Overview

This document describes the steps necessary to install and configure the Intel(r) Pro/100 VE Network Card drivers for the Gateway 600YGR, 600YG2, 450ROG, 450RGH, 450SX4, 400SD4, 400VTX, M305CRV, or Solo 1450 in Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows 98.


Identification

If you have a Gateway 600YGR, 600YG2, 450ROG, 450RGH, 450SX4, 400SD4, 400VTX, M305CRV, or Solo 1450 notebook computer and are running Windows XP, Windows 2000, or Windows 98, install these drivers.


Installation for Windows XP

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.

3.  In Performance and Maintenance, click the System icon.

4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Network Adapters, and then double-click Intel(r) PRO/100 VE Network Connection.

6.  In the Intel(r) PRO/100 VE Network Connection Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.

7.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.

8.  In the next dialog box, click Search for the best driver in these locations, and then click Include this location in the search.

9.  In the text box, type: C:\Cabs\9520300.  Click Next.

10.  Click Finish.

11.  In the Intel(r) Pro/100 VE Network Connection Properties dialog box, click Close.

12.  Close Device Manager.


Installation for Windows 2000

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

2.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

3.  In Device Manager, under Other Devices, double-click Ethernet Controller, and then click Reinstall Driver.  

4.  In the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Next.

5.  Click Next.

6.  Click to clear the Floppy disk drive and CD-ROM drive check boxes, and then select the Specify A Location check box.  Click Next.

7.  Type the path to the network driver, and then click OK.  The default location of the driver is C:\Cabs\9520300.

8.  In the Driver File Search Results dialog box, click Next.

9.  Click Finish.

10.  In the Intel(r) PRO/100 VE Network Properties dialog box, click Close.

11.  Close Device Manager.


Installation for Windows 98

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.  

2.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager tab.

3.  On the Device Manager tab, under Other Devices, double-click PCI Ethernet Controller, and then click Reinstall Driver.

4.  In the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box, click Next.

5.  Verify that Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now (Recommended) is selected, and then click Next.

6.  Click to clear the Floppy Drive check box, and then select the Specify a location check box.  Type: C:\Cabs\9520300.  Click OK.

7.  Windows identifies the Intel Pro/100VE Network Connection.  Click Next.

8.  In the Insert Disk dialog box, click OK.

9.  In the Copying Files dialog box, type: C:\cabs\9520300.  Click OK. 

10.  Click Finish.

11.  In the Systems Settings Change dialog box, click Yes to restart the computer.


Removal

Windows XP

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

4.  In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Network Adapters, and then double-click Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection.

5.  In the Intel(r) PRO/100 VE Network Connection Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Roll Back Driver.

6.  In the Intel(r) PRO/100 VE Network Connection dialog box, click Yes to continue.

7.  In the Intel(r) PRO/100 VE Network Connection Properties dialog box, click Close.

8.  Close Device Manager.


Windows 2000 and Windows 98

1.  From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.  

2.  In Control Panel, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the Windows 2000 System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.  

In the Windows 98 System Properties dialog box, click the Device Manager tab.

4.  In Device Manager, under Network Adapters, double-click Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection.

5.  In the Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab.

6.  On the Driver tab, click Uninstall.

7.  In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.

8.  Close Device Manager.


Troubleshooting

If you are having difficulty during or after the driver installation, follow the removal procedure, and then re-install the drivers.

These drivers were updated for minor performance improvements.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
