Overview

These are the drivers for the internal Xircom Combo Mini-PCI network/modem card on the Solo 5300.


Identification

If you have a Solo 5300 with the internal Xircom Combo Mini-PCI network/modem card, you need to install these drivers.


Installation

Use the following steps to install the network drivers in Windows 98SE. 

1.  Go to the folder on your hard drive where you downloaded the modem driver file, and then double-click the file.  This extracts the files to your hard drive.

2.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager tab.

3.  On the Device Manager tab, under Other Devices, double-click PCI Ethernet Controller, and then click Reinstall Driver.

4.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Next.

5.  Verify that Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now (Recommended) is selected, and then click Next.

6.  Clear the Floppy Drive check box, and then select the Specify a location check box.  Type the location where you downloaded and extracted the modem driver files, and then click Next.  The default location of the drivers is C:\cabs\7511847B1\LAN\14419_PC99.

7.  Windows has found an updated driver, the Intel PRO/100+ MiniPCI.  Click Next.

8.  Windows is now ready to install the best driver for this device.  Click Next.

9.  Files are copied.  An Insert Disk dialog box opens, prompting for the location of the Windows 98 CD-ROM.  Click OK.

10.  The Copying Files dialog box opens, prompting for the path to the Intel(r) Pro Adapter CD-ROM.  Type the path you used in step 6, and then click OK.

11.  Click Finish.

12.  In the Systems Settings Change dialog box, click Yes to restart the computer.

13.  After restarting the computer, right-click the Network Neighborhood icon on your desktop.  From the shortcut menu, click Properties.  The Network Properties dialog box opens.  Consult your network administrator for the settings that you need to change in order to connect to the network.

Use the following steps to install the network drivers in Windows Me. 

1.  Go to the folder on your hard drive where you downloaded the modem driver file, and then double-click the file.  This extracts the files to your hard drive.

2.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

Note:  If the System icon does not appear in Control Panel, click If you don't see an option you are looking for, view all Control Panel options, and then double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager tab.

4.  On the Device Manager tab, under Other Devices, double-click PCI Ethernet Controller, and then click Reinstall Driver.

5.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced), and then click Next.

6.  Verify that Removable Media (floppy, CD-ROM...) is not selected.  In the Specify A Location text box, type the location where you downloaded and extracted the driver files, and then click Next.  The default location of the drivers is C:\cabs\7511847B1\LAN\14419_PC99.

7.  Windows has found an updated driver for the Intel PRO/100+ MiniPCI.  Click Next.

8.  Click Next to start copying files.

9.  Click Finish.

10.  In the Systems Settings Change dialog box, click Yes to restart your computer.

11.  After restarting the computer, right-click the Network Neighborhood icon on your desktop.  From the shortcut menu, click Properties.  The Network Properties dialog box opens.  Consult your network administrator for the settings that you need to change in order to connect to the network.

Use the following steps to install the network drivers in Windows 2000. 

1.  Go to the folder on your hard drive where you downloaded the modem driver file, and then double-click the file.  This extracts the files to your hard drive.

2.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, under Other Devices, double-click PCI Ethernet Controller.  In the PCI Ethernet Controller Properties dialog box, click Reinstall Driver.

5.  In the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Next.

6.  Click Next.

7.  Clear the Floppy disk drives and CD-ROM drives check boxes, and then select the Specify A Location check box.  Click Next.

8.  Type the path to the network driver, and then click OK.  The default location of the driver is C:\cabs\7511847B1\LAN\14419_PC99.

9.  In the Driver File Search Results dialog box, click Next.  If a Digital Signature Not Found dialog box opens, click Yes.  

10.  After the files are copied, click Finish.

11.  In the Intel PRO/100+ MiniPCI Properties dialog box, click Close.

12.  Close Device Manager, and then restart your computer.

13.  After your computer restarts, from the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, double-click the Network & Dial-up Connections icon.  Consult your network administrator for the settings that you need to change in order to connect to the network.

Use the following steps to install the network drivers in Windows NT. 

1.  Go to the folder on your hard drive where you downloaded the modem driver file, and then double-click the file.  This extracts the files to your hard drive.

