Identification This BIOS can be installed on a MS-7173R motherboard, part number 4006109R. Installation The BIOS should be flashed if: 1. You are updating to a newer BIOS revision. 2. A technician has told you to flash or re-flash the computer. Note: Please verify the CD burner software that you have on your computer before using the bootable CD options below. Steps to flash or re-flash the computer using a CD burner drive: 1. Use your burning software to Burn Disc Image of the C:\Cabs\9539601\9539601.ISO file to a blank CD. 2. After creating the bootable CD, place the CD in the CD/DVD drive, and then restart the computer. 3. At the Menu, select 1 for Gateway BIOS W7173AG2.10U. The BIOS flash process runs automatically. Do not press any keys or turn off the computer during this process. 4. When the flash is complete, the computer automatically restarts. 5. Press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility. 6. In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Load Optimized Defaults, and then press the ENTER key. 7. Press the Y key, and then press ENTER to select Load Optimized Defaults. 8. In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Save & Exit Setup, and then press ENTER. 9. Press Y, and then press ENTER to Save to BIOS and EXIT. Steps to flash or re-flash the computer using a floppy disk drive or bootable USB flash drive: 1. Copy all of the BIOS files except 9539601.ISO from the C:\Cabs\9539601 folder to a blank floppy disk or a USB flash drive. 2. Restart the computer with the floppy disk inserted/USB flash drive plugged in. 3. At the menu, select 1 for Gateway BIOS W7173AG2.10U. The BIOS flash process runs automatically. Do not press any keys or turn off the computer during this process. 4. When complete the message "Flashing Complete" would be flashing, remove boot media used and hit <F1>. 5. Press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility. 6. In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Load Optimized Defaults, and then press the ENTER key. 7. Press the Y key, and then press ENTER to select Load Optimized Defaults. 8. In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Save & Exit Setup, and then press ENTER. 9. Press Y, and then press ENTER to Save to BIOS and EXIT. Removal Because a computer must have a BIOS to operate, there is no removal process. The BIOS cannot be removed after it has been upgraded. Troubleshooting If you have trouble flashing the BIOS, try the process again following the steps listed in the Installation section of this document. If you are still unable to flash the BIOS, verify that you are actually attempting to flash the BIOS on an MS-7173R motherboard. If this process still fails, contact technical support. Reason for Update This BIOS fixes the pausing / lockups in Windows XP. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
