Overview

This is the basic Gateway OEM Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 2000 driver for the Creative Sound Blaster(r) Audigy(tm) 2 sound card.


Identification

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance. 

3.  In the Performance and Maintenance window, click the System icon. 

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, double-click Sound, video and game controllers.  

6.  If Creative SB Audigy is listed under Sound, video and game controllers, this is the correct driver.


Installation 

Download the file to the desktop, and then perform the following steps. 

Windows XP:

1.  On the desktop, double-click the 9521941.exe file.

2.  In the Win-Zip Self Extractor dialog box, to expand the files to C:\Cabs\9521941, click Unzip.

3.  In the Win-Zip dialog box, click OK.

4.  Close all open programs.

5.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  

6.  In Control Panel, click the Performance and Maintenance icon.  

7.  In the Performance and Maintenance window, click the System icon. 

8.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. 

9.  In Device Manager, double-click Sound, video and game controllers.

10.  Double-click Creative SB Audigy.

11.  In the Creative SB Audigy Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

12.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.

13.  In the next dialog box, perform the following steps.

 a.  Click to clear the Search removable media (Floppy, CD-ROM) check box.
 b.  Select the Include this location in the search check box.
 c.  In the text box, type: C:\Cabs\9521941.
 d.  Click Next.

14.  Files copy.

15.  In the Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box, click Finish.  

16.  Close all open dialog boxes.

17.  When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.


Windows 2000:

1.  On the desktop, double-click the 9521941.exe file.

2.  In the Win-Zip Self Extractor dialog box, to expand the files to C:\Cabs\9521941, click Unzip.

3.  In the Win-Zip dialog box, click OK.

4.  Close all open programs.

5.  From the Start menu, Settings and click Control Panel.  

6.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

7.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

8.  In Device Manager, under Other Devices, double-click Multimedia Audio Controller.

9.  In the Multimedia Audio Controller Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

10. In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Next

11. In the next dialog box, perform the following steps.

 a.  Select Search for a suitable driver for my device.
 b.  Ensure that only the Specify a Location check box is selected.
 c.  In the copy files from dialog box, type: C:\cabs\9521941.
 d.  Click Next.

12.  Files copy.

13.  In the Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box, click Finish.

14.  Close all open dialog boxes and windows.


Removal

Windows XP:

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  

2.  In Control Panel, click the Performance and Maintenance icon.  

3.  In the Performance and Maintenance window, click the System icon. 

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.  

5.  In Device Manager, double-click Sound, video and game controllers.

6.  Double-click Creative SB Audigy.

7.  In the Creative SB Audigy Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall Driver.

8.  In the Warning dialog box, click OK.

9.  When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.

10.  If you are prompted to restart the computer again, click Yes.

Windows 2000:

1.  From the Start menu, Settings, and click Control Panel.  

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, double-click Sound, video and game controllers

5.  Select Creative SB Audigy, and then, on the Action menu, click Uninstall.

6.  When prompted to confirm the device removal, click OK.


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulty during or after the driver installation, perform the following troubleshooting steps. 

1.  Ensure that all cables are securely connected.  

2.  Ensure that the sound card is fully seated in the PCI expansion slot.

3.  Remove the driver, following the removal procedure in this document, and then reinstall the driver, following the installation procedure in this document.


Reason for Update

This is the latest Gateway-supported basic driver for the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 sound card.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
