Overview

This document describes the steps necessary to install and configure the 802.11 wireless drivers for the Solo 1400 portable computer running Windows XP.


Identification

If you have a Solo 1400 portable computer and are running Windows XP, install these drivers.


Installation

1.  Locate the folder that you downloaded to the hard drive, and then double-click it to extract the files.  

2.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel. 

3.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click the System icon. 

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, under Other Devices, double-click USB Device. 

Note:  If updating a previous driver version, the device is listed under Network Adapters as Actiontec PRISM Wireless LAN USB Card, rather than under Other Devices. 

6.  In the USB Device Properties dialog box, click Update Driver.

7.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or specific location, and then click Next. 

8.  In the next dialog box, clear the Search Removable Media (Floppy, CD-ROM) check box, and then select the Include this location in the search check box.  In the text box, type the location of the drivers, and then click Next.  The default location of the drivers is C:\cabs\7512328. 

9.  In the next dialog box, click Finish. 

10.  In the Actiontec PRISM Wireless LAN USB Card Properties dialog box, click Close. 

11.  Close Device Manager. 

12.  From the Start menu, click Run. 

13.  In the Run dialog box, type: C:\cabs\7512328\Installer\Setup.exe.  Click OK. 

14.  In the Welcome dialog box, click Next. 

15.  In the License Agreement dialog box, click Yes. 

16.  In the InstallShield Wizard Complete dialog box, click Finish to restart the computer. 


Removal

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Network Adapters, and then double-click Actiontec PRISM Wireless LAN USB Card.

5.  In the Actiontec PRISM Wireless LAN USB Card Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall.
 
6.  In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.  Close Device Manager.

7.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

8.  In Control Panel, click the Add or Remove Programs icon.

9.  In the Add or Remove Programs window, click Actiontec Wireless LAN Adapter, and then click Change/Remove.

10.  In the InstallShield Wizard dialog box, click  Remove, and then click Next.

11.  In the Confirm File Deletion dialog box, click OK.

12.  In the Maintenance Complete dialog box, click Finish to restart the computer.


Troubleshooting

If you are having difficulty during or after the driver installation, follow the removal procedure, and then re-install the drivers.


Reason for Update

These drivers were updated to resolve tech support issue 267534711 - Solo 1400 Will Not Go into Standby or Hibernate with Wireless Network Drivers Installed.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
