Overview

This is the network driver for the Gateway M505 in Windows XP.  


Identification

If you have a Gateway M505 and are running Microsoft Windows XP, install these drivers.  To see what version of driver you have installed, follow these steps:

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then double-click the System icon.  

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab.  On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, under Network Adapters, double-click Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC.

5.  In the Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab.  The driver date and version are listed.


Installation

After you have downloaded and double-clicked the file (9525518.exe), files are self-extracted and copied into the C:\Cabs\9525518 folder on the hard drive.

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then double-click the System icon.  

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab.  On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, under Network adapters, double-click Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC.  If the driver has never been installed, it is listed as Ethernet Controller under Other Devices.

5.  In the Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC Properties dialog box or in the Ethernet Controller Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update driver.

6.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or Specific Location (Advanced), and then click Next

7.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Don't search I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next.

Note:  If prompted for a hardware type, select Network adapters and then click Next.

8.  In the next dialog box, click Have Disk.

9.  In the Install From Disk dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\9525518.  Click OK.

10.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC and then click Next.

11.  Files copy.

12.  In the Completing the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Finish. 

13.  In the Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC Properties dialog box, click Close.


Removal

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then double-click the System icon.  

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab.  On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, under Network adapters, double-click Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC.

5.  In the Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall. 

6.  In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.


Troubleshooting

If you are having difficulty during or after the driver installation, follow the removal procedure, and then re-install the drivers.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
