the background may be solid-filled or the same characters or lines may
be plotted repeatedly at the same position.
(4) Certain Windows applications cannot use the plotter's internal fonts and
will send character data to the plotter as a set of vector data.
In this case, the pen plotter generates characters by a filling
operation with the pen in lowered status, so the plotting speed slows
down.
(5) Configure the plotter driver (resolution, paper size, etc.) before you
generate plot data using a Windows application.
With certain applications, changing the settings may alter the size of
previously defined plots.
(6) Even after changing the driver's settings from a software application,
your new settings may not always take effect. If this happens, change
the driver's settings from the Printer folder.
(7) When outputting vector data using a pen plotter, cutting plotter, or
penless plotter, when an image displayed by a Windows application has
been revised by painting it over with white, the plotter may output the
plot without the revision.
If a solid-fill white background is selected, the entire page may become
filled with color, as the pen which has been assigned to "white" will
plot the background.
(8) Even if the BINARY command mode is enabled from your software
application, it may not be possible to specify multiple copies for the
[Copies] function. In such case, change the setting at the Printer
folder.
(9) If the Resolution setting is too low, hatched or filled figures
(characters) may not be output due to the limited buffer capacity of
the plotter.
(10) When using a penless plotter to output raster data in conjunction with
the [Copies] function, the [Layout] function cannot be used unless
optional memory has been mounted in the plotter to permit use of frame
memory.
(11) When using optional memory as segment memory with a TM1xxx series
plotter, if you wish to use the driver's Layout function while
outputting raster data, be sure to disable the plotter's layout
function.
(12) When the Output Method setting is Vector & Raster Overlay, images may
not be output or images with filling or gradations may overflow the
plotter's memory capacity. In such cases, try changing the Output
Method setting to All Raster and then try again.
(13) When using a penless plotter with certain applications, the plotter
may generate a timeout error during the output of a large volume of
data, thus preventing the normal termination of output. If this
happens, increase the plotter's Timeout Interval and then try again.
For details about the Timeout Interval parameter, refer to your
plotter's USER'S MANUAL.
(14) When using the JC9000/9100 plotter, it is recommended that you set the
plotter's Emulation parameter to HP RTL.
When outputting data via this driver, the Emulation setting of HP RTL
enables you to shorten the output time.
In this case, be sure to also set the Pen Table parameter to Software.
(15) Pen plotters and cutting plotters do not support the output of
bit-mapped images.
(16) Even if you use outlining to widen characters in a TrueType font for
output, the output characters will not be wider.
(17) When using this plotter driver in a network environment, it may not
operate properly if the server name and printer name consist of more
than 31 characters.
(18) When using raster data to perform Long-axis printing, the maximum length
of the entire plot is about 4.6 meters.
(19) Penless plotters and inkjet plotters may not produce normal output
results when outputting with a low Resolution setting combined with an
Output Method setting of either Vector & Raster Overlay or All Raster.
Normally, perform output using the default Resolution setting.
(20) When performing output with an Output Method setting of All Raster
together with an Application setting of CAD/TEXT, certain figures may
not be output or the output results may differ from what was displayed
on the computer's screen. If this happens, changing the Application
setting to PHOTO/CG may provide proper output results.
(21) If the Printer name is changed, all the settings are returned to their
default values.
(22) For output after use ICC profiles for bitmap data only with the JX21x0,
if the bitmap data and vector data overlap, colors may not be processed
correctly.
(23) When using this driver to specify the cutting force for the FC3600,
please note that the values that can be set differ according to whether
the setting is for a pen or a tool. Refer to your plotter user's manual
for the appropriate values before making the setting.
(24) If you wish to specify the cutting force separately for the X and Y
axes, please make the settings at the plotter control panel. At this
time, make sure that no cutting force or quality settings have been
specified with the software.
7. NOTES ON USING APPLICATION SOFTWARE
(1) AutoCAD
o Whenever AutoCAD is booted, the settings specified at the Printer
folder's "Printing Preferences" will be read.
o Any changes to OPS628 settings made within AutoCAD become invalid after
output has been performed once.
o Plotter fonts are not output in AutoCAD even if output has been
specified.
AutoCAD's own fonts are always output.
