Atheros Wireless LAN Driver V2.4.2.14 for Windows XP/2000
Atheros Client Utility v2.4.2.18 for Windows XP/2000

Supported Adapters:

Atheros AR5001X+ Wireless Network Adapter (embedded IEEE802.11a/g, g Wireless LAN)
Atheros AR5001X Mini PCI Wireless Network Adapter (embedded IEEE802.11a/b Wireless LAN)

Supported Operating Systems:

Windows XP SP1 / Windows 2000 SP3 or SP4

NOTE:
*When using the Atheros Client Utility for WPA, do not install the Microsoft
 Windows XP Support Patch for Wireless Protected Access, Q815485.
 This Patch is not needed.

*To perform these steps on Windows XP/2000 systems, you will need to log on
 with administrator privileges.


  1.Updating Atheros Wireless LAN Driver Windows for XP / Windows 2000

  1) Download, then double-click atheros_wpa_driver.exe.
     WinZIP Self-Extractor starts. Then click "OK".
  2) Click "Setup" to extract files.
  3) When thr Driver Setup wizard starts. Click "Next" to install the driver.
  4) When the License Agreement screen appears, read the License Agreement,
     and click "Yes" to install the driver.
  5) Select "Install the Atheros Wireless LAN MiniPCI card Driver" and click
     "Next".
  6) When you receive a message indicating that Setup has finished the
     installation, click "Finish".
  7) The driver installation is complete.

  2.Updating Atheros Client Utility
    If the Atheros Client Utility has been already installed on your computer,
    be sure to uninstall the utility before installing the new one.

  Step 1 Uninstalling the Client Utility
    1) In the Start Menu, Select Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add or Remove
       Programs.
    2) Select "Atheros Client Utility", and click "Change/Remove".
    3) When Confirm Uninstall screen appears, click "OK".
    4) When you receive a message indicating "Maintenance Complete", click
       "Finish".

  Step 2 Installing the Client Utility
  (1) Windows XP
    1) Download, then double-click atheros_wpa_client.exe.  WinZIP
       Self-Extractor starts.  Then click "OK".
    2) Click "Setup" to extract files.
    3) When the Utility Setup wizard starts, click "Next" to install the
       utility.
    4) Read the License Agreement in the next window, and click "Yes" to
       install the utility.
    5) In the "Choose Destination Location" screen, perform one of the
       following:
       * If you want the ACU program files to be installed in the default
         location (ex. C:\Program Files\Atheros), click "Next".
       * If you want to specify a different destination for the ACU program
         files, click "Browse", select a location, and click "Next".
    6) In the "Select Program Folder" screen, specify a program folder name
       for the Atheros Client Utility by selecting from the list of existing
       folders (the default name is Atheros) or typing in a new folder name.
       When you have made your decision, click "Next".
    7) In the "Select components" screen, select the appropriate option and
       click "Next".
    8) In the "Setup Type" screen, perform one of the following:
       * If you do not want to use Wireless Zero Configuration Service on
         Windows XP, check the box "Disable Wireless Zero Configuration on
         Windows XP", and click "Next".
       * If you want to use Wireless Zero Configuration Service on Windows XP,
        keep the box "Disable Wireless Zero Configuration on Windows XP" blank,
        and click "Next".
    9) When you receive a message indicating that Setup has finished
       installing, perform the following, and click "Finish":
       * If you want to start the Atheros Client Utility immediately,
        select "I'd like to start Atheros Client Utility".
       * If you want to add the Atheros Client Utility to the startup folder,
        select "I'd like to add Atheros Client Utility to the startup folder".
   10) The client utility installation is complete.

  (2) Windows 2000
    1) Download, then double-click atheros_wpa_client.exe.  WinZIP
       Self-Extractor starts.  Then click "OK".
    2) Click "Setup" to extract files.
    3) When the Utility Setup wizard starts, click "Next" to install the
       utility.
    4) Read the License Agreement in the next window, and click "Yes" to
       install the utility.
    5) In the "Choose Destination Location" screen, perform one of the
       following:
       * If you want the ACU program files to be installed in the default
         location (ex. C:\Program Files\Atheros), click "Next".
       * If you want to specify a different destination for the ACU program
         files, click "Browse", select a location, and click "Next".
    6) In the "Select Program Folder" screen, specify a program folder name
       for Atheros Client Utility by selecting from the list of existing

        select "I'd like to add Atheros Client Utility to the startup folder".
    9) The client utility installation is complete.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
