3. Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions --------------------------------------
Note the following limitations when using this software.
- In order to install the printer driver, you must log into the system as
an Administrator.
- Before installing this software, be sure to check the following.
1. Close any application software running on your computer.
2. If a document is being printed, either stop printing or wait for printing to end.
3. Close all printer driver dialog boxes.
- If the software application supports print copies, you can set up with either
the application software or the printer driver.
- When setting scaling with an application, make sure the printer driver scaling
is set to 100%.
- Some applications feature a function for collating. Do not use this function
when Page Layout Printing is selected in Page Layout in the Layout sheet.
If you do, the layout may not be correct.
- When using scaling function, an error occurring from the difference
between the degree of scaling and resolution may cause lines and other
distortions to appear in the printout.
- When printing reduced scaling color image data, 1 dot wide lines and points
may not be printed.
- Some applications may not print lines with almost horizontal angles correctly.
If this occurs, redraw lines horizontally.
- Immediately after installing the printer driver (including new editions),
some application software may not be able to recognize new functions.
Select Print in the File menu of all application software with a printer function,
and then select the name of the printer you're using, and click the Properties button.
When the Properties dialog box opens, click the OK button to close.
- When binder printing with the Microsoft Binder, click off the check box
for executing binder printing as one job. Each print job will be processed
as a separate print job.
- When a watermark is specified with too many letters, or with letters
in very large font sizes, the watermark may not print.
- Watermark text including F040 and up of external characters will not
be printed.
- For some applications, watermarks may print incorrectly for the first printing.
- If you change the printer name in the General sheet of the printer driver's
Properties dialog box, Profiles registered in the print driver become ineffective,
so store your customized settings in a file before changing the printer name.
After changing the printer name, load the stored file.
- High resolution printing requires a large amount of computer memory.
If there is very little computer memory available or you are using a large
amount of application software, the application software may not operate normally.
In this event, restart Windows and shut down any applications that are not
being used when restarting printing.
If printing still does not proceed normally, select a lower resolution in the
Print Quality setting in the Main sheet.
- With a local connection, if Enable bidirectional support in the Port sheet
of the printer driver's Properties dialog box has no check mark,
printer information and device information cannot be obtained normally.
- When performing background printing with Microsoft Word 98, do not
change the printer's resolution setting. If you do, Windows operation may
become unstable.
- When using a printer connected with USB, do not use Standby mode.
You can set Standby mode in Power Options in Control Panel.
- With Microsoft Excel, when Collate has a check mark and you perform
multiple sheet printing or Entire workbook printing with different
printing settings for each sheet, if you perform Page Layout Printing,
the results may not be those intended.
- When Novell Client for Windows NT/2000 Ver. 4.71 is used
in a NetWare environment, in the Port sheet of the printer driver's Properties
dialog box, the Port selection and display may not be correct. However,
the print job executes normally.
- When Novell Client for Windows NT/2000 Ver. 4.71 is used
in a NetWare environment, the printer driver cannot be installed with
the NetWare Printer Manager. Nor can a printer driver downloaded
by the Netware Administrator be installed. Install the printer driver using
Add Printer or the Canon Installer.
- When using the installer in a NetWare environment, normal installation
may not be possible. If this occurs, after deleting the old driver,
install the printer driver from Add Printer.
- In a NetWare environment, “Canon imagePROGRAF Preview” will not operate
properly. Try opening the Special Settings dialog box in the Layout sheet
and checking Enable Preview Switching.
- When there is a large volume of print data, the printer may time out during
printing and printing may not be possible. If this occurs,
open the Advanced sheet in the printer driver Properties dialog box and
tick the Start printing after last page is spooled checkbox in Spool print
documents so program finishes printing faster.
- Thin line, gradation etc. printing may not be possible. If this occurs,
open the printer driver's Properties dialog box from Print in the application
software's File menu, and try printing following the steps below.
1. Remove the check from Open Preview When Print Job Starts in the
Main sheet.
2. Remove the check from Page Layout in the Layout sheet.
3. Click the Special Settings button in the Layout sheet to open
the Special Settings dialog box, and remove the check from
Fast Graphic Process.
- When there is a large volume of print data, the printer may take time out
during printing, and printing may not be possible. If this occurs, extending
the Job Time Out set time with the printer's operation panel may enable printing.
- You may not be able to print data for large size media with
Adobe Illustrator and other software. If this occurs, try printing
after performing the following.
- Open the Main sheet and untick the Open Preview checkbox.
- Open the Layout sheet, click the Special Settings button and untick
the Fast Graphic Process checkbox.
- Increase the amount of memory allotted to virtual memory.
- Set to Service Pack 4 when using Windows 2000.
- Place or remove a check from the ON/OFF check box in Bitmap Printing
in the Print dialog box when using Adobe Illustrator.
- When installing this software from the installer, if you fail to follow the screen
instruction to restart your computer, Microsoft Office may operate incorrectly.