(2) AutoCAD LT
o Whenever AutoCAD LT is booted, the settings specified at the Printer
folder's "Printing Preferences" will be read.
o Any changes made to OPS628 settings within AutoCAD LT become invalid
after output has been performed once.
(3) AutoCad LT97, R14
o AutoCad employs special fonts which are output as images. Even if you
select the "Use the plotter's fonts" option at this driver, therefore,
AutoCad will not perform output using the plotter's fonts.
(4) Auto Sketch
o If the plot data defining a circle or arc specifies any coordinate point
outside of the effective plotting area, that circle or arc will not be
properly output.
o With pen plotters, cutting plotters, and certain penless plotters
(TM1300, 1220, and 1x30), when you try to use vectors that are not
extremely thin in order to print circles or rectangles, they may be
output as solid-fill figures.
o When outputting a TrueType font, adjacent characters may overlap.
(5) Microsoft Word
o To use the settings specified at the [Paper Size] menu, set the desired
width and length at the Free Size settings of the target driver at the
Printer folder. Unless these settings are performed, the resulting output
will be clipped to A4 size.
o With pen plotters or cutting plotters, dotted or broken lines are not
output.
o With pen plotters or cutting plotters, the data file will not be
properly output when solid-filling of a figure is specified.
o When data is output in All Raster mode, semi-transparent figures may not
be output.
o When data is output in Vector Only mode or Raster & Vector Overlay mode,
fill patterns may not be properly output.
(6) Microsoft Excel
o With pen plotters and cutting plotters, solid-fill patterns may not be
properly output.
o If the Print Quality parameter is left blank in the Page Layout menu,
images will not be output according to their specified sizes.
o The settings specified at the Print menu's Printer Settings tab do not
affect the plotter's output.
o When setting the parameters on the Page Layout menu, specify the Option
parameter first.
o When the Programmable Resolution or Resolution is set to 0.05mm or
0.025 mm and the Output Method setting is Vector & Raster Overlay or
All Raster, ruled lines may be not be output in the color specified.
o When the Programmable Resolution setting is 0.2 mm and the Windows
application is using fonts other than TrueType fonts, such fonts may
not be properly output.
(7) Microsoft Power Point
o When outputting vector data using a pen plotter, cutting plotter, or
penless plotter, solid-fill figures can be output by checking the
[Monochrome printing] box in the Print window.
o When outputting vector data, the frame around certain data, such as a
bit-mapped image that was pasted into your file, may not be output at
the correct position.
o When data is output in All Raster mode, character shadows may not be
output.
o When data is output in Vector Only mode or Raster & Vector Overlay mode,
fill patterns may not be properly output.
o In Vector Only or Raster & Vector Overlay mode, gradation may not be
properly output.
(8) MICROGRAFX DESIGNER
o The size of the maximum plot area is limited by the Resolution and
Programmable Resolution settings. Data that defines a point outside of
the effective plot area will not be properly output.

o When a bit-mapped image has been pasted into a file and output, it may
not be output.
o When rotated TrueType font characters are output to a pen plotter or a
cutting plotter, such plotters will not output them correctly.
Even with a penless plotter or inkjet plotter, rotated TrueType font
characters will not be correctly output if the Output Method setting is
Vector Only.
(9) Corel DRAW
o When using the [All Raster] setting for inkjet or penless plotters,
fine diagonal lines may be output as dotted lines instead of as
unbroken lines.
o When the Output Method setting is All Raster, some images may not be
output. In such case, select [Rasterize entire page(DPI)] in the Misc tab
of Print dialog.
(10)Illustrator 8
o If your plotter is capable is outputting raster data, select
[All Raster ] or [Vector & Raster Overlay] for printing.
Printing cannot be performed with the [Vector Only] setting.
Printing cannot be performed by pen plotters or cutting plotters.
(11)Illustrator 10
o If you select Landscape as the page orientation, the page margins and
printing direction will not be set correctly.
(12)Illustrator CS/CS2/CS3
o When you select the [Plotter Font], text may be not properly output.
8. PARAMETER RANGES AND ERROR MESSAGES
(PEN PLOTTERS, CUTTING PLOTTERS, AND PENLESS PLOTTERS)
8-1 The Plot Area Parameter
(1) If the FREE paper size is selected

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
