Network Drivers Installation Notes


WINDOWS NT AND MICROSOFT WINDOWS NETWORKING


This document describes how to configure the 3C575-TX PC Card for
use with Windows NT v3.51 and v4.0 (Server or Workstation) and 
Microsoft Windows Networks. 

If you have Windows NT v3.50 or earlier, you will need to
upgrade your system to v3.51 or later. Versions prior to 
Windows NT v3.51 do not have PC Card support, and therefore
do not support the 3C575-TX PC Card.

Before installing the network driver, you should know the
following:

      -Transport used in the Microsoft Windows Network
      -Name of the NT Server domain or Windows 95/WFW 3.11
       Workgroup to which you belong.
       -IP Address

Also, for a successful installation, you will need:

      - Windows NT system installation files (either on
        hard disk, floppy diskettes, or CD)
      - 3C575-TX PC Card and the accompanying EtherDisk

Windows NT
This section describes how to install the NDIS 
network driver when your PC is running Windows NT. 
The driver name is ELPC575.SYS. 

Windows NT Version 4.0
To install the driver on a PC running 
Windows NT version 4.0, perform the following steps:

1. Install the 3C575-TX PC Card and connect it to 
     the network as described in Chapter 2.

2. Reboot your PC.

3. Boot Windows NT 4.0.

4. Using the Control Panel, double-click Network.

5. Select the Adapters tab and click Add.

6. Select Have Disk.

7. In the Insert Disk Dialog box, enter a:

8. Insert the EtherDisk diskette in the floppy drive, and click OK.

9. From the Select OEM Option screen, 
    highlight 3Com Fast EtherLink XL CardBus PC Card and click OK.

    The 3C575-TX PC Card files are copied to your PC. 
    The 3Com 3C575-Fast EtherLink XL CardBus PC 
    Card Setup screen appears.

10. Click OK to save.

11. Click Close.
      If prompted, enter your IP address and click OK.
      The 3C575-TX PC Card and its driver have now 
      been successfully installed in NT 4.0. 

12. Click Yes to reboot your PC.
      The network driver installation is complete.
      To confirm successful installation, double-click 
      the Network icon in the Control Panel. 
      The 3Com 3C575-Fast EtherLink XL CardBus PC Card 
      appears on the list.

Windows NT Version 3.51
      To install the driver on a PC running Windows 
      NT version 3.51, follow these steps:

1. Insert the 3C575-TX PC Card and connect 
    it to the network as described in Chapter 2.

2. Reboot the PC.

3. In the Main group, select Control Panel.

4. On the Control panel, double-click Network. 

5. If you have networking already installed, click 
    Add Adapter. 

6. If you do not have networking 
    installed, follow the prompts to install Windows NT networking.

7. The Add Network Adapter window appears.

8. On the Add Network Adapter window, choose
    <Other> Requires disk from manufacturer from the list.

9. Click the Continue button.

10. Insert the EtherDisk diskette into in the floppy drive and type:
      a:\ [Enter]

11. Click OK.

12. In the Select OEM Option window, click OK.

13. Choose the 3Com Fast EtherLink XL CardBus PC Card from the 
      list and click OK.
      The Fast EtherLink XL CardBus PC Card dialog box appears.

14. Click OK to accept the default settings for the 3C575-TX PC Card 
      or enter new settings if requested by your MIS department.

      The Windows NT Setup Window appears.

15. Select the transport protocol you identified before you began installation.
      If the TCP/IP configuration window appears, enter the IP address.

16. Click OK.
      If no networking has been installed, follow the prompts to complete 
      networking installation. 

17. Remove the EtherDisk diskette and click Restart Now.
      If you have a docking station, make sure there are no resource conflicts.
      The network driver installation is complete. 

      To confirm successful installation, use the File Manager to browse the network.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