If this occurs, restart your computer.
- To switch the units display between inches (US) and mm (Metric)
for the Media Size settings and other displays, in the menu for
the Regional Options in the OS control panel, select Input Locales.
- If you are using NDS (Novell Directory Services) in a NetWare environment,
or using NDPS (Novell Distributed Print Services), then install
the printer driver from the Add Printer icon. The printer driver may not
install correctly using the installer.
- If one printer is used with both USB and network connection, please install
the Canon Status Monitor.
- For some applications, when using functions such as Scaling,
N Pages per Sheet, and Edging, output with graphics data may diverge
from the original.
- Color settings dialog box can be performed for each object. However,
with some software applications the print results may not be what you
expect after text and graphic data handling.
- When printing data that includes an extremely large image from a computer
with little available memory or from Windows 2000, it may take time to print,
a portion of the image may be missing, or it may otherwise not print properly.
If this occurs, try printing after performing the following.
- Print from Windows 7/Vista/XP.
- Open the Layout sheet and click the Special Settings button. Then untick
the Fast Graphic Process checkbox.
- Increase the amount of memory allotted to your computer.
- Increase your OS's virtual memory.
- When the printer is shared in a network environment and the operation
systems of a server and a client computer are both Windows 2000,
you may not be able to print correctly using Custom Media Size Name
defined from the client computer.
In this case, you may be able to print if you click the Enable advanced
printing features check box off on the Advanced sheet on the Properties
dialog box in the printer driver.
- Do not change the Print Processor setting
in the Advanced sheet in the printer driver's Properties dialog box.
The following functions will not operate correctly if the setting is changed:
-The Edit Using PosterArtist and Free Layout functions under Page Layout
on the Layout sheet
-The "Canon imagePROGRAF Preview" function
- The Edit Using PosterArtist and Free Layout functions under
Page Layout on the Layout sheet and the "Canon imagePROGRAF Preview"
function cannot be used in the following cases:
-When Pause Printing is selected after right-clicking the printer icon
during a print job
-When Use Printer Offline is selected after right-clicking the printer
icon during a print job
-At any time other than the time selected with Available from/To on
the Advanced sheet of the printer properties dialog
-When Enable advanced printing features is switched off on
the Advanced sheet of the printer properties dialog during a print job
-When Print directly to the printer is enabled on the Advanced sheet
of the printer properties dialog during a print job
-When FILE: is selected as the printer port on the Ports sheet of
the printer properties dialog
-When Output to File is selected in the Print dialog box of
the application software during a print job
- The Edit Using PosterArtist and Free Layout functions under Page Layout
on the Layout sheet do not operate in the following cases:
- When printing with software applications such as Adobe Photoshop LE,
Microsoft Photo Editor, AceDraw and other such applications that forbid
EMF spooling.
- If you install Point and Print, the Edit Using PosterArtist and Free Layout
functions under Page Layout on the Layout sheet and the
"Canon imagePROGRAF Preview" function cannot be used.
- To print AdobeRGB color space images using Digital Photo Professional
provided with our digital camera, use the imagePROGRAF Print Plug-in
in order to apply the imagePROGRAF color reproduction sufficiently over
a wide area. However, in some cases the colors may not come out
as you expect if you use imagePROGRAF Printer Driver 2009 to perform
sRGB color space printing.
- If you used Photoshop for printing, tone jump may occur in the gradation
of monochrome photographs.
- In the printer properties, when Free Layout or Edit with PosterArtist is set,
you cannot print with imagePROGRAF Print Plug-In.
Do not set Free Layout or Edit with PosterArtist in the printer properties.
- If you are using Windows 7/Vista/XP/Server 2003, 2008 and have set
Free Layout or Edit with PosterArtist to perform printing, do not print using
another driver.
- Stamps and page borders may not be printed correctly when the following
Print Quality settings are combined with large paper sizes:
- The installer does not support Unicode. The installer may not operate
correctly if Unicode is used for a printer's or shared printer's name.
If the installer does not operate correctly, try the following.
- Change the printer name.
- Install the printer driver from Add Printer.
- Images may not print centered in the middle if you have checked the box
for Center Image in the print preview window and have performed printing
with Photoshop CS3. If you are unable to print, click the Page Setup button
in the Photoshop print preview window, and print after making print settings.
- Data created with Microsoft Word may not print properly when printing with
Enlarged/Reduced Printing. If it does not print properly, select
Enlarged/Reduced Printing from the Page Setup sheet for the printer driver,
and then close the Print dialog box without proceeding to print. Open the
printer driver settings window once more, close it with OK, and then
proceed to print.
- In “Canon imagePROGRAF Preview”, text, fine lines, etc. as displayed in
the view screen display may differ from print results. In this instance,
try opening the Special Settings dialog box in the Layout sheet and checking
Enable Preview Switching.
