Overview

This document describes the steps necessary to upgrade to BIOS version W7248AG2.10L for the MS-7248 motherboard.


Identification

This BIOS can be installed on a MS-7248 motherboard, part number WMEMS-7248.


Installation

The BIOS should be flashed if:

1.  You are updating to a newer BIOS revision.

2.  A technician has told you to flash or re-flash the computer.

Note: Please verify the CD burner software that you have on your system before using the bootable CD options below.


(Nero Express) Steps to flash or re-flash the computer using a CD burner drive:

1.  Use Nero Express burning software to Burn Disc Image of the C:\Cabs\9535973\9535973.NRG file to a blank CD.

2.  After creating the bootable CD, place the CD in the CD/DVD drive, and then restart the computer.

3.  At the Menu, select 1 for Gateway BIOS W7248AG2.10L.  The BIOS flash process runs automatically.  Do not press any keys or turn off the computer during this process.

4.  When the flash is complete, the computer automatically restarts.  

5.  Press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

6.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Load Optimized Defaults, and then press the ENTER key.

7.  Press the Y key, and then press ENTER to select Load Optimized Defaults.

8.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Save & Exit Setup, and then press ENTER.

9.  Press Y, and then press ENTER to Save to CMOS and EXIT.


(Power2Go) Steps to flash or re-flash the computer using a CD burner drive:

1.  Use Power2Go burning software to Burn Disc Image of the C:\Cabs\9535973\9535973.P2I file to a blank CD.

2.  After creating the bootable CD, place the CD in the CD/DVD drive, and then restart the computer.

3.  At the Menu, select 1 for Gateway BIOS W7248AG2.10L.  The BIOS flash process runs automatically.  Do not press any keys or turn off the computer during this process.

4.  When the flash is complete, the computer automatically restarts.  

5.  Press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

6.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Load Optimized Defaults, and then press the ENTER key.

7.  Press the Y key, and then press ENTER to select Load Optimized Defaults.

8.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Save & Exit Setup, and then press ENTER.

9.  Press Y, and then press ENTER to Save to CMOS and EXIT.


Steps to flash or re-flash the computer using a floppy disk drive or bootable USB flash drive:

1.  Copy all of the BIOS files except 9535973.NRG and 9535973.P2I from the C:\Cabs\9535973 folder to a blank floppy disk or a USB flash drive. 

2.  Restart the computer with the floppy disk inserted/USB flash drive plugged in.

3.  At the Menu, select 1 for Gateway BIOS W7248AG2.10L.  The BIOS flash process runs automatically.  Do not press any keys or turn off the computer during this process.

4.  When the flash is complete, the computer automatically restarts.  

5.  Press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.

6.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Load Optimized Defaults, and then press the ENTER key.

7.  Press the Y key, and then press ENTER to select Load Optimized Defaults.

8.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Save & Exit Setup, and then press ENTER.

9.  Press Y, and then press ENTER to Save to CMOS and EXIT.


Removal

Because a computer must have a BIOS to operate, there is no removal process.  The BIOS cannot be removed after it has been upgraded.


Troubleshooting

If you have trouble flashing the BIOS, try the process again following the steps listed in the Installation section of this document.  If you are still unable to flash the BIOS, verify that you are actually attempting to flash the BIOS on an MS-7248 motherboard.  If this process still fails, contact technical support.
