Overview  

This document describes the steps necessary to install and configure the Windows XP Finepoint driver for the computers listed in the Applicable Part Numbers section of this document. 


Identification  

If you have a Gateway notebook computer listed in the Applicable Part Numbers section of this document and are running Windows XP, install this driver.


Installation

After you have downloaded and double-clicked the file (FP4302), files self-extract and copy into the C:\Cabs\FP4302 folder on the hard drive.

1.  Open Control Panel.

 *  If you are using the Windows XP default Start menu, from the Start menu, click Control Panel.
 *  If you are using the Classic Start Menu, from the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2.  In Control Panel, open System.

 *  If you are in Category View, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click the System icon.
 *  If you are in Classic View, double-click the System icon.

3.  In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab.  

4.  On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.

5.  In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) next to Human Interface Devices.

6.  Click Fine Point Innovations Tablet, and then from the Action menu, click Update Driver. 

7.  The Hardware Update Wizard displays.  Click to select No, not at this time, and then click Next.

8.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Install from a list or specific Location (Advanced).  Click Next.

9.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Include this location in the search, and then type or browse to the C:\Cabs\FP4302 folder.  Click Next.

10.  Open the FP4302 folder and confirm the selection of the FpHid.inf file.  Click Open.

11.  In the Install from Disk window, click OK.

12. The Hardware Update Wizard window displays FinePoint Innovations Tablet.  Click Next.

13.  Files copy.

14.  In the InstallShield Wizard Complete dialog box, click Finish.

15.  Click Finish to restart the computer, if necessary. 


Removal

These drivers are necessary for the stylus to function, and should not be removed.


Troubleshooting

If you are having difficulty during or after the driver installation, follow the removal procedure, and then re-install the drivers.  If the touchpad stops working after removing the driver, restart the computer.


Reason for Update

This driver resolves the Tablet PC Input icon remaining on the screen at all times.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
