INTRODUCTION

The M3147 is a 64-bit high performance Graphics Accelerator. ALI developed
this chip to provide a very cost-effective solution for Window's acceleration
and includes a complete library of operating system and application drivers
to give users compatibility with a diverse variety of software packages. It
is specified at 32-bit Local Bus and 64-bit DRAM video memory width providing
video data transfer twice as fast as most solutions available today. This
device implements all of the basic Windows acceleration functions and advanced
acceleration including bit block transfer and line draw.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Before you formally install M3147 VGA card into your software, you should
run M4x.EXE first, this program writes to your autoexec.bat file to
configure your monitor type. You can use DOS Install utility (Disk 2)
to install M4x.EXE into your harddisk. M4x.EXE has a section
(Mode Test) that helps you find out what your monitor type really is.
Mode Test enables you to know your monitor's maximum capability. Once
the monitor displays cracking colors, it means your monitor is not compa-
tible to the driver. Stable colors signify your monitor is suitable to the
driver and M3147 Card.

Before you install M3147, configure your Windows 3.1 monitor display to
standard VGA mode.

Insert the driver diskette at appropriate drive.

Run the install utility : (Three ways)
    a. At DOS prompt, type "win <drive/path>install"
    b. At Windows' Program Manager, choose Run command,
        then type "<drive/path>install"
    c. At Windows' File Manager, choose the correct drive, double click
        on file "install.exe"

The program will attempt to create a directory or destination for its uti-
lities. It will take up approximately 1.2 MB of free space from your hard
disk. Just click on "Install".

After installation, a group called "Graphics Accelerator" will appear and
icons named "Set Mode", "Mode Test" and "Uninstall" will appear as well.

Executing "Set Mode" will show a window featuring "Resolution", "Colors" and
"Fonts". Adjust to appropriate settings and select "OK". You will be asked
"Restart Windows?". Restarting Windows will feature the mode you have
recently selected. Button "Monitor Type" will allow you to install what
kind of monitor you are currently using. While button "ALI_DPMS" will
enable/disable power saving feature.

The power saving mode is another advanced feature of this card, it allows the
user to set different degrees of power saving. Delay time is from 1 to 99
minutes. The Standby mode saves power by disabling the Hsync. The Suspend
mode saves power by disabling the Vsync. While the Turn-off mode disables
both Hsync and Vsync, thus saves more power than the two mentioned earlier.
All modes will blank out the monitor. Password protection is also featured,
password can be up to 20 characters maximum.

Executing "Mode Test" is the same as the one in M4x.EXE. Press Arrow keys
to change between choices, "Enter" to select, and "Esc" to go back.

You are now ready to use your application software configured to M3147.

Before executing "Uninstall", be sure to configure your Windows 3.1 to
standard VGA mode. "Uninstall" will remove or delete the utility files.

***** NOTE: *****
User can use the default Windows SETUP utility to change the Windows display
mode if user has the problem to boot Windows 3.1.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
M3147v doesn't support the video overlay on the following modes, it
will be played by GDI.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  . all the interlaced modes.

  . mode 800x600xhigh color at 1M DRAM.

  . modes 1600x1200.

  . modes 1280x1024 refresh rate 72Hz and 75Hz.

. when the virtual screen is enabled.

. On some modes such as 640x480xTrue color at 1M DRAM and 800x600xTrue color
at 2M DRAM, the off-screen memory is not enought for the video frame data.
And I use the on-screen video window to store the video data. But if the
video window is resized smaller than one third of the original width
horizontally or half of the original height vertically, the video becomes
GDI played. Besides, these two modes don't support the color key. So if
the video window is overlapped by some other windows, the video becomes
         GDI played.
