III. UPDATE INFORMATION FOR THIS RELEASE::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

   1) Before updating any firmware it is important to verify that you are
not using special code on your device. SPR (Special Product Request)
firmware changes are often not included in official releases and
updating may cause the device to lose this type of special
      functionality.

   2) One of the following methods is required to update the device with
      this release of flash firmware:

      A) The embedded web server can be used to update the firmware:
         1. Enter the IP address of the adapter into the address field in
            your web browser.
         2. Click the 'Settings' tab on the left-hand side of the page.
         3. Select the 'Update Firmware' link.
         4. Enter the filename or use the 'Browse' button to locate the
            updated flash file.
         5. Click the 'Flash' button to begin the flashing process.

      B) The flash file can also be sent down to the adapter via FTP with
a binary transfer. In the following examples the flash file is
         located in the C:\flash\ directory.

   	 Windows XP example:

   	 C:\flash>ftp 157.184.195.162
       	 Connected to 157.184.195.162.
220 ET000400EE9E37 Lexmark FTP Server ready.
   	 User (157.184.195.162:(none)):
   	 230 User default logged in.
   	 ftp> bin
   	 200 TYPE command successful.
   	 ftp> put firmware.fls
   	 200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening BINARY data connection (157.184.195.124,5001).

      C) MarkVision Professional (MVP)

         1. On the main MVP screen you will see a list of IP addresses
associated to the printers MVP is monitoring. Select the address
(or addresses) of print servers that you would like to update
         2. From the "Actions" drop down menu select "Firmware Download
(Print Server)" task OR From the MarkVision Professional Home
screen, select the Firmware Download (Print Server) task from
            the All Tasks list.
         3. Click New File to add new files to the MVP list of downloadable
firmware files (for example, files that you have downloaded).
         4. Click Start to begin the upgrade process.

** WARNING—POTENTIAL DAMAGE: The print server may be damaged if it
is turned off or reset during a firmware flash. Use the Scheduling
task to perform flash operations at night, on holidays, or at other
times when printer traffic is very light.**

   3) If the device does not appear to be updated correctly please try the
following before contacting the Lexmark Technical Support Center for
      assistance:

      1. Verify that the firmware revisions are not updated by printing out
the menu settings pages and comparing them to the revisions in this
         document.

      2. Verify that the firmware package you are trying to use is correct
for the device you are trying to update. (i.e. One would use the
T654 package to update a T654 printer, etc.)

      3. Power off the device and back on and then try to update the device
         again.
