Overview

This document describes the steps necessary to install and configure the touchpad drivers for the Solo 1450 portable computer running Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000.


Identification

If you have a Solo 1450 portable computer and are running  Windows XP or Windows 2000, install these drivers.


Installation

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, click the System icon.

2.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab.  On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

3.  In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Mice and other pointing devices, and then double-click PS/2 Compatible Mouse.

4.  In the PS/2 Compatible Mouse Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

5.  In the Welcome dialog box, click Next.

6.  In the What do you want the Wizard to do dialog box, click Next.

7.  In the next dialog box, click to clear the Floppy disk drives and CD-ROM drives check boxes, select the Specify A Location check box, and then click Next.

8.  In the next dialog box type: C:\CABS\7512928\Win2k_xp.  Click OK.

9.  In the Driver File Search Results dialog box, select Install one of the other drivers, and then click Next.

10.  In the Driver Files Found dialog box, click Alps Pointing-device, and then click Next.

11.  A Digital Signature Not Found dialog box may open.  If it does, click Yes to continue.

12.  Files copy.  Click Finish.

13.  In the Alps Pointing-device Properties dialog box, click Close.

14.  In the System Setting Change dialog box, click Yes to restart the computer.


Removal

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, click the System icon.

2.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

3.  In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Mice and other pointing devices.

4.  Right-click the Alps Pointing-device, and then click Uninstall.

5.  In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.

6.  In the System Setting Change dialog box, click Yes to restart the computer.


Troubleshooting

If you are having difficulty during or after the driver installation, follow the removal procedure, and then re-install the drivers.


Reason for Update

This is the initial release of the drivers.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
