Bluetooth Stack Installation Guide

This document guides users to install or upgrade the Bluetooth Stack on
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (=SP2).  Note:  "Bluetooth Stack" is a name commonly
used to describe the driver and apps used to control Bluetooth devices.

Before updating the Bluetooth Stack, please make sure that either "Bluetooth
Stack for Windows by Toshiba" or "Microsoft Windows XP  Stack" is not running
on your machine.

If you are using Bluetooth Devices (BT Mouse or keyboard, for example) be
advised that they will not be available while you are upgrading or switching
Bluetooth Stacks..

CONTENTS:
CASE 1 - How To install the newest Toshiba Bluetooth Stack before you upgrade
to XP Service Pack 2.
CASE 2 - How to prepare your machine to use the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack
before you upgrade to XP Service Pack 2.
CASE 3 - How to switch between the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack and the Toshiba
Bluetooth Stack when your machine already has XP Service Pack 2 installed.
CASE 4 - How to load, or switch between, the Microsoft and Toshiba Bluetooth
Stacks if you have Windows XP with SP2 pre installed on your machine.

Notes
To use Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Stack, Bluetooth Monitor 2 is required to turn
on/off the power of Bluetooth module. This application is not required if
"Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba" is used.

Re-installing the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack will result in "unsigned file"
messages.  Follow Windows HW Wizard (Select "No, not at this time" on Windows
Update), click "Continue Anyway" when non-logo'd drivers are found.

For CASE 4, the "Bluetooth Monitor 2" and the latest "Bluetooth Stack for Windows by
Toshiba" can also be found on the recovery media that came with your computer.


CASE 1
Use "Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba"

[Upgrade to latest Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba]
1. Download the install program of "Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba"
version 3.00.32 or later from the Toshiba WEB site.
2. Open the Add/Remove Program under Control Panel and uninstall 
"Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba", which is currently installed, 
and then reboot the PC.
3. Click the downloaded executable (.exe file) to install the new Bluetooth
Stack, then reboot the PC (The.exe file will require reboot before and/or
after the installation).
4. Install SP2.

[Microsoft Windows XP SP1 Stack -> Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba]
1. Download the install program of "Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba"
version 3.00.32 or later from the Toshiba WEB site.
2. Open the Add/Remove Program under Control Panel and uninstall Bluetooth Monitor.
3. Click the downloaded executable (.exe file) to install the new Bluetooth
Stack, and then reboot the PC.
4. Install SP2.

CASE 2
Use "Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Stack"

[Microsoft Windows XP SP1 Stack -> Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Stack]
1. Download the install program of "Bluetooth Monitor for MS Stack" version 2.00 or later from the
Toshiba WEB site.
2. Open the Add/Remove Program under Control Panel and remove Bluetooth Monitor.
3. Run (Double Click) the downloaded "Bluetooth Monitor for MS Stack" version 2.00 executable.  This will 
put this readme (Bluetooth Stack Installation Guide.txt) on the desktop and the setup 
program in the folder c:\Toshiba\BTMonitor.
4. Run BtMon2Inst.exe located in the folder c:\toshiba\BTmonitor\ to install the Bluetooth 
Monitor version 2.00.  Once installation is complete, restart the system to complete all changes 
to the system.
5. Install SP2.

[Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba -> Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Stack]
1. Download the install program of "Bluetooth Monitor for MS Stack" version 2.00 or later from the
Toshiba WEB site.
2. Open the Add/Remove Program under Control Panel and uninstall 
"Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba", which is currently installed, 
then reboot your PC.
3. Run (Double Click) the downloaded "Bluetooth Monitor for MS Stack" version 2.00  or later executable. 
This will put this readme (Bluetooth Stack Installation Guide.txt) on the desktop and the setup 
program in the folder c:\Toshiba\BTMonitor.
4. Run BtMon2Inst.exe located in the folder c:\toshiba\BTmonitor\ to install the Bluetooth 
Monitor for MS Stack.  Once installation is complete, restart the system to complete all changes 
to the system.
5. Install SP2.

Case 3
Switch the Bluetooth Stack after SP2 is installed.

[Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Stack -> Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba]
1. Download the install program of "Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba"
version 3.00.32 or later from the Toshiba WEB site.
2. Open the Control Panel -> "Bluetooth Devices"-> "Options" tab and disable
"Show the Bluetooth icon in the notification area".
3. Click the downloaded executable to install the new Bluetooth Stack, and
then reboot the PC.

[Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba -> Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Stack]
1. Download the program "Bluetooth Monitor for MS Stack" version 2.00 or later from the
Toshiba WEB site.
2. Open the Add/Remove Program under Control Panel and uninstall 
"Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba", which is currently installed, 
then reboot your PC.
3. Run (Double Click) the downloaded Bluetooth Monitor for MS Stack executable.  This will
put this readme (Bluetooth Stack Installation Guide.txt) on the desktop and the setup 
program in the folder c:\Toshiba\BTMonitor.
4. Run BtMon2Inst.exe located in the folder c:\toshiba\BTmonitor\ to install the Bluetooth 
Monitor for MS Stack.  Once installation is complete, restart the system to complete all changes
to the system.


Case 4
Install Bluetooth Stack on Windows XP with SP2 (OPK). If a default Bluetooth
Stack is not installed, SP2 OPK will make Windows XP SP2 Bluetooth Stack as the default stack.

[Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba]
1. Install "Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba" version 3.00.32 or later from the Recovery Media.

[Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Stack]
1. Install "Bluetooth Monitor for MS Stack" version 2.00 or later software from the Recovery Media.  This does not 
actually install the Bluetooth Monitor for MS Stack, it places this readme on the system desktop and copies 
the installation executable to C:\Toshiba\BTMonitor\
2. Run BtMon2Inst.exe located in c:\toshiba\BTmonitor\ to install the Bluetooth
Monitor for MS Stack.  Once installation is complete, restart the system to complete all changes 
to the system.

[Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba -> Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Stack]
1. Install "Bluetooth Monitor for MS Stack" version 2.00 or later software from the Recovery Media. 
This does not actually install the Bluetooth Monitor, it places this readme on the system desktop
and copies the installation executable to C:\Toshiba\BTMonitor\
2. Open the Add/Remove Program under Control Panel and uninstall 
"Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba", which is currently installed, then reboot your PC.
3. Run BtMon2Inst.exe located in c:\toshiba\BTmonitor\ to install the Bluetooth
Monitor for MS Stack, and then reboot the PC.
4. "Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Stack" will be installed automatically. Open the
Control Panel and open "Bluetooth Device" to configure the settings (to display the Bluetooth 
icon to the task bar, open "Options" tab and enable "Show the Bluetooth icon in the notification area").

[Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Stack -> Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba]
1. Install "Bluetooth Stack for Windows by Toshiba" version 3.00.32 or later  from the Recovery Media.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
