Overview

These are the system bios for the Solo 1400.


Identification

If you have a Solo 1400, you will want to upgrade to this bios.


Installation

01.)  Go to the folder on your hard drive where you downloaded the driver file and double click on it.  This will extract the files to your hard drive.

02.)  Copy the extracted files to a blank floppy disk.

03.)  Insert the disk into the floppy drive and power on the system.  At the Gateway boot screen, press ESC.  You will then be prompted to choose your boot device.  Arrow down to Floppy Disk" and press ENTER to continue.

04.)  At the A:\ prompt, type 320203 and press ENTER to begin the flash.

05.)  When the flash is completed, the system will restart.  Remove the floppy disk from the drive.


Reason for Update

This bios resolved the following tech support issues:

267534411 - The Solo 1400 LCD display may flicker intermittently when operating on battery power or after resuming from standby or hibernate mode when connected to the AC power.

267534410 - Automated Windows XP Installation Fails When Using System Restoration Kit CD 1 

It also resolves an issue where the modem may intermittently disconnect when speedstep is enabled.

The part number for this file is 7512029.  The part numbes for the Solo 1400 (at this time) are 3501171, 3501172, 3501173, and 3501174.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
