Overview

This is the sound driver for the Gateway M505 in Windows XP.  


Identification  

If you have a Gateway M505 and are running Microsoft Windows XP, install these drivers.  To see which version of driver you have installed, follow these steps:

1.  From the Start menu, click Run.  

2.  In the Run dialog box, type: dxdiag.  Click OK.

3.  In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, click the Sound tab.

4.  On the right hand side of the Sound tab in the Drivers section, the driver version and date are listed.


Installation

After you have downloaded and double-clicked the file (9525327.exe), files are self-extracted and copied into the C:\Cabs\9525327 folder on the hard drive.

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then double-click the System icon.  

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab.  On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, under Sound, video and game controllers, double-click Realtek AC'97 Audio.  If the driver has never been installed, it is listed as Multimedia Audio Controller under Other Devices.

5.  In the Realtek AC'97 Audio Properties dialog box or in the Multimedia Audio Controller Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update driver.

6.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or Specific Location (Advanced), and then click Next

7.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Don't search I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next.

 Note:  If prompted for a hardware type, select Sound, video, and game controllers and then click Next.

8.  In the next dialog box, click Have Disk.

9.  In the Install From Disk dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\9525327.  Click OK.

10.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Realtek AC'97 Audio and then click Next.

11.  Files copy.

12.  In the Completing the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Finish. 

13.  In the Realtek AC'97 Audio Properties dialog box, click Close.


Removal

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs.

3.  In the Add or Remove Programs window, click Realtek AC'97 Audio, and then click Change/Remove.

4.  The driver is removed.

5.  In the Realtek AC'97 Audio Setup dialog box, select Yes, I want to restart my computer now and then click Finish to restart.


Troubleshooting

If you are having difficulty during or after the driver installation, follow the removal procedure, and then reinstall the drivers.
