Overview

This document describes the steps necessary to install and configure the integrated Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000 Gateway/Calexico 2 network card driver, version 9.0.1.9, and Intel PROSet, version 8.0, for the notebook computer models listed in the Applicable Part Numbers section below.  


Identification

If you have a Gateway notebook computer model listed in the Applicable Part Numbers section below with a Calexico 2 wireless solution and are running Windows XP or Windows 2000, install these drivers.  

To determine if you have a Calexico 2 wireless solution, follow these steps:

Identification in Windows 2000

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, double-click Network adapters.

5.  Under the Network adapters category, if Intel(r) PRO/Wireless 2200 is listed, this is the correct driver.

Identification in Windows XP

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.

3.  In Performance and Maintenance, click System.

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, double-click Network adapters.

6.  Under the Network adapters category, if Intel(r) PRO/Wireless 2200 is listed, this is the correct driver.


Installation

Windows XP

1.  The files extract to the C:\Cabs\D00234-001-002 folder.

2.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

3.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then double-click the System icon.

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab.  On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, under Other Devices, double-click Network Adapter, and then click Update Driver.  If the driver has been installed previously, then under Network adapters, double-click Intel(r) Pro/Wireless 2200, and then click Update Driver.

6.  Click Install from a list or specified location (Advanced), and then click Next.

7.  Click to clear the Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM...) check box, and then click to select the Include this location in the search check box.  Type the location where you downloaded and extracted the wireless driver files, and then click Next.  The default path of the drivers is C:\Cabs\D00234-001-002\Drivers\Setupwld.exe for Windows XP.

8.  Windows identifies the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 adapter.  Click Next.

9.  Click Finish.


Windows 2000

1.  The files extract to the C:\Cabs\D00234-001-002 folder.

2.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

3.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab.  On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, under Other Devices, double-click Network Adapter, and then click Update Driver.  If the driver has been installed previously, then under Network adapters, double-click Intel(r) Pro/Wireless 2200, and then click Update Driver.

6.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Next.

7.  Click Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now (Recommended), and then click Next.

8.  Click to clear the Floppy Drive and CD-ROM drives check boxes, and then click to select the Specify a location check box.  
 Type the location where you downloaded and extracted the wireless driver files, and then click Next.  The default path of the drivers is C:\Cabs\D00234-001-002\Drivers\Setupwld.exe for Windows 2000.

9.  Windows identifies the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 adapter.  Click Next.

10.  Click Finish.

In Windows 2000, ProSet is also required.  Use the following steps to install ProSet.

1.  From the C:\Cabs\D00234-001-002\APPS\ folder, double-click iProInst.exe.

2.  In the Intel PROSet for Wireless - InstallShield Wizard dialog box, click Next.

3.  In the next Intel PROSet for Wireless - InstallShield Wizard dialog box, accept the terms of the license agreement, and then click Next.

4.  In the next Intel PROSet for Wireless - InstallShield Wizard dialog box, click Next.

5.  In the next Intel PROSet for Wireless - InstallShield Wizard dialog box, click Install.

6.  In the next Intel PROSet for Wireless - InstallShield Wizard dialog box, click Finish.


Removal

Windows XP

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab.  On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, select Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 adapter, and then on the Driver tab, click Uninstall.

Windows 2000

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab.  On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, double-click Intel PRO/Wireless 2200.

5.  On the Driver tab, click Uninstall.

6.  Close the System Properties dialog box.

7.  In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

8.  In the Add/Remove Program Properties dialog box, click Intel(r) PROSet for Wireless, and then click Add/Remove.

9.  In the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, to remove Intel PROSet click Yes.


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulty during or after the driver installation, follow the removal procedure, and then re-install the drivers.


Reason for Update

This is the latest driver for the notebook computers listed below.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
