Overview

This document describes the steps necessary to install the BIOS 2209-84 for the Gateway Colorbook 486SX25, 486SX33, and 486DX33.


Identification

If you have a Gateway Colorbook 486SX25, 486SX33, and 486DX33 install this BIOS.


Installation

1.  Double-click cbsx84.exe to extract the files.

2.  The files are extracted to C:\cabs\cbsx84. 

3.  Restart the computer, and then press the F8 key when the "Starting Windows 95" message appears.  The Windows 95 Startup menu opens.
     
4.  From the Windows 95 Startup menu, use the arrow keys to select Safe mode command prompt only.  Press the ENTER key.

5.  Change to the C:\cabs\cbsx84 directory.  Type: flash.  Press ENTER.

6.  The BIOS update runs, and the computer is restarted.
     

Removal

A computer must have a BIOS to operate, therefore, there is no removal procedure. 


Troubleshooting

If you are having difficulty during or after the BIOS installation, follow the installation steps again. 


Reason for Update

This is the initial release of the BIOS.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
