Overview

This document describes the steps necessary to install and configure the GTW V.92 Voice Modem driver for the Gateway(r) 450SX4 in Microsoft(r) Windows(r) XP, Windows(r) 98, or Windows(r) 2000.


Identification

If you have a Gateway(r) 450SX4 portable computer and are running Windows(r) XP, Windows(r) 98, or Windows(r) 2000, install this driver.


Windows(r) XP Installation

1.  On the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.

3.  In Performance and Maintenance, click the System icon.

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click the Device Manager button.
 
5.  In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Other devices, and then double-click PCI Modem.

6.  In the PCI Modem Properties dialog box, click Reinstall driver.

7.  Click Install from a list or specific location, and then click Next.

8.  In the Hardware Update Wizard box, click Next.

9.  Click to clear the Search removable media check box, and then select the Include this location in the search check box. 

10.  In the text box type: C:\cabs\7512419.  Click Next.

11.  Click Finish.

12.  In the GTW V.92 Voicemodem Properties dialog box, click Close.

13.  Close Device Manager.


Windows(r) XP Removal

1.  On the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.

3.  In Performance and Maintenance, click the System icon.

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Modems, and then double-click GTW V.92 Voicemodem.

6.  In the GTW V.92 Voicemodem Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab.

7.  On the Driver tab, click Uninstall.

8.  In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.

9.  Close Device Manager.


Windows(r) 2000 Installation

1.  On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

2.  In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Other Devices, and then double-click PCI Device.

3.  In the PCI Device Properties dialog box, click Reinstall Driver

4.  In the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Next.

5.  In the next dialog box, click Next.

6.  In the next dialog box, click to clear the Floppy Disk Drives and CD-ROM Drives check boxes.  Select the Specify A Location check box, and then click Next.

7.  In the next dialog box, type: C:\cabs\7512419.  Click OK.

8.  In the Driver Files Search Results dialog box, click Next.

9.  Click Finish.

10.  Close the GTW V.92 Voicemodem Properties dialog box. 

11.  Close Device Manager.


Windows(r) 2000 Removal

1.  On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.  

2.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

3.  In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to modem, and then double-click GTW V.92 Voicemodem.

4.  In the GTW V.92 Voicemodem Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall.

5.  In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.

6.  Close Device Manager.


Windows(r) 98 Installation

1.  On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.  In the System Properties dialog box, click Device Manager.

3.  In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Modems, select GTW V.92 Voicemodem, and then click Remove.

4.  Close Device Manager.


Troubleshooting

If you are having problems with your network driver, try reinstalling it again by following the installation steps listed in this document.  If the problem persists, try removing the driver, and then reinstalling it.

This is the initial release of these drivers.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
