1. Introduction ---------------------------------------------------------------

You can use this program to update the printer firmware version.

2. Operation Environment ------------------------------------------------------

Use this program with the systems and the operating environments below.

  Software:   Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit edition, English Edition
              Microsoft Windows Server 2008 64-bit edition, English Edition
              Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit edition, English Edition
              Microsoft Windows Server 2003 64-bit edition, English Edition
              Microsoft Windows XP Professional 64-bit edition, English Edition

  Hardware:   Any computer running the software listed above.

  Printers:   This program is intended for use with the following printers.

              Canon Large Format Printer W8400 (Dye Ink Model) 
              Canon Large Format Printer W8400 (Pigment Ink Model) 
              Canon Large Format Printer W6400 (Dye Ink Model) 
              Canon Large Format Printer W6400 (Pigment Ink Model) 
              Canon imagePROGRAF series
              (Some printer models are available in the limited countries or areas.)

 Interface Connectivity:
  The printer and computer where this program is executed must be connected 
  with either of the following methods.

  - Connected via a TCP/IP network and capable of printing via the network.
  - Connected via a USB or IEEE 1394 port cable and capable of printing 
    as a local printer.

  Note: If you are using IEEE1394, IEEE1394 Class Driver is needed.

3. Version Update Method ------------------------------------------------------

(1) Switch the printer on.
(2) When you have downloaded the file, decompress it on your computer hard disk.
(3) Execute the setup file. The imagePROGRAF Firmware Update Tool is installed.
(4) From the Start menu, select Programs to execute imagePROGRAF Firmware Update Tool.

4. Precautions for Use --------------------------------------------------------

The following limitations apply to the use of this program. 
Before using the program, make sure that you understand these limitations.

* You must log into Windows as an Administrator before the installation.

* Before you start the firmware version update program, close any other applications 
   that are running.

* Do not try to use the printer while the firmware version update program is running. 
   If a print job is executing, cancel the print job or wait for the job to finish 
   before you execute the version update program.

* Never switch off the target printer while the firmware version update program is running.

* If the firmware version update fails while writing to the flash ROM, 
   you may not be able to start the printer. In this case, 
   contact a Canon service center or the dealer where you purchased the printer.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
