This file is provided to owners and users of the Rio S Series player for
the express purpose of flashing, or reinstalling, the Rio firmware version 2.03.

1. File Contents

The executable file RioSSeries_firmware_203.exe is a self-extracting 
compressed file, which when expanded, places the following files 
on your computer in a folder called C:\RioSSeries\Flash203\.

RioSSeries_firmware_203.exe - This is the utility which communicates with 
the Rio S Series hardware and installs the firmware file to the Rio.

Readme.txt - This is a copy of the file you are reading now.

**Note - If you are upgrading from firmware version 1.0, you will first need to download
and install RioSSeries_Firmware_184 before upgrading to v. 2.03

2. Instructions

**Note**  Contents on players internal and external memory will be lost during the upgrade! **Note**

2.1   Prior to installing and running the firmware update close all programs.
2.2   Run the self-extracting file RioSSeries_firmware_203.exe which you 
      downloaded from the Internet.  It should extract to C:\RioSSeries\Flash203\
      unless you specified an alternate location.
2.3   Connect the Rio player to the computer with the USB cable.
2.4   Turn the Rio player on.
2.5   Double click on the Icon labeled 'RioSSeriesFlash_203.exe'
2.6   Press the 'Next' button, and the firmware upgrader will detect your Rio player.
2.7   Highlight your Rio Player and press the button labeled 'Next'.  The firmware will 
      begin transferring to the Rio player.
2.8   Once finished, press 'Finish' to exit the firmware upgrade application.

S10, S11, S50, S30S, S35S Changes in Version 2.03

3.1 Resolved an issue whereby some purchased WMA tracks experienced a 
skipping or stutter when played back.

3.2 Added playlist support (use Rio Music Manager 2.40 or later to load playlists).

 
User Interface changes introduced in the 2.03 release

3.3 Added Playlist support (use Rio Music Manager 2.40 or later to load playlists)

3.4 Content lists now wrap around at the ends.

3.5 Now scrolls Artist and Album fields as well as track Title.

3.6 Moved Contrast and Backlight into "Display" settings dialog. 

3.7 "Lock Setup" dialog allows the user to customize the behavior of Volume, Enter 
and Pad controls while the player is locked.

3.8 Animated check mark or cross indicates confirmed or cancelled settings.

3.9 The backlight now comes on after boot, unless configured for "Never".

3.10 Add an EQ status line, stating the current EQ preset name (press Enter to cycle through).

3.11 Replaced Stereo/Mono track format string with track size.

3.12 Moved clock to the date status line.

3.13 Changed volume bar to stepped volume indicator.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
