3. Some General Tips on Usage

o Depending on the application you use, you may experience an out-of-memory
error or similar error during scanning, or you may notice a reduction in
scanning speed when you are scanning a large number of images or an
especially large image. Also, the operation system may not operate correctly.
In this case, follow these guidelines:

(1) Ensure that you have sufficient storage space on your hard
disk by deleting unneeded files, or by adding an additional
     hard disk to your system.
(2) Scan the images at a lower resolution setting.
(3) Add memory (RAM) to your system.
(4) Set the virtual memory setting for the largest possible
     setting allowed by your system.
(5) Divide originals into several sets and then scan them separately.

o Always close the Color Network ScanGear main window before you exit the
  parent application program.

o If system resources diminish while using Color Network ScanGear,
the Color Network ScanGear main window display may become corrupted.

o The number of pixels displayed in the Color Network ScanGear main window may
differ slightly from the number of pixels displayed in the parent
  application program.

o With some applications the Color Network ScanGear main window or the dialog
box showing the scanning progress may cover the messages displayed by the
parent application program in the background and it may appear that scanning
or acquisition by the parent application program has been interrupted. In
this case, click the parent application program window to bring the windows
  to the foreground.

o When installing or uninstalling Color Network ScanGear, it is necessary to
log in as Administrator. Users other than Administrator cannot install or
  uninstall this driver.

o When a Restricted User uses Color Network ScanGear, install Color Network
ScanGear in the folder where the Restricted User can overwrite.

o If you are using an operating system equipped with Windows Firewall and have
enabled the Windows Firewall settings, to use the Network ScanGear driver,
click the [Exceptions] tab in the [Windows Firewall] dialog box -> click
[Add Program] -> add the application you want to use for scanning.

o If you are using an operating system equipped with Windows Firewall and have
enabled the Windows Firewall settings, to use the ScanGear Tool, click the
[Exceptions] tab in the [Windows Firewall] dialog box -> click [Add Program]
-> add the ScanGear Tool (SgTool.exe). If you use the ScanGear Tool without
adding it to Windows Firewall exceptions, an alarm message may be displayed.

o If you are scanning with the following combination of settings, part of the
  image may not be scanned.
  - In Acrobat 7, selecting [Create PDF] - [From Scanner] from the [File] menu,
then selecting [Recognize Text Using OCR] in the [Create PDF from Scanner]
    dialog box.
  - In Color Network ScanGear, selecting [Auto-color Select], [Full Color], or
    [Grayscale] for [Color Mode].

When scanning using OCR, deselect [Recognize Text Using OCR] in the [Create
PDF from Scanner] dialog box, and select [Recognize Text Using OCR] -
[Start] from the [Document] menu after scanning.

o Depending on the printer model you are using, the scanned image may be larger
than the page size you have specified.

o Depending on the printer model you are using, the scanned image may not match
the page size you have specified, resulting in blank space on one or more
  edges.

o Depending on the printer model you are using, you may not be able to specify
  the scanning area.

o If the fonts required by the display language you have selected are not
installed in the operating system you are using, this software may not display
  correctly.

o An error may occur in Microsoft Office 2003/2007, if you executing scanning by
selecting [Picture] - [From Scanner or Camera] from the [Insert] menu to open
the [Insert Picture from Scanner or Camera] dialog box, and click the [Insert]
button. If this happens, use the [Custom Insert] button instead of the
  [Insert] button.

o Depending on the printer model you are using, you may not be able to specify
