This document contains general information, which is not included in the
DFE-660 Fast Ethernet PC Card USER'S GUIDE or onscreen instructions, for
DOS users regarding DFE-660 Fast Ethernet PC Card installation.

DOS environment users, including users of Windows 3.1/3.11
please read this document.

1.0 Hot-Swap
------------
    The ODI DOS driver ,NDIS DOS driver, and Windows 95 driver support an
    On-Line Hot-Swap function.

2.0 Installation Aids
----------------------

   2.1. If your computer's CONFIG.SYS file has the EMM386.EXE command line,
        please make sure the memory range D000-D7FF is excluded.
        Because the Card Services need this range to allocate resources for
        the adapter.

                   *** Example command line ***
            -------------------------------------------
            DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=D000-D7FF

   2.2. For the PC that does not have the Card Services.
        The DFE-660 works with the TI PCI-1130/1131 and Cirrus CL-PD6832
        controller. For other controllers, please call your PC dealer to
        find the Card Services package.

   2.3. CBCLT.EXE
        CBCLT.EXE is an integrated version of utility to enable an adapter.
        CBCLT.EXE supports TI 1130/1131 and Cirrus CL-PD6832 only.

        You could issue CBCLT command at the DOS command prompt.

                Format:
                CBCLT  /parameter:

                      /irq:h          (Default:11)        -- IRQ number
                      /iop:hhhh       (Default:E000)      -- I/O base

   2.4. NET.CFG
        When running Novell ODI driver, if driver has been installed
        successfully, but can't connect to Novell server. The IRQ or
        I/O PORT may conflict with other devices. You may change the
        setting and re-load the driver.
        The keywords for NET.CFG may refer to \NETWARE\README.TXT.

3.0 Terminology
---------------

   3.1. SystemSoft Card Services
        SystemSoft is a company that develops PC Card chipset drivers.
        The package is called CardSoft, CardWizard, and CardWizard Pro.

   3.2. Pheonix Card Services
        Pheonix is a company that develops PC Card chipset drivers.
        The package is call PCM+ 2.0 or PCM+ 3.0, etc.

   3.3. Award Card Services
        Award is a company that develops PC Card chipset drivers.
        The package is call Cardware.

   3.4. AMI Card Services
        AMI is a company that develops PC Card chipset drivers. The
        package is call CardManager.

   3.5. DataBook Card Services
        Databook develops PC Card chipset drivers. The package is called
        Cardtalk.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
