Overview

Solo 2150 1.5 BIOS for chassis numbers 3500672 and 3500673 only.  The ROM should be flashed if:

1) You are updating to a newer BIOS revision.
2) A Gateway 2000 technician has told you to flash/re-flash the computer.on.


Identification

To correctly identify this model of Gateway Solo please look on the bottom of the computer and there will be a chassis Part No. of either of the following: 3500672 or 3500673


Installation

1.  Copy bios file to a floppy diskette.
2.  Make sure the system is plugged into A/C.
3.  Boot clean to the hard disk drive or to a bootable system diskette.
    (see Troubleshooting below for further detail on how to boot clean)
4.  Insert the diskette with the bios upgrade files into the floppy drive 
    and switch to the floppy drive by typing "A:" if necessary.
5.  Type "GWFLASH" and press <ENTER> to start the bios flash process.
    NOTE:  The program will then attempt to detect the system type and 
    install the appropriate bios.  After the bios has been installed, the 
    system will turn itself off or reboot.
6.  When the system reboots, press "F2" to enter the setup utility.  An 
    error,"CMOS CHECKSUM INVALID, DEFAULT VALUES WILL BE LOADED," will be 
    likely to occur.  
7.  Verify any previously customized CMOS settings are intact.
8.  Move to the EXIT menu screen, select "Save Changes & Exit", press 
    <ENTER>, and press <ENTER> on continue.
9.  The system will start to reboot.  Remove the floppy diskette from the 
    disk drive.
    
You have finished installing the new bios!


Troubleshooting

There is one option if you get an error that there is a memory manager loaded and that the bios flash can not continue please try the "/x". Proper syntax is GWFLASH 1752.ROM /x.


 *** How do I Extract or copy files to a floppy diskette ***
Extract the files to a floppy diskette by copying the dowloaded bios file 
to a blank formatted diskette.  Once the file has been copied to the floppy, 
extract the files by typing the EXE file name and then pressing enter.
OR
If the extracted files have already been copied to a directory on the Hard 
Drive, copy them to a blank diskette.


 *** How do I BOOT CLEAN ***
If running WINDOWS 9x:
   Remove all floppy disks from the system.
   Press CTRL+ALT+DEL simultaneously.
   When the message "Starting Windows 95..." or "Starting Windows 98..." appears on the    screen, press 
   the <F8> key.
   Select "Safe mode command prompt only" and press <ENTER>.

If running WINDOWS NT or booting to a system disk:
   Insert a bootable diskette into the floppy drive.
   Turn the system on and allow to boot from a "powered-off" state.
   Press <F5> or <F8> depending on the boot message "Starting MS-DOS" or 
   "Starting Windows 9X".

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
