Overview

This is the basic Gateway OEM Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000, and Windows XP driver for the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy sound card.


Identification

In Windows 2000 and Windows XP

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance. 

3.  In Performance and Maintenance, click the System icon. 

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, double-click Sound, video and game controllers.  

6.  If Creative SB Audigy is listed under Sound, video and game controllers, this is the correct driver.

In Windows 98 SE

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager tab.

4.  On the Device Manager tab, double-click Sound, video and game controllers.  

5.  If Creative SB Audigy is listed under Sound, video and game controllers, this is the correct driver.


Installation 

Download the file to the desktop, and then perform the following steps.

1.  On your screen, double-click the 7513081.exe file. 

2.  The Win-Zip Self-Extractor window opens and unzips the files to the C:\Cabs\7513081 folder.  

3.  Close all open programs.

4.  From the Start menu, click Run.  In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\7513081\Audigy.exe.  Click OK.

5.  In the Gateway Installer dialog box, click Begin to start the installation.

6.  The installation may prompt you for the Windows CD, if so, place the CD in the drive, and then click OK.

7.  When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.


Windows 98SE, Windows 2000, and Windows XP Removal

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  Or from the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.

3.  In the Add or Remove Programs window, select Sound Blaster Audigy, and then click Change/Remove.

4.  In the Install Wizard dialog box, select Remove, and then click Next.

5.  In the Confirm Uninstall dialog box, click OK.

6.  After removal is complete, click Finish to restart the computer.


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulty during or after driver installation, perform the following troubleshooting steps. 

1.  Ensure that all cables are securely connected.  

2.  Ensure that the sound card is fully seated in the PCI expansion slot.

3.  Remove the driver, following the removal procedure in this document, and then reinstall the driver, following the installation procedure in this document.


Reason for Update

This is the latest Gateway-supported basic driver for the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy sound card.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