2.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

3.  In Control Panel, double-click the Network icon.

4.  If networking has not been installed on the computer, you are prompted to install it now.  Click Yes.

5.  In the Network Setup Wizard dialog box, verify that the Wired to the Network check box is selected, and then click Next.

6.  Click Select From List.

7.  In the Select Network Adapter dialog box, click Have Disk.

8.  In the Insert Disk dialog box, type the path to the network card directory, and then click OK.  The default location of the drivers is C:\cabs\7511847B1\LAN\14419_PC99.

9.  In the Select OEM Option dialog box, click OK.

10.  You are now back in the Network Setup Wizard dialog box with the Intel PRO Adapter listed check box selected.  Click Next.

11.  You are prompted to select the network protocols that you are using on your network.  If you are not sure, you need to consult your network administrator.  When you have selected the network protocols, click Next.

12.  The network services are listed.  If you need to add additional services, click Select From List, and then select the additional services that you need.  If you do not require any additional services, click Next.

13.  Click Next to install the selected components.

14.  A Windows NT Setup dialog box opens, prompting you for the location of some Windows NT files.  Type the location of the Windows NT setup files, for example, D:\I386, and then click Continue.  

15.  If you selected TCP/IP as one of your networking protocols, you are prompted to use DHCP.  If you are not sure, you need to consult your network administrator.  Select either Yes or No based on your specific network settings.  If you select No, you are prompted to provide IP addresses and subnet information.

16.  If DHCP is used, the binding information is displayed.  Click Next.

17.  Click Next to start the network.

18.  You are prompted to make the computer a member of a workgroup or a domain.  If you are not sure, you need to consult your network administrator.  If you are only joining a workgroup, click Next.

19.  Click Finish to complete the network installation.

20.  You are prompted to restart your computer.  Click Yes.

21.  After restarting the computer, you need to reinstall the latest version of Windows NT Service Pack if it was installed prior to installing these drivers.

Use the following steps to install the network drivers in Windows 95. 

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager tab.

2.  On the Device Manager tab, click the plus sign (+) next to Other Devices, and then double-click PCI Ethernet Controller. 

3.  In the PCI Ethernet Controller Properties dialog box, click Update Driver.

4.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Next.

5.  Windows is unable to locate an updated driver for this device.  Click Other Locations.  

6.  Type the location where the driver files were extracted.  The default location is C:\cabs\7511847B1\LAN\14419_PC99.

7.  Windows has found the Intel PRO/100+ MiniPCI.  Click Finish.

8.  In the Insert Disk Window dialog box, click OK.

9.  In the Copying Files dialog box, you are prompted for the location of the 8255XNDI.DLL file.  Type the same location that you used in step 6, and then click OK.

10.  You are prompted to provide a computer and workgroup name that will identify the computer on the network.  Click OK.  

11.  Type a computer and workgroup name, and then click Close.  You may also want to add network protocols before clicking Close.  Contact your network administrator for these settings prior to installing the driver.

12.  You are prompted to test to see if the device can be safely removed.  Click Cancel.

13.  You are prompted to restart your computer.  Click Yes.


Use the following steps to install the modem drivers in all operating systems. 

1.  Go to the folder where the driver files were extracted, and then double-click Setup.exe to begin the installation.  The default folder is C:\cabs\98WDM for Windows 98 and Windows Me, C:\cabs\98NT4 for Windows NT, and C:\cabs\7511874B\WIN2K for Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

2.  In the Modem window, click OK.

3.  When the installation is finished, the program closes.  If installing in Windows NT 4.0, you need to click Finish to restart your computer.


Removal

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.

3.  Select Xircom Combo Mini-PCI network/modem card. 

4.  Click Add/Remove. 

5.  In the Warning dialog box, click Yes.

6.  Click Yes to restart the computer. 


Troubleshooting

If you are having difficulty during or after the driver installation, follow the removal procedure, and then re-install the drivers.


Reason for Update

The driver was updated for international dialing issues.

The part number for this file is 7511874B1.  The part numbers for the Solo 5300 are 3500728, 3500729, 3501006, and 3501007.  The part numbers for the Xircom Combo Mini-PCI Network/Modem card are 6001556 or 6002132.

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
