This update corrects the problem. Identification Verify the model name of the computer; Gateway GM5478, GM5485E, or GM5485H. Installation 1. Download the Viivfix.exe file from the Gateway web site. 2. Double-click on the Viivfix.exe file. The needed update files self-extract to the C:\Cabs\Viivfix directory on the hard drive. 3. From the Start menu, click Computer, double-click Local Disk (C:), double-click Cabs, and then double-click the Viivfix folder. 4. In the Viivfix folder, right-click (alternate click) the patch.cmd file, and then click Run as Administrator. 5. As the file executes, a command window briefly opens and then closes. 6. Close all programs, and then restart the computer. Removal There is no removal of this update; it is needed for Viiv to load correctly at start up. Troubleshooting To verify that the update was successful, navigate to the C:\Windows\Options folder. Double-click the Viivfix.txt file. The file text should be the word "Done". If this file is not present, download the Viivfix.exe file again, and then run the installation steps above. Reason for Update Allows Viiv to start automatically on start up. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
