Overview

This document describes the steps necessary to install the Windows XP Broadcom BCM5751 Ethernet driver for the Gateway notebook computer models listed in the Applicable Part Numbers section below.

Note: Drivers for other operating systems are also provided within this archive.  However, Gateway has not tested and does not support the drivers with these other operating systems.  If installed on a computer running one of these operating systems, the drivers may not be compatible with some programs on your computer.  Contact the affected program's publisher for more information.


Installation

Download and double-click the file (D00293-001-001.exe).  Files self-extract and copy into the C:\Cabs\D00293-001-001 folder on the hard drive.

1.  Open Control Panel.

 *  If you are using the Windows XP default Start menu, from the Start menu, click Control Panel.
 *  If you are using the Classic Start Menu, from the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, open System.

 *  If you are in Category View, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click the System icon.
 *  If you are in Classic View, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.  

4.  On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Network adapters.

Note: If a network driver is already installed, it is listed under Network adapters.  If a driver is not already loaded, it is listed under Other.

6.  Click the network adapter, and then from the Action menu, click Update Driver. 

Note: If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), please follow steps 7 through 11.  If you are not running SP2, please follow the instructions provided by the operating system to locate the driver, following the below option selections as closely as possible.

7.  The Hardware Update Wizard displays.  Click to select No, not at this time, and then click Next.

8.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Install from a list or specific Location (Advanced).  Click Next.

9.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Include this location in the search, and then type or browse to the C:\Cabs\D00293-001-001 folder.  Click Next.

10.  In the InstallShield Wizard Complete dialog box, click Finish.

11.  Click Finish to restart the computer, if necessary. 


Removal

1.  Open Control Panel.

 *  If you are using the Windows XP default Start menu, from the Start menu, click Control Panel.
 *  If you are using the Classic Start Menu, from the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, open System.

 *  If you are in Category View, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click the System icon.
 *  If you are in Classic View, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.  

4.  On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Network adapters.

Note: If a network driver is already installed, it is listed under Network adapters.  If a driver is not already loaded, it is listed under Other.

6.  Click the network adapter, and then from the Action menu, click Uninstall.

7.  In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK. 


Reason for Update

This is the initial release of this driver.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
